At times the brain/mind/body and the soul cannot be forfeited by a society that is unwilling to accept those whose focus does not correspond with uniformity. Medications, behavioral therapy, and strict discipline come and go. Some teachers prefer a medicated child while others violently oppose stimulant drugs. The risks outweigh the benefits of conforming to just medication administration. Impulsivity to me seems to the one trait that creates chaos. I enjoyed the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, the transcendentalist, "Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires...courage" (Gill, 2014. p. 178). Very Enlightening By Tebutebu The term ADHD or ADD has always been of interest to me, especially because a few years ago a friend's son was wrongly labelled by his teacher as having ADHD. This was a traumatic experience for the parents who sought medical help and were relieved to find the teacher's conclusion was wrong. The information I found within this book has really improved my understanding of this condition. It was interesting to note that a condition resembling ADHD, had been recognised as far back as over 2000 years ago by Hippocrates. I enjoyed reading about the development of the study of this condition through the years and the future projections regarding non-pharmacological treatments. It was also nice to learn about prominent people with ADHD like, Michael Jordan, Richard Branson and many more mentioned in this book.The book addresses the topic of ADHD from the point of view of the sufferer, the carer i.e, the family member caring for someone with ADHD, and the medical personnel or treating clinicians. Apparently the main features of this condition are increased impulsivity, hyperactivity and inattention. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder, noticeable in childhood from as early as age 7.The most important aspect of this book for me was learning about the symptoms of ADHD for example, being distracted by other stimuli in the environment, being forgetful in daily activities etc. Some of the symptoms would never have crossed my mind as being associated with ADHD.Another interesting section was the section about diagnosing this condition in adults. This is something I have not heard much discussion about in the past. According to the authors, ADHD in adults present in unique ways and may not be as clear cut as in children.The book offers relevant information about the symptoms and different treatments of this condition. It gives an analysis of the argument for and against the use of non-pharmacological interventions as opposed to pharmacological ones. It also discusses a variety of other options like diet, exercise etc.This is a good book that is well written and researched. The authors make good use of visual effects in the book by using lots of diagrams, tables and graphs to highlight the points. It is written in plain English so that it's easily understandable by everyone.I found this book really enlightening. An added bonus of this book is that even if you do not suffer from ADHD or ADD you can use some of the information included in this book to increase your focus.

Excellent read By History buff This is a good book on the subject of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder more commonly referred to as simply ADHD. It is written in a waythat makes the whole subject understandable for the common reader without requiring any background in the medical field and is aimed at someone who has been or knows someone who has been diagnosed with ADHD or knows someone who suffers from what may seem like a chronic lack of attention and focus.Here is what I liked or learned from this book:- Liked the fact that I was able to sit down with a cup of coffee and go through it in one sitting.- Understand that ADHD is caused by a biological brain defect, it is not a chosen habit of mind.- It opened my eyes to how deep the negative long term effects of ADHD can be on career stability and relationships.- Appreciate that it can easily go mis-diagnosed because it's symptoms overlap with other mental disorders like Bipolar Mania, Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety and Epilepsy. Page 68 has a good chart to help distinguish.- This is not something you or I would be able to diagnose. If you know someone who seems chronically unable to focus and constantly shifting gears to the point of getting into trouble, they may have ADHD. Ask for a medical evaluation by an ADHD specialist.- I was surprised by the list of well known celebrity names pointed out that have ADHD but still have been very successful because they were diagnosed and had the tools to manage it. This is definitely encouraging and reason for hope.- Points out the kind of careers that an ADHD individual may do well at or even have a natural advantage in because of their ADHD.- Points out some good non-drug based tools to deal with ADHD. The chapter on medications is good to be aware of and to share with a treating physician.Overall I felt like the book does a great job of educating the casual reader who wants to learn about this topic and is not a medical practitioner themselves.

About the Author

David E. Garland (PhD, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) is William B. Hinson Professor of Christian Scriptures and dean for academic affairs at George W. Truett Seminary, Baylor University. He is the New Testament editor for the revised Expositor's Bible Commentary and the author of various books and commentaries, including Mark and Colossians/Philemon in the NIV Application Commentary, and the article on Mark in the Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary. He and his wife, Diana, reside in Waco, Texas.

Andreas Köstenberger is Senior Research Professor of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He is the author of numerous works on John, including his commentary in the Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament series, "John" in Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament, and “John” in Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary.

Necessary Reference Material for any Markan Study By Chris Ho The gospel of Mark may be the shortest gospel, but you will not believe how much one is able to discover and understand from the gospel of Mark.David E. Garland has written a definitive book on the theology of the gospel of Mark. Garland starts with an elaborate introduction to the gospel of Mark. He covers the historical framework of the theology of Mark and also the literary nature of Mark’s gospel. This introduction takes close to 25% of the book and will be a value resource for anyone doing research on the book of Mark.For the rest of the book, Garland then traces different themes through the gospel of Mark. This will be a section that pastors will find helpful as they preach through Mark. Pastor who are interested to showcase a certain topic within the gospel of Mark will find this section especially helpful. I especially like the chapter where Garland covers the secrecy motif in the gospel of Mark. I must say this is one of the questions I always have when reading through the gospels, why Jesus do not want some to proclaim his identity to the masses. I found Garland especially enlightening in this area and have been helped by his in-depth research on the gospel of Mark.This book is certainly not a walk in the park, and most will probably not buy a copy of this book. But if you are currently researching on the gospel of Mark, or intends to do serious research work on the gospel of Mark you really should consider this book. You will be able to find many gems and treasures within this book. This is without a doubt the most thorough study of the gospel of Mark I have ever seen. This book is very well organized and researched, detailed and clear. This book will satisfy the intellect of advanced scholars but is simple and clear enough for anyone to read and understand. A worthwhile read or for use as reference material. The clear and specific divisions make it easy to jump (ebook) to just the section you want/need. Things that I had looked for in other commentaries and found lacking I found in this book, though it is more than a commentary. A great resource for any library!

He is Dean and Holder of The Charles J. and Eleanor McLerran Delancey Chair of the Dean and Professor of Christian Scriptures at George W. Truett Seminary Baylor University. Garland is the author of numerous books and articles, including numerous highly acclaimed commentaries, and the New Testament editor of The Expositor’s Bible Commentary. Most recently, Garland has produced this landmark volume on the theology of the Second Gospel as part of Zondervan’s Biblical Theology of the New Testament (BTNT) series.A Theology of Mark’s Gospel: Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God is the fourth volume in the projected eight-volume BTNT series. I love this chick, but she is a magnet for all things drama. She and Jay go through the most unnecessary issues that could simply be cleared up with a little communication, but oh no not them. She would rather play games and deflect while he shuts down and ignores her for days. Nothing good can come when you're mad and not speaking to each other, but you both have very high sex drives.I like how CeeCee is loyal to her clients. If she could only manage to give the same loyalty to her man, she would be good. Going back to her country roots to visit her dying Aunt and her life is flipped upside down once again. She finally gets it together and her life gets back on track.

I can't wait to read how CeeCee is going to handle her new client! I am looking forward to seeing how she deals with being 800 miles away from Laney.

Sanger This pdf/pamphlet is like a CliffNotes study guide for the Major Prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. These four prophets ministered at times of great social turmoil. It gives brief factual information about the approximate time and location of their ministry as well as the historical perspective. A colorful chart showing the various kings of Judah and Israel as well as foreign powers that interacted with God’s chosen people.When teaching a book of the bible it is helpful to find a source which will give you some valuable information in a nutshell. For example as I taught the book of Daniel over a twelve-week period. This resource would have been helpful to give me a global view of happening in the different territories. When doing an in-depth study it is hard to find time to research the other books that share the same span of history. Now as I teach Gospel of Matthew I can use this same pamphlet to find references to the Messiah and the fulfillment through Jesus Christ.An overview of each prophet gives a simple outline, their major themes and a few memorable scriptures.A nice map is included showing the areas of each empire and the reach of the Assyrians.The ministry of the major prophets was not to teach. God used them to call his people to repent of their rebellion, greatest challenge was to get the people to change their attitudes and behaviors and return to God.During their captivity by the Assyrians and Babylon, the prophets provided them hope and helped guide them when they finally returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls and the city.They also reminded the people of God’s faithfulness and compassion.

Rose Publishing has recently released a pamphlet entitled, “Major Prophets” that identifies the importance of these Old Testament writers. These Major Prophets’ writings are significant because of their anticipation of the Messiah, faith in God, their pleas for God’s people to repent. Furthermore, we are given insight to how God responds to His people through their words and actions.This pamphlet explains the difference between Major and Minor Prophets and identifies that date of ministries, location, audience, and historical content. Another important feature that this pamphlet provides is a list of prophesies and fulfillment of Christ with associate scriptural references. Historical perspectives for each Major Prophet is also provided for us to understand the challenges that these writers faced during tumultuous times.As a bonus, Rose Publishing offers guidelines for deeper understanding of the books written by these Major Prophets. This pamphlet is a great reference when studying the books of the Major Prophets. My personal recommendation for the use of the pamphlet is as a quick reference guide. This would be great in small Bible Study groups or Adult Sunday School classes. It is a nice layout and easy to follow. I definitely would recommend this pamphlet to leaders or theologians.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Keeping Prophets, Prophecies and Circumstances Straight! By piknik I find this pamphlet on the Major Prophets to be exceedingly helpful. One of the particularly useful aspects of it is the map, where the successive empires are shown: the outlines of the Assyrian and Babylonian Empires are superimposed over the general map, where one can view the entire Mediterranean area comprised of its numerous countries, with little Israel and Judah highlighted, as well: I have always found this aspect a little confusing, so, here is visual clarification! Rose Publishing pamphlets often utilize tables, and the ones here, along with a timeline, help us keep prophets, prophecies and groups to whom they are given, all clear. The introduction, stating the purpose for the prophecies. along with reasons to read them, also provides motivation to the reluctant reader. This is a splendid aid to the study of the longer prophetical books. I thoroughly recommend the it and plan to purchase copies. I received a pamphlet in return for a frank review.
