NURSES IN LOVE By Becky Eastwood The ups and downs, and tumultuous story of three good friends who share a house to make ends meet and work as dedicated nurses in a big NYC hospital. Their house on idyllic City Island is an oasis for them until their problems even threaten their peaceful existence there. Grace, a quietly, classic beauty who never wears make-up, is the hardest working nurse in the hospital, drowns her sorrows in her job. Cherry, a sexpot Southern blonde looking for a Park Avenue doctor to marry, is betrayed by the supposed "golden boy" soon to be named head resident of the department, and Joanne, a bitingly funny sexy Italian who is a Cher-look-alike (from twenty years ago), is addicted to her soon to be ex-husband as much as he is addicted to the pain killers he begs her to steal for him. The characters are so vivid; we'd recognize them walking down the street. Their jobs, their beautiful house, their friendships are challenged in ways that test whether or not they will be victorious or be destroyed. The first book to be set in the world of nurses and it gives an insightful and detailed portrayal of the work these angels of mercy perform day after day - they are the unsung heroes who save so many lives and actually make the hospital work but are never given credit for it. It is engaging and light with scenes that conjure salty island air and sunshine. The characters are likable and fun. Although the subject matter is at times serious, Zoe Hardwicke injects subtle bits of humor throughout the story. As a nurse, it is refreshing to read a novel in which nurses are portrayed as intelligent and emotionally complex humans. Glaring technical mistakes in a couple of the hospital scenes and rampant fictional HIPPA violations aside, it was easy to recognize the characteristics of a busy metropolitan hospital, its cast of colleagues, and the complicated relationships which develop in a demanding, stressful, and often insular environment. Pick up this novel immediately and go find a comfy beach chair.

The story of William and Emmy (or more affectionately, Red and Oz) is one of life's roller coaster though love, loss, and finding that one person that is just meant to be. It's funny, sad and romantic through the big moments in life but also the little every day moments. The story twists and turns in believable, very real ways but never fails to hit you in the heart. The characters are developed and realistic. Each has their own distinct voice and the dialogue is pitch perfect.If you are looking for a realistic, modern romance, Red will not disappoint.

Typical story with very little or no suspense By Amazon Customer A love story with a twist so different, it will take some time to wrap the concept around the head. The characters Emmy and William meet during a vacation where Emmy had gone to Edinburgh. It was love at first sight for them and they promised to keep in touch over the years till they unite again. However, very soon the contact reduces to none and the relationship becomes a thing of the past. Then Emmy gets a chance to go back to London to work and William comes back in picture. The story then takes us on their relationship ride by filling the gaps and facing their challenges with them.The story is a bit childish and immature. The situation where the lovers meet and what happens hence is not something that should ideally happen. However there is no denying that such people do exist and such situations can be believable with a stretch of an imagination. The flow of the story is predictable and typecast. Right in the middle of the story, most of the suspense gets revealed, which makes the further story too much typical.The language is a bit on the repetitive side. Certain phrases does so much rounds in the book that it becomes predictive. The characters are given good depth, which gives some base to the story. Only for the characters can you manage to continue reading the book. Otherwise there is nothing exciting or fascinating about the entire concept.

It finds love, loses it and finds it again. It has a load of twists. Each time you feel you know where it is going something else pops up. The story deals with many different aspets of life.William aka Red and Emily aka Oz meet over a weekend in Scotland. It appears too be a meeting of soulmates. Place a return for Emily and add a couple of years.The characters are extremely believable and we should all be able to compare each of them to someone we know or know about.This debut novel has been one of the most enjoyable reads and I look forward to reading more of Belinda's work. It is my hope that we will see a sequel to this story and be able to follow Red and Oz into the next era of their lives.The humor is such an added plus.This is a five star novel and should be on the Want to Read List of every Romance reader.

Folgt Andi, ihrer Schwester Angel, und Freundin Gemma, wie sie sich von ihrem Pech verfolgtem Leben in London für den Sommer verabschieden und das große Glück in Cornwall suchen, nämlich dem Spielplatz der Reichen. Ich habe die drei Freundinnen von Anfang an gleich fest ins Herz geschlossen und mit ihnen mit gebangt, getrauert, und gefeiert. Diese Geschichte erinnert mich an Ann Brashares "Eine für Vier" wo Freundschaft über alles zählt und die unerwartete Liebe auch sämtliche Überraschungen mit sich bringt. In How and Why Thoughts Change, Dr. Ian Evans deconstructs the nature of cognitive therapy by examining the cognitive element of CBT, that is, how and why thoughts change behavior and emotion. There are a number of different approaches to cognitive therapy, including the classic Beck approach, the late Albert Ellis's rational-emotive psychotherapy, Young's schema-focused therapy, and newer varieties such as mindfulness training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and problem-solving strategies. Evans identifies the common principles underlying these methods, attempts to integrate them, and makes suggestions as to how our current cognitive therapies might be improved. He draws on a broad survey of contemporary research on basic cognitive processes and integrates these with therapeutic approaches. About the Author Ian Evans completed his PhD in experimental and clinical psychology in 1970 at the Institute of Psychiatry, London University, under the supervision of Hans J. Eysenck. His first academic position was at the University of Hawaii, before moving to the State University of New York at Binghamton where he was director of clinical training for 12 years. He then moved to New Zealand and directed a clinical program as well as later being Head of School of Psychology at Massey University. His research interests include positive approaches to challenging behavior in children with severe disabilities, the emotional development of children at home and at school, and the theory, practice, and ethics of culturally informed cognitive-behavior therapy.

Thus By Jeffrey M Lohr The stated purpose of the book is to examine the conceptual underpinnings of cognitive therapy through the explanation contemporary advances within contemporary cognitive psychology. Such issues are examined with the hope that by analyzing how thoughts and their functions are modified, the therapist will be able to help change them for the client’s benefit rather than conforming to particular set of beliefs possessed by the cognitive (or any other) therapist. The author is the right person to do so for several reasons. First, he is a world-class scholar, second he has been party to the development of such techniques, procedures, and strategies, and third, he does not have a proprietary interest, or allegiance to specific treatments. The most appealing feature of the book is Evans’ analysis and synthesis of the myriad “cognitive” techniques, procedures, and strategies. Such an analysis has, heretofore, not been accomplished and it is high time somebody (who does not have a proprietary ax to grind) has done so. The analytic methodology is qualitative in nature and appropriately so. The author has sparingly used central references so as to allow the analytic narrative to flow nicely. Thus, the book is an enjoyable read through otherwise difficult material. A related issue it the nature of the intended audience: psychotherapy researchers, practitioners, and trainees. However, it may be most appropriate for practicing clinicians who are not trained in clinical science. Social workers, counselors, and psychiatrists who have not had extensive exposure to cognitive-behavioral analysis may find it a good primer. It could be appropriate for an upper division course for psychology majors and perhaps as an auxiliary text for an introduction to clinical science. Potential readers might also wish to avail themselves of the author’s previous book, How and why people change: Foundations of psychological therapy. Teysko Queen Takes King is a lovely "coming into your own" story about a woman who's had enough of fitting into a mold, and decides to finally step out on her own and divorce her philandering husband. It's also about the husband, who's narcissistic and in love with a national news anchor. And that news anchor, who wants more than to be a bauble on his arm. And the daughter of the philanderer and his wife, who's not sure what to do given her life of privilege.It's a very fast read, very clever, and I liked that I could root for each of the characters. Even the philandering husband had some redeeming qualities.Recommended as a good beach read. Nothing serious, nothing heavy - just a good story about people taking charge of their lives.

DIVORCE, NEW YORK STYLE By Red Rock Bookworm The characters and circumstances in Gigi Levangie Grazer's latest book QUEEN TAKES KING", could have been taken directly from the pages of your favorite supermarket tabloid.......or perhaps The New York Post's PAGE SIX.Jackson "Jacks" Power wants a divorce from Cynthia, his wife of 25 years, in order to marry Lara, a potential "trophy wife". Jacks, being Jacks, doesn't want to face the possibility of losing his tri-plex at 740 Park Avenue in the divorce so he devises a plan to ensure he retains possession of the family homestead. Cynthia, it seems, has a few plans of her own.Jacks persona is easily recognizable. He is part Donald Trump, part Tony Robbins and part Muhammad Ali in his youth (I am the greatest). Where "The Donalds" combover has been the subject of many a snarky remark, Jacks hair also seems to be a topic for discussion as illustrated by Jacks father who states, "You know that hair of yours looks ridiculous".It appears that Ms. Grazer has drawn on the invaluable resources contained in the idiosyncrasies and foibles of individuals in her inner circle and has created a cast of characters whose antics are hilarious. You will love Cynthia's shrink, Goldie with his Zorba the Greek philosophy of life and her New York Ballet Theater BFF, Margot, she of the salty language. The are just two of the colorful characters who dance through the pages of this amusing tale.With the help and encouragement of their lesbian daughter Vivi, Cynthia transforms herself and shows Jacks that she too is a "Power to be reckoned with". (pun intended). From the title Ms. Grazer gave her book it is obvious that she sees divorce as a chess game played out on the big board of life. I, however, saw it more as a game of Monopoly that attempts to answer the age old question, "Can you really be happy and fulfilled without owning Boardwalk and Park Place"??

Well narrated entertaining bit of fluff By Sandy Kay My review is of the audio CD narrated by Phil Gigante and Tanya Eby; I have not read the printed book.Part of the reason I chose this book is that I expected the plot to be light and not too involved. I wanted to listen while doing something else and not be distracted by too much plot. Basically I was not looking for serious literature and I was not disappointed.The best part of the narration was that the publishers decided to use two different narrators, male and female. Even the best narrators don't do very well with voices for characters of the opposite gender and it made the book a much more enjoyable listening experience than if one narrator had tried to do all the characters. Both narrators did a good job; I felt they captured the essence of the characters.The plot is light and amusing. The divorce fight never gets particularly nasty and the reader (or listener) never gets the feeling that either party is particularly invested in the marriage. Even the cheated on wife never feels hurt and betrayed enough for you to hate the husband and his girlfriend. It seems more of a game between the characters than real emotional content. For my purposes, it was just what I wanted. If you want some entertaining fluff based in the high income bracket world of New York, this may fit the bill. If you want something deeper, you may not be as satisfied with this book as I was.

It is Todd’s POV on the day he met Abby. I did not read the first book in the series, but enjoyed this book just the same. Prior reading is not required to read this book.Todd is an ex-Marine Sniper dealing with day to day real life. He carried a fare bit of stress with his sniper duties then and feels himself being similarly pulled under now in his current job. His sisters have noted it and he’s not sure why he’s feeling like his is. Things are going pretty good for him since leaving the Armed Forces. His surf shop is doing rather well and plans to open another branch are taking hold. What he doesn’t expect is a lovely Rock Star taking refuge from reporters to jump into his surf shop.Abigail Kelly is a rock star and is followed incessantly by paparazzi. She just wants some time away-time to herself-to be alone! But when she ducks into Todd’s shop to dodge reporters, what she finds is a shockingly handsome surfer whose eyes make her melt. Todd sees she’s agitated and his training kicks in. Before you know it, he takes up the role of being her bodyguard for the entire day!What an incredible day it is. The whole book takes place in just this one day. A first date if you will. Getting food, enjoying conversation on the beach, and trying to savor the time his has with this wonderful girl. This is a quick breezy read and oh so tantalizing! Just this one day changes Todd’s perspective of his life. He starts to think clearer as the day goes on. Things he thought he wanted he realizes aren’t really a priority. Although this is a super sweet read, I would’ve liked a little more oomph. Maybe a bit more of Todd’s inner X-rated thoughts?? There is a lot of chemistry but I needed a little more. What we get is a romantic first date where both characters are totally smitten with each other.3.5 stars/2.5 flamesThis book was provided to me by The Jeep Diva for the express purpose of an honest review. Starts off Good but need more than a Day,,, By April R Symes ***A gifted copy was provided by the publisher for an honest review***Abigail Kelly is—mega rockstar, tabloid fixture while Todd Camford went from Marine sniper to owning a beachfront surf shop in Florida and when the two met- sparks happen. It was nice to see two different people meet and fall in love BUTthis story is mainly about one day and there is a lot of talking and a lot of descriptions - which is normally fine but it drags ... there is romance and chemistry but honestly, I hoped for a real development.It is a story where two people from different worlds collide and meet. Todd who has been hurt in love before and Abby who is literally stalked by fans and media who really can never have a life...two souls meet and in one day, there lives change and change, it looks like for the good.I felt like this story needed to delvelop over a week or even more, only but to happen in one day and it leaves off where there “may be” a chance for us to see Abby and Todd again? The story fell flat for me on that premise. I really liked Todd and Abby and felt the author did us, the reader and her characters a disservice by not fully flushing the story out more and giving more of a story. I did like what I read and hope there will someday be more of a story for Abby and Todd. What story we did get, I did like.My rating : 3 Stars ***

By Jessica Leigh (Lovin' Los Libros) It always saddens me when a book by an author I enjoy doesn't end up working for me. Unfortunately this is the case with Crossing Abby Road. Having enjoyed many of Ophelia's other novels, I immediately accepted this one for review. I did not realize this was the same variation of the first book, Abby Road, only in the male POV. I had thought it to be another couple's story, which is why I requested it and read the previous book a few weeks ago. I do not much care for retellings in the male POV, especially of the same story. While the two books are not identical, there wasn't enough of a difference to really grip me and keep me engaged.I did think it was neat how London made this A Day in the Life kind of story with Todd. For the first half, I was enjoying Todd and Abby's banter, but after that I found myself skimming along to the end. I felt like there was so much inner dialogue with Todd and while it was nice to be in his head, I wanted to see him be more proactive. He could be a bit contradictory at times too and it was hard to condone some his decisions after meeting and knowing a girl for only a day.Todd is a good guy though. I appreciated how he handled his family and how he treated Abby. He is protective of her even though they just met, realizing she doesn't want attention drawn to her and he tries to make their time together as normal and casual as possible.Where Abby Road was Beatles themed, this one was all about Frank Sinatra, which I loved. That extra bit really added some more flair to the story. I am all about creative infusions!While this one didn't quite work for me personally, I think I may have enjoyed it more had I not just read Abby Road. Sometimes I need more a gap in between retellings so I can look at the story with fresh eyes.
