By Steve Precious Moments are one of those things that just about everyone in the Christian world, and many in the secular world, know about. The little teardrop-shaped children are easily recognizable everywhere. They were first drawn by Samuel Butcher in the 1970's. The first collectible figurine line was created in 1978, and throughout the 80's and 90's they were one of the hottest collectibles. They were oh-so-cute and the thing to get for birthdays, weddings, holidays, and special milestones in life.Today the craze seems to have died down a bit, but you still see them make appearances, including this book. The book itself is solidly made. It's a slightly padded hardcover that measures a little smaller than a sheet of paper, about 11 inches by 8 inches. Every page inside is full color and made of a thicker stock than usual. The book has space in the front for a child to write a family tree, answer questions "all about me", draw a handprint, and keep a record of church events. On the last two pages are spaces for someone to write a prayer for the child, and for the child to write his or her own.The book doesn't provide a suggested age range, you can probably start sharing this with them once they start understanding words and learning to read from ages 3-7. The stories are true to the title of the book--you can definitely get through them in 5 minutes, so it's great to read with your child right before bed and then conclude with a Bible verse called a "bedtime Bible promise". There's an article in the book that talks about establishing a comforting routine at night. The book is divided into three categories: God is Trustworthy (Old Testament stories), God is Good (Psalms and Proverbs), and God is Love (New Testament stories). There are about 46 stories in total. The stories are paraphrased from the International Children's Bible, and do a passable job of being accurate and complete. The star of this book, of course, are the adorable Precious Moments children. There are illustrations throughout of Precious Moments children as the characters of various Bible stories, or just pictures of them in everyday situations like a teacher teaching kids or a pair of kids having a picnic. Some of the illustrations are full-page ones filled with all kinds of detail that children would love just to stare at (in fact, especially for younger kids you might find there's a lot more interest in the pictures than in the words). And the detail is such that you can go through every one with your child and point out different objects and animals. Every last illustration is absolutely delightful and reminiscent of those figurines and artwork we loved back in the 1980's.As for the text of the book, for the most part it seems to follow the Bible closely, not a surprise since it literally is a paraphrase from a Bible translation. The main pet peeve I have here is that certain words go a bit too far in my opinion in terms of sacrificing accuracy for sounding overly conversational and colloquial. For example, instead of the word "blessed" they use the word "happy", which of course is not all accurate. Instead of the word "wise" they use "smart", again, not quite the same thing. I appreciate the effort of trying to make the Bible to those with the most basic vocabulary, but it's not like those words they replaced were very difficult ones.Still, we're in such dire need of great, engaging, appealing books for children these days and despite the flaws the selection of stories and beautiful illustrations make this a worthwhile purchase, especially if there are girls in your household. I look forward to being able to read it with my little girl.

Almost 50 Bible Stories with Iconic Illustrations By Conny Title: 5 Minute Bedtime TreasuryAuthor: Precious MomentsPublisher: Tommy NelsonISBN: 978-0718043193“Nightly reading from the Precious Moments 5-Minute Bedtime Treasury will help children wind down and create a special bedtime tradition you will cherish,” states the introduction to the book.~ What ~At one-hundred-and-ninety-two pages, this oversized hardbound targets children ages three to seven years old who like five-minute short devotionals regarding the Bible. With no scary scenes, the stories included are retold by Jennifer Morgan Gerelds from the International Children’s Bible. Full color, full page iconic drawings grace every few pages of little children at play, praying, or reading. An attached ribbon is added as a marker. After an introduction and pages to fill in regarding a family tree, about the reader, and church record, the book is divided into three sections of almost fifty devotions taken from the Bible, followed by two prayer pages to complete. The three areas are divided into Old Testament, Psalms and Proverbs with Ecclesiastes, and the New Testament.Starting from creation to iconic Biblical characters such as Noah, Joseph, Moses, David, Daniel, and Jonah, the middle section reiterates God’s goodness, love, and hope. The last eighteen stories cover Jesus’s birth, miracles, parables, death, resurrection, and transformation as well as His second coming.~ Why ~This is a calm, soothing way to read Bible stories to children at nighttime or naptime. The picture of Daniel in the lions’ den innocuously shows a happy animal. The crucifixion is discussed with no body dead on a cross and that the plan of salvation is briefly explained with no mention of sin. Having the Bible verses referenced is also helpful.~ Why Not ~The main problem with this book is that it probably has to be read out loud to a child as there are too many hard to comprehend words and concepts that a toddler will not understand. Beginner readers will have trouble with the two- and three-syllable words.~ Who ~The Precious Moments series started in 1978 and have sold over 12.5 million books worldwide.~ Wish ~While the designs are well known and cute in this book, the wording may not be understandable to a preschooler. I wish it was more sophomoric for the designated age level.~ Want ~If you are old enough to remember the darling Precious Moments illustrations, you will enjoy reading this book of Bible stories to your young child, but he or she may not comprehend it.Thanks to Book Look Bloggers for selecting me to review this complimentary book for my unbiased, honest opinion.

The first thing my kids and I thought when we opened the box and saw this book, is how beautiful it is! The cover has shiny gold stars on it and brilliantly bright and colorful Precious Moments characters on it. There's a yellow ribbon bookmark to keep your place(it matches the stars). There's even a couple of pages where you can list your family tree, an All About Me page, and a Church Record page. This book is meant to be treasured for a long time. There are stories from the Old and New Testament. The Scripture Reference is given under each Chapter title, and at the end is a Bedtime Bible Promise verse to encourage your child. The stories are very beautifully illustrated. My 9 year old son and I really enjoyed reading it together every night. He says, "It's a good book!" He liked it so much, he even read the title for the next night, so he would know what to look forward to the next time we read together. Reading this together, gave us inspiration for some great discussions about what went on in the Bible, and also some great applications for today. Also, every day in my teenage daughter's lunch, I include a Scripture on a note, and I plan on using the Bedtime Bible Promise Scriptures for those notes. I love it that the book can have a purpose and meaning for the whole family. I, of course, loved seeing the Precious Moments illustrations, and often shared them with the rest of the family, just because they're so cute. This book will definitely be a treasured book in our family, used for many years to come.**I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.**

Fatty. Freak. Friendless. Failure. Sadie Abramowitz is used to being alone. The morbidly obese college freshman literally doesn’t fit in anywhere and was constantly the butt of jokes in high school. So far, life at Cunningham University isn’t much better. Her roommate only communicates in grunts while Sadie’s “dream job” at the school paper has her interviewing her fellow students with questions that practically invite them to insult her. Things change when she’s assigned a story on Griffin Greenberg, the freshman track star who was one of Sadie’s high school bullies. At first, she’s reluctant to work with the gorgeous Griffin, but soon discovers that he’s not such a bad guy. Plus, he’s been keeping a secret: he’s gay. As their friendship grows, Griffin challenges Sadie to do something she never thought possible: train for a marathon. Meanwhile, she supports him as he slowly comes to terms with his sexuality. Together, they help each other survive their first year of college – and also learn how to stand strong on their own. *This book is a New Adult novel with some mature language and situations. It is recommended for readers 14 and up.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. he helps get her into better shape. Both of these changes are paced realistically ... By Jay Bell F#@! BOMB is a story that many people will be able to relate to instantly. If you’re an unwilling introvert, a social outcast, or if you have an unhealthy friendship with your mother, then you already have something in common with the main character of this story. Sadie is an overweight college student with an eating disorder. She comfort eats, stress eats, just-about-anything eats. Her weight is something that cripples her both physical and emotionally, but she finds herself at a turning point when she meets Griffin—a guy who used to bully her in high school, but now faces ridicule himself as a closeted track star. Thus begins a friendship of mutual encouragement. Sadie slowly helps Griffin come to terms with his sexuality, and in return, he helps get her into better shape. Both of these changes are paced realistically all the way through to the end of the story. There are ups and downs in both Sadie’s and Griffin’s progress, and their challenges are never portrayed as easy to overcome.I liked Griffin quite a bit and was able to relate to him more than Sadie. Not surprising, since I’m a gay guy, and I’ve never struggled with my weight, although I have had body image issues. More than it being an issue of gender or size, I found Sadie a little too nice at first. She doesn’t judge, which is great on paper, but this means she’s often chastising her friends for making insensitive comments, even if the target of criticism isn’t around to hear the negative opinion. This becomes part of the plot though, Sadie finding that sometimes anger is necessary, and that even she is judgmental. I liked the less holier-than-thou Sadie we get to see toward the end of the story. This book is also about stepping outside your comfort zone, as well as outside the house. Life is it lot more satisfying when it’s actually spent living, and that means socializing. Sadie makes a lot of friends. Too many for me to keep up with. I’m terrible with names, and I’m not sure some of the characters added anything to the plot, but there is a very nice payoff toward the end. The best part is how fully realized Griffin’s character is. It’s rare that the best friend, or supporting role of the book, is so fully realized. You get two full stories in F#@! BOMB for the price of one, and this trick isn’t accomplished by switching perspectives. I find that very impressive. My favorite part of the book was witnessing a character striving to improve herself, and just how good this made her feel. Because of this book, I took up jogging again, and so far I’m loving it. F#@! BOMB isn’t quite a gay romance novel, which is usually what I review. If you’re looking to take a break from that genre, this could be a good diversion for you. If you have a friend that is struggling to come out but might feel overwhelmed by a completely gay book, this might be a nice fit. If you’re still young and worried that you’re letting life pass you by, this story might get you back on track. And hey, if you’re looking for a little extra motivation, reading about Sadie and Griffin might help you like it did me. Check out the samples from all the usual places and see what you think. Personally, I found it refreshing to read something different than my usual fare.

Sadie’s struggles with weight loss were very believable and, trust me, I know. The interaction between her mother and Sadie about healthy eating was (sadly) very realistic was well. I nearly cheered when Sadie confronted her mother about her sabotaging her weight loss attempts. Having run a marathon myself, I could also sympathize with her struggles with training and desire to give up at certain times.I did struggle to like Sadie sometimes as she was at times a whiney teenager that blamed everyone and everything else for her problems. Maybe the book was a bit too authentic in that regard because I swear some of Sadie’s thoughts were things I’ve heard come out of my teenage nieces and nephews mouths. But Sadie had just enough snarkiness and witticisms to force me to like her.The book is full of quirky characters. I loved her best friend, Griffin. His character was realistic as well, especially his very male ideas about dating and exclusivity. The only tidbit I found unrealistic about the novel was the roommates. There were so quirky that it was unrealistic to believe that one dorm room/apartment would end up with that amount of weirdness.I recommend this novel to anyone looking for a book that feels genuine.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Splits the Seams of Any Category You Might Squeeze it Into. By Eponine For the story's protagonist, Sadie, this is a story about weight, yes. For her friend, Griffin, it's also the story of his coming out. But there was so much more to this, and those were the sections that surprised me and made me feel like I was reading a truly talented literary author. It's the story of believing yourself worthy of having friends and then finding friends who don't disappoint--who actually cheer you when something goes right in your life. It's also a story of the people who love us but love us in flawed ways. Watching the relationship between Sadie and her mother play out felt like the relationships I witnessed growing up, as a parent can sometimes observe the changes in their child with both love and jealousy. The mother was a beautiful, wounded character, afraid of losing the comfort-food connection she had with Sadie. And Sadie was the most beautiful of daughters, loving and sensitive to her mother's wounds, but also determined to break the damaging cycle and put distance between herself and her mom if that's what it would take. It's about confidence, and all the thrilling places confidence has the ability to take you. I loved this book and wish there were more books like this one for people who spend too much time feeling separate from the world. Which is everyone, really.

Good book just not what I needed By John Benavides It's probably not the author's fault but this book did not adequately prepare me for the IBHRE CEPS exam. The questions on the exam were posed in a manner different than what this book prepares you for and it included content not covered by the book.

Another great story from Karenna Colcroft By Becky C I have been a fan of Karenna Colcroft for some time, enjoying her rich, multilayered style of writing. In With Every Touch we have what at first appears to be a simple, sweet love story of a woman in a public profession who catches the eye of a blue-collar worker. Once we're into the story we find that it is much more. The timeline of the book is very short, just a couple of weeks. Sheila is a television reporter in Portland, Maine, where she has bought an old fixer-upper house with plans to repair it and sell it for a profit when she gets the hoped-for offer of a job in a larger news market. She feels quite capable of doing most of the work herself but finds with the demands of her job and the actual condition of the house she may have bitten off more than she can chew. When a broken hot water faucet and a leaking ceiling mean a crisis and lost time at her job, she calls an unknown plumber to ask for a quick fix at less than standard emergency rates.Erich takes Sheila's call early one morning and agrees to at least look at the problem before determining the cost of repairs. The have insta-attraction for each other, but events in their pasts initially block them from wanting to pursue anything further. Things happen fast, though, and to protect herself, Sheila puts on her bitch personality to prove to herself and Erich that she doesn't need anyone in her life. Erich's good nature lets that bounce off and convinces her that there is something between them worth exploring.Erich is coming off a divorce from the woman he was married to for 10 years, so he is cautious and not looking for a rebound relationship. Sheila's past is more damaging, leaving her with scars, both visible and invisible. The worst injury, though, is to her ability to trust anyone. When she gets the longed-for job offer far from Portland, does Erich want to convince her to trust him enough to stay, or can they weather a long-distance relationship? Or is this the end of anything that could have happened between them? After all, they've only known each other a very short time. The story is told in third person, but switches smoothly between both POVs, giving us insight into the motivations and concerns of both main characters. Ms. Colcroft gives us a character-driven novel with beautiful settings and interesting backstories that are lightly developed but enough to let us know who these people are. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to romance readers who like a well-written story that has a happy-for-now ending that you just know will turn into an HEA.

Review The story has all the makings of the next *The Da Vinci Code* but I think it is even better... a wonderful love story, mystery, and mystical adventure all rolled up into one fast-moving and brilliantly told story. --Nick Chiarkas, State Public Defender Emeritus, author of WeepersGoss boldly blurs the spiritual, the secular and the supernatural resulting in a story that, depending on how deep your faith goes, seems eerily real. --Michael Popke, The IsthmusSolidly crafted and suspensefully written, The Uncommitted is the latest release from Margaret M. Goss and it proves something of a juggernaut when stacked up against other releases in the genre. Ingenious in its plotting, colourful in its characters, taut in its narrative, Goss ably creates an atmosphere thick with dread and ambiguity... -- --Book Viral review

About the Author Margaret Goss is a writer, hockey mom and registered nurse. She has a B.S. in Nursing from Arizona State University and an M.A. in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Though Margaret has spent many years working on and off as a nurse, her true calling has always been writing. Her parents, first-generation Italian-Americans, inspired Margaret's early appreciation for the arts. Her father, an English and Journalism teacher, as well as a musician, and her mother, an art teacher and painter, passed on a creative gene that their post-Depression-era pragmatism could not stifle. She currently resides in Madison, Wisconsin with her husband, three children and her border collie-terrier.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. page turner with heart By Amazon Customer The uncommitted is definitely a page turner. It was the perfect companion for air travel on a two day business trip. The story had a great mix of spooky/supernatural with traditional spirituality and religious history. From the beginning of the book and throughout, she builds the characters such that you the reader feel empathy for them. I was torn as I wondered where the ending would bring the characters. The choice of locales within the book brought many connections personally, and appealed to me as someone who loves numbers and how they play into the world. I am looking forward to a hopefully soon to follow book 2.

The story has all the makings of the next “The Da Vinci Code” but, I think even better. I love the fact that the story had two different people – Josie and Andrew who have these separate lives; and two different story lines. The reader knows that Josie and Andrew will meet and is anxious to witness the meeting, but the author artfully takes her time, building suspense and mystery. And when they do meet Margaret Goss skillfully adds just enough sexual tension to keep us glued to the pages. This is a wonderful love story, mystery, and mystical adventure all rolled up in to one fast moving brilliantly told story.

The Uncommitted is a thoroughly enjoyable adventure of belief that is filled with intrigue every step of the way. The characters are memorable, the themes are timely and provacative, and the plot line is imaginative yet plausible. It is amazing to think this is Ms. Goss' first publication as this book is so well written compared to other first novels I have read in the past. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading more by Ms. Goss in the future!

It is the important things that will provide you lots of things around the globe and also this cosmos, in the real life and also here after. As exactly what will certainly be offered by this , just how can you negotiate with things that has many perks for you?
