2015 Indie Excellence Award Finalist! Athena Wallace has spent the first thirty years of her life desperately trying to be perfect. But as her sassy, unfiltered best friend, Nadine, points out, "being perfect ain't got shit to do with being happy." With this reality weighing heavily on her, Athena takes on a new assignment at the magazine where she works as a columnist doing an exposé on how six strangers seek happiness through the exotic venues of Manhattan nightlife. Side by side with an eclectic cast of characters - including a millionaire attorney who moonlights as a drag queen and a motorcycle-riding grandma with a 'fuck-it' list - Athena embarks on a soulful, and often satirical, journey to find her happiness. As she discovers, sometimes you have to look outside of yourself in order to become the person you are meant to be.

Review "It's the transition from a life where 'every day brings nothing but the usual' to a more purposeful world that engrosses both Athena and the reader following in her footsteps as chapters explore her expensive tastes and her search for something different. In the course of such a venture, characterization isn't just important; it's a key to success - and Flawed Happiness provides an intersection of personalities that are vivid, believable, and compelling in their uniqueness."- D. Donovan, Senior eBook Reviewer, Midwest Book Review"Flawed Happiness has everything a reader requires when looking for a good book to fall into. The characters were relatable, down to earth and funny... With summer around the corner, this without a doubt is a book that should be in your beach bag or in your carry on bag for your flight." - Mommy R+R, NYC-based blog"Regardless of ethnicity or cultural persuasion, this is a novel with a universal message that causes one to pause for thought and deep, personal reflection." - June J. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Better than expected By Robyn DeGaetano Let me give full disclosure here – I did not think that I was going to enjoy this book very much. When I read the premise of the story, I found myself rolling my eyes a little and thinking “Oh goodness, another book about a spoiled 30-something who needs to find herself through the experience of others – yawn. Isn’t this why we have Grey’s Anatomy?” But I told myself that I would read the book with an open mind, and I did, and I ended up really enjoying it, despite myself. Although I didn’t necessarily care for the profanity sprinkled throughout, I do understand that when an author sees a character in a certain way – whether it’s their looks, style of dress, social mannerisms or patterns of speech – it’s harder to portray them in any other way. And this is obviously how the author sees some of these characters (more specifically, Athena, Nadine, and Olivia) – a little rough around the edges. However, that is not the only side that we see of any of these characters. I think that the author did a good job of not making any one character too one-dimensional. By the end of the book, they seemed like real people to me, and I found myself really liking every one of them (with the exception of the characters that you weren’t supposed to like). I wanted to have dinner with Athena’s parents. I wanted to see the drag show with Francey. I could see in my mind the look on Olivia’s face when she saw herself in that dress, and wished that I could have actually seen it in person. I could totally imagine Marks’ sassiness, and wished that I worked with him. And Nadine? Crazy and potty-mouthed as that girl was, she was a crackup.I think that my favorite characters would have to be Mark and Olivia, although the scene where Vince sings to Theresa is too adorable for words, too. I love the author’s descriptions in this book – over and over again I found myself feeling like I could actually see perfectly in my head what was going on. When Athena was in her apartment, I was in her apartment (or at least I wanted to be, haha – that place sounded amazing!). When she was describing each of the places that she went, I felt like I could see them in my head, too. I also felt like I could relate to her in a lot of ways, just girl to girl, y’know? When she has the inner-monologue going in her head and then does things like tell herself to chill out or shut up. Yeah, totally done that. By the end of the book, she felt like an old girlfriend of mine. When she describes that scene with her Taj and Anthony in the cab after she finds out he has a girlfriend and she goes from feeling so attracted to him to so annoyed – little things like that made her seem so real and relatable to me. And I loved that although she was definitely very much into on-the-surface things like hair, makeup and clothes, she was not a shallow person. As you get to know Athena, you see that she is actually very sensitive and caring toward others. She is no saint, and she has people that get on her nerves as much as the next person, but that, too, is what makes her real. A character who’s got sass AND sensitivity – that’s my kind of protagonist. Although I originally thought that this book was going to be only ankle-deep, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I definitely had some “aha!” moments while reading it (especially the last page – beautifully written!). It definitely made me take a look at my own life a little more closely and try to see it a bit differently. And any book that makes you think and reflect about your own life, well I think that’s always a good thing.

Someone who has followed the rules, is successful by most conventional standards, yet feels something is lacking. Athena is searching for her meaning. It is an exploration worth following. The 30-year-old magazine journalist interviews a diverse array of characters for a series of articles about how “real” New Yorkers spend their Saturday nights out. Over the course of the six weeks it takes to complete the project, Athena learns to trust and follow her own instincts. The story opens with a comfortably deliberate pace and gives us a good sense of the protagonist’s dilemma. We meet two of Athena’s best friends who stay with us throughout the story and provide diverse perspectives for her to consider. As the weeks unfold and we get into the meat of the journey things pick up considerably. The cast of characters we encounter are interesting, their stories intriguing. In her impressive debut novel, Cori Tadrus adeptly portrays Athena with honesty, self-deprecation, and humor; enticing the reader pull for her as she navigates through the clutter. Athena, though somewhat flawed and perhaps a bit naïve, perseveres. There is no denying her strength and commitment to finding her meaning.

Flawed Happiness is refreshing and entertaining, simple yet complex. A look into the life of Athena Wallace as she looks to the lives of several other New Yorkers while on assignment for a nightlife magazine, we are all along for the ride on a lovely tale of assessing one's self and a pursuit of happiness.Athena's character is very well developed, very real. Her insecurities, her beauty, her sass and humor, the fact that she is HUMAN shines through. The dialogue and attention to detail is impeccable. There are a wide range of characters and it would be easy for some of them to fall flat but author, Cori Tadrus' ability to read and glean from various social interactions, cultures and pure human nature is apparent! Prepare to laugh out loud, gasp, shed a tear or two...maybe not read this book in public if that sort of thing would be embarrassing to you. ;-)I could see Flawed Happiness made into a film...and it would be a good one! This is a fantastic debut novel and I am excited to see what's down the road!

I was thoroughly surprised by the variety and depth of the characters as well as their very real situations. I was only vaguely aware of the Shetland Bus, but Moffa's other hidden secrets really warmed things up. This book was so smooth and engrossing that I kept coming back to it once I started. I finished it before going to sleep that night. That is a very rare thing for me. I'll be looking for more of Frankie Valente's work.

This book will be useful for many clergypersons By Anne Broyles Farris offers short meditations on the life of a minister, sharing anecdotes from her own career as a United Methodist clergywoman. This book would be invaluable both for the minister just starting out on a professional journey, or as encouragement to those already living as a church professional. Farris writes in a conversational style, shares both the highs and lows of a successful career, and includes scripture, literature and hymnody for inspiration. This book will be useful for many clergypersons, whether they choose to use it as daily meditations, advice, or strength for their journeys.

By Rorick I wasn't sure about getting this book because it is so expensive, but I really like it. This drawings are very detailed and are coordinated with the CPT codes. It should prove helpful in my coding career.

If you're learning anatomy for the first time, this may be helpful, otherwise, forget it By Cassandra Eyton If you're looking for something to help you figure out the differences between the many, many cardiac or nervous system procedures, for example, this book is worthless to you. The CPT manual itself has just as much information, minus the detail of the anatomy drawings, which you can get in any entry level anatomy book. I need something that actually explains what the various CPT codes mean, since distinguishes between the various cardiac or spinal surgeries is extremely difficult. I'm looking for something that will help me decipher the surgical report I'm reading, so I can bill correctly. The title of the book, Surgical Anatomy for CPT coding, sounds like it would actually described the surgical procedures and how to apply knowledge of anatomy, but it's more like drawings of anatomy, followed by a list of codes, most without any explanation at all. There are some guidelines, but there are more guidelines in the actual CPT manual itself. If anyone reading this has any suggestions, I would love them.

Fun and easy to read, The Box uses the lively discussions of two neighbors to simplify powerful apologetic principles and refute the myth that unbelief stands on science and reason while the Christian worldview rests on blind faith. You'll see why the biblical miracles are logical and reasonable, why unbelievers cannot possibly know they did not happen, and why it is impossible for atheists to know that God does not exist. The Box explains why all arguments rest on assumptions of faith, and why unbelieving assumptions by which they argue against the God of Scripture are unscientific and unreasonable blind faith.  How can Mr. A know God does not exist when he doesn't know the contents of Mr. C's garage?

Review "EDITOR'S CHOICE"  -- Christian Review Magazine

From the Back Cover "This is a great book to share with a non-Christian inquirer. Written as a dialogue between a Christian and an atheist, it is enjoyable to read, and its presuppositional argument for the truth of Christianity is cogent. I hope it gets a broad circulation."  --John M. Frame, J. D. Trimble Professor of Theology and Philosophy, Reformed Theological Seminary"This is a wonderful help. Its reasoning is tight, but it is 'popular' enough to be helpful for virtually anyone. Really a nice work." --Fred Zaspel, Author of The Theology of B. B. Warfield"A solid defense of biblical Christianity against the claims of atheism and a practical and orthodox response to the challenges of the vocal advocates of unbelief in our times."--William Edgar, Professor of Apologetics, Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia"Atheists and their less dogmatic cousins, agnostics, are making a comeback today, at least in Europe and North America. In some places, moreover, they are given the moral high ground and assumed to be chic. But as Craig Biehl has shown, they are undermining any and all standards of morality, and even rationality. Now more than ever, Christians need to understand this and encourage one another to stay fixed upon Christ. Read this book and rest assured that, in the words of the old hymn, all other ground is sinking sand." --Douglas A. Sweeney, Professor of Church History and the History of Christian Thought, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School "Biehl's book is impressive. The dialogue is a helpful and interesting approach that makes apologetics more accessible. There is so much to which I could point that I consider to be good and even striking that I think it would be pedantic to list them all."  --David McWilliams, Senior Minister, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Lakeland, FL"Craig Biehl is a scholar, but one who speaks in plain language in defense of the authority and reliability of the Bible and its teachings. The Box debunks denials of biblical truth by exposing the flawed assumptions which underlie them, boosting our trust of Scripture and providing us with useful tools to defend our faith against scholarly attacks."  --Bob Deffinbaugh, Ministry Coordinator, Bible.org."A marvelous book. I am delighted by the thought of college students reading this as they tread through the deep waters of unbelief on the college campus. Craig does a wonderful job of boiling down unbelief and of demonstrating the commonality between atheism and agnosticism and the fact that all believers can and should interact well with unbelief. I am grateful for this labor of love for Christ's church." --Dustyn Eudaly, Associate Minister, Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, Orlando, FL

About the Author Craig received his A.B. degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Westminster Theological Seminary. Craig teaches and writes on various theological topics, including apologetics, worldview, the theology of Jonathan Edwards, the excellence of Christ, and others. He lives with his wife Angelica in Pennsylvania where they are involved in various ministries and most happy to be redeemed in Christ.

By Anywhere Evangelism The Box will let you know what you need to know if you do not believe that the God Who created this universe and everything in it is very much alive and in control of everything going on in the universe this very moment. In the Book of Collosians chapter 1.17 He holds all things together. What this means is that The God Who created this Universe created all matter and thus He holds all electrons, neutrons and protons together.A day in time, in space is coming when he will release all matter and new heavens and earth will be created by Him with Whom the human race must answer to Hebrews 4.13. The only hope for humanity is His Son Jesus Christ Who came to earth to save the world John 3.16-21.But only those who truly believe that He gave Himself for sinners who need a Savior. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life...John 14.6. If you are a sinner, he died for you but you must come to Him with an earnest fervent heart. Seek Him while there is time remaining.

Frank Fendler The readability and literary style of The Box will have wide appeal both here and abroad at every level of the academy. For those of us rank and file believers who need to be equipped, it gives voice not only to the hope that lies within us, but an understanding of how to graciously debunk the hollow arguments underlying the world views of many in our culture today, for the sake of their redemption.

Up to 30% of not one but two entire generations of Americans have chosen to live a life free from religion. The Nones Are Alright investigates how and why the exodus from organized religion is occurring, by telling the personal stories of members of the generation born in the 60s and 70s, when their Boomer parents severed their own ties with organized religion, and the stories of those born in the 80s and 90s, when Fundamentalism was on the rise. By delving into profiles of individuals, it contrasts the stories of "nones," atheists and agnostics with the stories of those who took an opposite track: who defied the trend and found religion as adults, or who experienced a startling conversion from the religion of their childhood to a completely new set of beliefs, and those who've remained in the religion of their childhood, but have re-imagined and redefined what it means to be religious today.

The Nones Are Alright, by Kaya Oakes

Review "Kaya Oakes has written the Growing Up Absurd for 21st century religion -- honest, inconvenient for the status quo, yet hopeful. The Nones Are Alright is an essential primer on the challenge religion faces today and a case for why that challenge is so worth meeting." Nathan Schneider, author, God in Proof"This beautifully written book describes many examples of the 'nones' -- those who say they have no religious affiliations -- and their aspirations and conflicts around faith." Tanya Marie Lurhman, author, When God Talks Back"This book proves once again that Kaya Oakes isn't afraid of honest conversation or tough questions. Through her interviews and reflections, she reminds readers that the spiritual life can involve both wonder and wandering and that growing in faith sometimes feels a lot like doubt." Kerry Weber, managing editor, America and author, Mercy in the CityIn The Nones are Alright accomplished journalist, writer, and Catholic revert/None/agnostic Kaya Oakes leans close to listen to doubters, reverts, agnostics -- all the people slipping through the cracks in the institutional walls --as these people tell stories of their efforts to build communities of faith, of living in-between traditions, and of the long struggle to articulate (and perhaps believe in) the mystery called God. What she hears both comforts and inspires, disturbs and challenges. But, as Pope Francis said in Tel Aviv, 'the walls which divide us can be broken down only if we are prepared to listen and learn from one another.' This is what Oakes herself has, quite provocatively, done. --Patrick Gilger, SJ

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Don't worry about the nones, read the book, they're alright! By Fran Rossi Szpylczyn My day job as parish secretary brings me into contact with numerous people, often seeking sacraments; one of the most frequent being infant baptism. A young mom or dad reaches out, sometimes tentatively, to inquire about how to proceed. More often than not, they are not regular church-goers, sometimes they were married at the parish, or simply grew up there. It is a joy to encounter them and help them in whatever way I can. If they follow through, it becomes my job to collect information so that the great welcome of the new child can begin. That’s when it might get sticky, when I get to godparent(s) requirements. According to Canon Law (Can. 874 §1.3) godparents, or sponsors must: be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on; read more here.) This is when I am like to hear that the godparent(s) are “Catholic, but they don’t actually go to a church!”This scenario is one of many that ran through my head as I read “The Nones are Alright, A New Generation of Believers, Seekers, and Those in Between,” by Kaya Oakes, (209 pp., Orbis Books, $22.00) So many elements of this book hit upon the very thing I encounter on a regular basis. In fact, I may have to print these sentences from page 97, and post them next to my desk… “They are still Catholic, but in many ways they are Catholic Nones. They wear their Catholicism loosely, or, in some cases, it follows them through life like a ghost.”Reading this book reminded me of a “None” I once knew – me. Like author Oakes, I too once occupied “none-space,” although in very dissimilar ways. We both, however differently, had the experience of seeking, and returning to the church. The book follows the trail of observations and experiences as she investigates the “Nones.” For example, as an instructor at the University of California Berkley, Oakes found a clear vantage point into the experiences of numerous nones. Astutely observing what younger generations – and others – are up to in the world of faith journeys, she transforms what she explores into a deeply interesting and thought provoking book. This work goes beyond the Catholics, and into the world of a generation not oriented towards particular faiths and denominations. This volume reads easily and quickly. I found myself turning pages and wondering what was coming, identifying very much with some of the people, and not so much with others. With each chapter I read about people who were familiar and many who were not. In a little over 200 plus pages, much ground is comprehensively covered. To my way of seeing, all the stories were all intriguing. Due to the use of conversational and accessible language, Oakes creates a book is not just a writer’s observations, but also an independent study into a very important phenomenon of our time.So yes, the book is easy to read and personal – yes. However, as you read, you will also find many diverse footnotes and sources. This adds a nice heft and gravitas that I appreciated. Research and preparation matters, and in this case was well done. There are some of the “nones” who are fine where they are, others still have that longing for the church of their heart, whether or not that church ever really existed. For any of us who have wandered out of the pasture, the landscapes may appear as familiar territory. Familiar but not to be ignored, because you may think you know where the story is going. And if you think that connecting with the “Nones” is about one church being more more modern, more open and affirming, or more welcoming than another, prepare to be surprised. This book should be required reading for anyone who works in any ministry of welcome, catechesis, or initiation. Others who would benefit from it would be those who cannot understand why there “Nones” in the first place. That might include pastors, clerics, or bishops of any denomination, or those who who consider themselves evangelizers. If you ask the question about who are these seekers and why are they not in our/your flock? Another audience would be church book groups, I think this would be a great idea for those who gather to read and discuss in an ecclesial setting. But please – do not read it as a way to capture those you perceive to be the lost sheep, but instead as invitation to understand what led them out of the fold – if they were ever in it – in the first place. A journey through this $22.00 volume could be a better investment than a purchase of the next “bring them back to church” program pitched to you by a consultant. That program may have value, but perhaps reading “Nones” first, might be a more fruitful start. How does the story end? This is a story of seeking, does it ever end? All I can say is this – read the book. (A review from my blog, There Will Be Bread)

Her compassion and forgiveness for a broken and dysfunctional church gives all of us hope. Kaya is able to embrace the universal quest we all have to be close to one another by including all people in all religions or none at all as we widen our consciousness, grasping for a more complete church. This book gives a voice to an entire generation of seekers while remaining grounded in Catholic universalism. The author does not hesitate to take on the hierarchical structure of the church while simultaneously exuding unbounding mercy for its many faults. It is a courageous and uplifting book which calls out to the next generation inviting them in.

My book--I PRAY ANYWAY:Devotions for the Ambivalent has led me to studying the 'nones'--thenon-religiously affiliated. Oakes does a good journalistic job of bringing the various nuances of the 'none' to life and to light. And she writes well--a bonus. She is Catholic (in-out-in sort of) but has a very broad lens. I read it in two sittings which, given the title, is not what I expected. Left me hopeful about this growing group of people who will become a force for good-------I think.

The belief is cascaded down from thousands of years ago. Specific series of behaviors and practices called Rituals and the law of attraction is best described in the book. I found interest in the chapter wiccan practice. This is really an interesting book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great book of learning Wicca. By Brie Williams Wicca is another first for me. I never knew anything about this before, although I’ve heard about witchcraft and magic spells but nothing as detailed as this. Alright, it is a form of religious witchcraft and I appreciate it greatly. I was skeptical about this belief before but this book is too good to make me learn and understand about its nature or religion. The book covers the origins and the history of the Wicca, the different traditions, practices and rituals. Wiccans believe that magic is a law of nature and is in no way supernatural. That is worth contemplating and I guess I am already at the point of agreeing with it. This is a good read and a worthwhile knowledge worth sharing.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Worth the price! By Amazon Customer This book is thorough! It covers everything about wicca and its practices, its believe systems and traditions, its origins, amazing history and how it evolves through time. The most interesting part of this book is learning the rituals and the spells with clear instructions on proper executing.

If you did not know that there are consequences for your sins, 7 Days and 7 Nights will reveal to you that there are serious consequences. At the same time is shows you that if we repent and surrender to God we can have a fresh start. Abraham was so prideful that I wanted to scream at him and this man was actually arguing with an angel. I can't tell you more than that, but to simply say when your sins come calling it can be very scary and they just may destroy you.

I never had words or categories for the socially graceful, and those less so, but this book broke it down in easy-to-grasp terms. The beauty of this text is how it explicitly states (then explains) so many "unwritten rules" of school, or the office.I wish I had read this book back when I worked with children and young adults a lot. The book is a useful and scientific tool to understand and hopefully to help young people who are finding their place in the world.Reading Popularity Explained also changed the way I monitored my own actions. When I knew the reason why I applied "Input of Energy" into any given interaction, it became obvious what my behaviour was reflecting. The theory permeates so many behaviours in daily life. There are insights beyond grade school popularity here.If you enjoy social psychology and have dabbled even lightly in any Western literature/film/TV set in grade school, this is the book for you. I would especially recommend this book to educators. The text is very readable, and the anecdotes reveal a reflective and humorous author.

Obviously the right answer when t comes to boy/girl relations and vice versa By begood2go There are a lot of books about popularity available but this one explains the why.Found this book after coming across a comment posted by Leona Dore on the book, "How to Be Popular: Everything You Need to Know and More." Agree with her. Unlike any other book on the subject this one does more than just rehash the same advice found everywhere else on the internet. The book is obviously well researched but sometimes it's a bit too "boy meets girl" oriented. Would have liked to read whether or not the same things apply to the LGBT community. Hopefully a future edition will address this question with research. The explanation is sound, everything makes sense, and the writing is good but it's a little to hetero-normative. 4 out of 5

Johnson Dear Abby will sell you a short pamphlet called "How to Be Popular," but a better title for that pamphlet is "How to Be Likeable" or "How to Be Someone Others Enjoy Spending Time With." It's great, timeless advice, but she essentially misunderstands what popularity really is to kids in grade school.Freedman gets it, though. This book is not a how-to guide, and it explicitly warns that popularity can't be achieved by everyone. It's an exploration of what popularity is and how we might help the kids in our care to navigate that world a little less painfully. In his book, Freedman wastes no time and presents his main points in a simple diagram at the beginning of the book: grade school students can be categorized as popular or not, and liked or not, and disliked or not, with archetypes arising at certain intersections of those attributes, such as "the sidekick" and "wannabes." The 3-dimensional organization of the diagram gives the reader a moment of head-scratching--why is likeability on two different axes?--but it becomes clear that some kids are liked by many AND disliked by many, an interesting idea that sets the tone for the book. And throughout, Freedman is trying to discover (and make sense of) how popular kids get popular and why the rest of the students put up with it.In the introduction, Freedman is honest about his relative lack of authority as a social psychologist. We are not reading a well-funded seminal work of peer-reviewed literature from a team of Ph.D.'s, and Freedman never pretends that this is the case. He is a student and tells us so. Yes, he should have done a true literature review on this topic rather than skimming the Internet to see if anyone else has tried to "formulate a unified and comprehensive explanation of popularity" (because they have) but the freshness with which he approaches the topic is valuable. And yes, there are signs that Freedman overestimates his authority and the impact and originality of his ideas: "Armed with superior maturity and wisdom, [parents and educators who read this book] are uniquely positioned to help guide dissatisfied students through the requisite processes of planning, action, and reflection required to make substantive changes [regarding popularity.]"But we can see Freedman's passion for the topic shining through all the naivety. And thankfully, Freedman does begin to draw from the social psychology literature, starting with Chapter 1, though not nearly enough; he relies too often on examples from movies and young adult novels and doesn't make an argument for why these examples should be accepted as accurate representations of reality.Throughout the main chapters, though, Freedman presents quite a few interesting observations and suggestions about the nature of popularity and how a less popular grade school kid might apply certain strategies to improve her situation. The idea of groups as attractive in and of themselves, the idea that attractiveness is multidimensional, the idea that attractiveness and physical beauty aren't necessarily the same thing, the idea of popularity causing conversational gravity, the notion of learning a clique's culture as a way into it—all these present food for thought. Some of the original concepts, like the idea of input of energy, need refinement and better support. The best of these ideas could be distilled into a list or a short blog post and be better disseminated to parents and teachers interested in helping kids handle popularity issues. But the exploration and discovery of the ideas make this book what it is. And Chapter 12 presents an interesting reflection on how the author would have applied his understanding of popularity had he only known in school what he knows now; this is interesting reading and potentially valuable for parents and teachers. There's an important idea that Freedman never touches on, however, and it may be the only serious flaw in the book. That is, perceptions of popularity get filtered through an individual's biases and memories, and we can't necessarily trust our own interpretations, observations, and memories as if they were hard data. There's no acknowledgement of the attentional bias, for example, and yet it pervades Freedman's experience and his act of writing about it.Freedman's writing is generally clear and easy to follow. The editor has done solid work here and there's little of the awkward syntax or pervasive errors that we see in most other ebooks. With more ruthless editing to remove repetition, overexplaining, and wandering passages, the book could be more concise, and passages that read like a college admissions essay could be deleted or improved. In general, if Freedman's writing were to improve, we'd see more purposeful connections among paragraphs. As readers we shouldn't have to get three sentences deep into a paragraph still wondering where the writer is going or why he's bringing up the new topic at all. But that concludes this English teacher’s nit-pickings.Do check out this book if you need advice or a fresh perspective to help the kids in your life experience less of that very real pain of unpopularity.
