Paula Marinaro was born and raised on the North Shore of Boston. She currently lives with her husband in a cozy little house on a lake in Western Massachusetts. She holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice, a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and a master’s degree in education. She considers herself to be a lifelong learner and enjoys international travel. She is extremely proud to be the mother of two children, Jake and Leah. Her debut novel, Raine Falling, was published in 2014.

Chasing Claire By The Book Chick I absolutely loved Raine Falling and was a little scared about Chasing Claire because Claire was such a wild card with her past and addictions. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the direction Marinaro took in this story. Claire put on her big girl panties and took control of her life. Although Claire was still reeling from the violent events that occurred in Raine Falling, she is trying to find a semblance of normal for her life. And surprisingly, Reno, the sexy biker who she has a love/hate relationship with, helps her to find that normal. Reno and Claire begin Chasing Claire in a really ugly place. Like him being balls deep in another woman, ugly. Although the situation that drove him to that point was feeling rejected by Claire, she is no less than hurt. The couple lash out at one another with barbs and insults and a bigger wedge is driven between them because neither of them is willing to be open about how them feel. But a moment of serendipity occurs when Claire’s n-used truck, a gift from her brother-in-law Diego breaks down and she needs a ride to her first day of college. Claire calls the MC clubhouse hoping that one of the biker brethren can give her a ride. But guess who answers the call? Good ole Reno. Reno takes Claire to school and is actually so sweet, giving her a pep talk and encouragement. He even waits around to make sure she gets around alright. And one sweet, but not so selfless, gesture by Reno provide he and Claire with a bit of a detente. I mention Reno’s not so selflessness because although HE IS helping her by taking her to and from school, he loves her and he wants her in his life. He uses their time together to woo her in his gruff and sexy biker way. I love the push/pull relationship between the couple and Claire’s ability to give as good as she got. She is definitely woman enough for Reno and doesn’t let him steamroll over her.As Reno and Claire settle into a revitalized relationship — one that is VERY hot a heavy — some of demons from Claire’s past come back to haunt them and almost ends up costing Reno…BIG TIME. I’m intentionally being vague because I don’t want to ruin the story for future readers. There are so many BIG moments in this story between Reno and Claire and an epic one with Reno and his mother, Dolly, while they are visiting his father’s graveside. The moment with Reno and his mother changes everything. I both loved it and hated it because it left me sitting on the edge of my seat. Fortunately, that is not where Marinaro left us. Everything definitely works and new key players, surrounding Dolly, enter into the story. I’m going to love to see what Marinaro does with THAT storyline.I really enjoyed the story and the glimpses we see into Raine’s life–settled and happy–and Glory’s life–still broken but on the mend. There is a devastating event that occurs in Glory’s life in this story that left me a little broken-hearted. It will be a major game changer for Glory and I’m sure provides a nice set up for her story with Jules. I cannot wait for them!Lovers of MC romance will definitely appreciate the depth of this story and the characters. I think they are all put together very well.

Raine, Claire's big sister was the heroine of book 1, Raine Falling. In this next installment (of what's turning out to be a fab series so far!) Claire and Reno are up to bat! The only thing keeping the two sister's mentally and physically in tact is the family of Hells Saints MC Club. Reno and Claire share history. Claire is so broken ~ more so than Raine. Even though the physical pain and scars have healed from an abusive relationship, drug use and poor decisions that brought in a boatload of danger, there are some things that lurk in the deep dark area of Claire's mind that just won't escape; because of this, Claire is a runner. Reno is done with that deal ~ he's out to make her his but he needs to get past his own demons. I will say that Paula Marinello did an outstanding job with the main characters and all the supporting ones ~ Prosper, the MC president, ahhhh! Love him! Jules, Dolly, Pinky, Glory (love the catering business!) ... What I love about MC books in general are well, the hot badass bikers (duh), the sense of loyalty to their club, the all for one ... the code they live by and the overwhelming support by their members and adversaries when a family member is in danger. Oh, the cemetery scene ~ holy crap, freakin awesome!!!! Just an incredible job by Paula. A Must Read!!!!

Claire and her sister survived a troubled childhood, an abusive ex-boyfriend and she is still haunted by a brutal kidnapping. Trying to overcome her past, she goes to the one person who she knows can help to have a heart to heart talk, her adoptive father and President of the Hells Saints Motorcycle Club, Prosper. There is one problem Prosper can't fix, her broken heart.Reno is trying to forget Claire with booze and women, but still cannot forget her. He understands Claire is to be handles carefully, but she avoids him, trying to save her heart. Just when he thinks Claire will finally be his, something life threatening may tear them apart forever.I loved seeing how Claire and Reno relationship grows. In the beginning, Reno was a jerk and I didn't like him at all. Finally Claire and Reno open up to each other and let go of the past. Their chemistry is off the charts and I loved seeing the complete turnaround Reno has and tries to be the man Claire deserves.If you read Raine Falling, this is a must read. You get caught up with the rest of the Hells Saints Motorcycle gang that you met in Raine Falling, Crow, Jules, Raine, Diego, Dolly & Prosper. I wonder who the next book will be about?

About the Author

Howard E. A. Tinsley is professor emeritus of psychology at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale (where he was director of the doctoral training program in counseling psychology) and a research associate in psychology at Western Washington University. Formerly, he was a professor at the University of Oregon and University of Florida, and a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, the University of Washington, and Wageningen University in the Netherlands. He is a licensed psychologist in Illinois (now inactive) and prior to his retirement was a diplomate of the American Board of Vocational Experts. Tinsley is the lead editor of the Handbook of Applied Multivariate Statistics and Mathematical Modeling, the senior editor of Volume 2 (Personal Counseling and Mental Health Problems) of the Encyclopedia of Counseling and the author of more than 150 publications dealing with counseling and psychotherapy, leisure, vocational psychology and psychological measurement. He served as the editor of the Journal of Vocational Behavior and Passages, a guest editor of the Journal of Counseling Psychology and Leisure Sciences, an advisory editor of Contemporary Psychology, and an associate editor of the Encyclopedia of Career Decisions and Work Issues and the Journal of Leisure Research. Tinsley has also served on the editorial boards of nine prominent psychology journals and the editorial advisory board of the Test Corporation of America. Tinsley is a recipient of numerous honors, including the research award of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association and the Allen V. Sapora Research Award for excellence in leisure psychology research. He is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in The World, and various reference works focusing on specific professions. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, Western Psychological Association, and American Psychological Society, a former chair of the Commission on Assessment of the American College Personnel Association, a former member of the Board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs, and a former president and secretary-treasurer of the Academy of Leisure Sciences. Tinsley is the webmaster of the Society for Vocational Psychology, the former webmaster for the Academy of Leisure Sciences, and he served two terms as a member of the Mukilteo, Washington City Council.

Suzanne H. Lease, PhD, is an associate professor and training director of the APA accredited counseling psychology doctoral training program in the department of counseling, educational psychology and research at the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN. She also taught at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She is co-editor of Volume 2 (Personal Counseling and Mental Health Problems) of the Encyclopedia of Counseling. She has taught graduate courses in counseling theory for 23 years. Lease received her PhD in psychology (counseling) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is a licensed psychologist (health service provider) in the state of Tennessee. In addition to theories of counseling, her teaching interests include professional issues in counseling psychology, vocational psychology, practicum supervision, and multicultural counseling. Her research topics address health promotion; masculinity; career development; and gay, lesbian, and bisexual (GLB) issues. Her current research focuses on masculinity and interpersonal competency in relationships with male and female co-workers; masculinity and health promoting/health risk behaviors; stress, work meaning, and health; and career adaptability in student athletes. She received the Dean’s Excellence in Research and Scholarship award from the college of education, the University of Memphis (2006); the Dean’s Excellence in Service award (2013); and the Society of Counseling Psychology Lifetime Mentoring Award (2013). She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Career Development, Psychology of Men and Masculinity, and is an ad-hoc reviewer for several other journals. She has held leadership positions in the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs (CCPTP) and the Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17 of the American Psychological Association).

Noelle S. Giffin Wiersma, PhD, is a professor of psychology and dean of the college of arts and sciences at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, where she has been employed for 15 years. In addition to serving as chair of the department of psychology, Dr. Wiersma regularly teaches upper-division undergraduate and master’s-level courses on theories of counseling as well as other clinical courses, including theories of personality, psychopathology, and senior practicum.  She is the two-time recipient of the Most Influential Professor award at Whitworth University. Dr. Wiersma received her PhD in counseling psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her undergraduate degree in psychology and French was awarded by Whitworth College in 1990. Her research interests include secondary trauma, particularly the effects of childhood sexual abuse on adult relationship partners, and factors affecting professional quality of life for various mental health and social service providers. Based on these interests, Dr. Wiersma has established community partnerships with local non-profit social service and law enforcement agencies, providing consultation, support, and in-service training and conducting collaborative survey research. As dean of the college of arts and sciences, Dr. Wiersma has concentrated her efforts on the development of interdisciplinary studies programs and advocacy for liberal arts education. Most recently she has begun teaching a required general education course addressing the social, political, and legal implications of treatment of the mentally ill. As part of her upcoming sabbatical, she will be developing a course entailing off-campus study of serial crime in the Pacific Northwest, focusing on themes of psychopathology, evil, and justice.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. like all McCarthy fans By Nobody I am a fan of the underrated novelist Mary McCarthy, and, like all McCarthy fans, am a fan of The Group, her entertaining novel about the lives of eight Vassar graduates, class of 1933.I could not resist checking out a book with the title Exhuming Mary McCarthy.In Jessica Lamirand’s intense new memoir, she chronicles her four years in the 1990s at Colorado College, emphasizing her friendship with six girls who call themselves “the group” (after McCarthy’s book). In their free time, they confide, bicker, and experiment with sex, drinking, and drugs.Written in novelistic fashion, this memoir contains such vivid dialogue and so many well-crafted scenes that I kept flipping back to the title page to make sure it was indeed a memoir, not a novel.Lamarind’s education at Colorado College, located in Colorado Springs, was an intense experience: students take one class at a time in three-and-a-half-week blocks instead of semesters. Jessica is not a perfect student: she struggles at times, and is content with a mix of A’s and B’s. Mark my words: this readable memoir is an important document of the education of a woman at a small Western college. Most college books are set at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, the Seven Sisters colleges, Oxford, or Cambridge. (Indeed, It would seem to us Anglophile readers that, except in David Lodge’s novels and D. J. Taylor’s short story, “Wonderland,” in Wrote for Luck, there are only two schools in England, Oxford and Cambridge.)The girls are immature when they arrive at CC, though some are more experienced than others. As a freshman, Jessica is a sweet, kind girl who has never dated or been kissed. She brings her complete set of Anne of Green Gables to her dorm room. Indeed, she pays as much tribute to L. M. Montgomery as she does to McCarthy. Her ideal man is Gilbert. She wishes a boy/Gilbert would call her “Carrots” so she/Anne could break a slate over his head and fall in love.I share Jessica’s enthusiasm for the Anne books. She writes, The Anne of Green Gables series had always been my very favorite books. From the first time I read them in sixth grade, I had been guilelessly enchanted by Anne and all of L. M. Montgomery’s other characters. I thought Anne and I were a lot alike. WE both daydreamed too much and then got in trouble for not paying attention. We both made lots of laughable mistakes and were none the wiser for having survived them. We both knew that imagination was a gift not to be wasted…. We both longed to find kindred spirits.Jessica LamirandJessica LamirandJessica’s strongest bond in the group is with Sophie, another avid reader and a fan of L. M. Montgomery. The group also includes: Selena (a pothead who has a lot of tantrums), Aspen (a Native American who has a pet rabbit and wants to be a virgin until she marries), Hannah (anorexic, depressive, and promiscuous), Julie (a science major), Leigh (a loud pro-choice advocate who is also, oddly, a Nixon fan and becomes a pothead), and Cassandra (a Spanish major who is balanced and loyal and remains one of Jessica’s closest friends after they graduate).The girls seem very young: they write about their crushes in their “Stalker’s notebook,” anxiously go to dances and ogle boys in the cafeteria, and smoke pot and drink. Jessica does not smoke pot: the one time she does, she is traumatized and terrified. They also listen to a lot of R.E.M. One of their favorites songs is “Exhuming McCarthy,” i.e., Joseph McCarthy, not Mary.Jessica has her ups and downs. She starts out an English major, but switches to art history. As a sophomore, she falls in love with Malcolm, aka Thomas, an unemployed stoner and member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, who has been passed around from Julie to Hannah and now to Jessica. He is not a student, and though he occasionally works at Subway, she ends up supporting him at two jobs. When she is seriously ill, Malcolm always leaves, saying he can’t afford to get sick.Majoring in” boyfriend,” as I call it, is always a problem for women. I doubled in School of Letters and “boyfriend” as an undergrad, and in classics and “boyfriend” as a grad student. If you major in boyfriend, you have to make tough choices: you can’t be all there for every class because you have a relationship to tend.Let me be up-front: this really does read like a novel. It is slightly reminiscent of Pamela Dean’s classic novel, Tam Lin, which takes us year by year through English major Janet’s life at Blackstock College (Carleton College in Minnesota). But since I like novels, writing like a novelist is a good thing.The group eventually splinters, and some go down the dark road of drugs, but these friendships remain a seminal experience in Jessica’s life.I very much enjoyed this, though the McCarthy connection is unclear at first. The most detail is given to the first year, and afterwards it is occasionally repetititious, but by the end of the book you understand why she has structured it as she has, and it is powerful. (You have to stick it out to the end.)Uneven, but a good read, and a historical document!

By Pat Gulya Reading Exhuming Mary McCarthy (EMM) is like living the college years on Jessica’s shoulder and being privy to her thoughts and motives. The reader can’t help but relive her own college years and compare and contrast. Jessica’s self-defacing voice reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert’s, Eat, Pray, Love (EPL). When I picked up EPL and began reading, I found it hard to put it down and I was equally compelled to continue reading EMM.I was completely enchanted by the creative antics of these eight very unique friends: from an elaborate funeral for, Flannery, a pet rat to visiting with a friend in a mental home after her near breakdown. Jessica captures each of the friend’s unique personalities with her true dialogue and captivating descriptions. The book pages flew by, bringing me too quickly to the end.Parents should read this book to find out what really happens during college. Jessica gives us the complete truth about classes, teachers, eating in the cafeteria, living in the dorm, boyfriends, hopes and dreams . We watch the group blossom and grow, although not always agreeing with decisions and often cringing at the consequences and outcomes.I highly recommend this page-turning memoir and wait anxiously for more from this fresh new author.

I recommend this book to everyone By Coco Given To Me For An Honest ReviewExhuming Mary McCarthy by Jessica Lamirand is a must read for those beginning college, parents and grandparents. Once you open this book, it will grab you tightly and hold you down and then you'll just watch those pages turn and turn and turn some more until you get to the last one. This is one book that you will find it hard to put down. This is the memoir of the author. This is her coming of age story. She shares about classes, teachers, eating in the cafeteria, living in the dorm, boyfriends, hopes and dreams. The experience that we've all been through is shared and to our surprise - - we've all survived. This is told with a bit of humor, grace and insight. I recommend this book to everyone. I look for more from Jessica Lamirand.

I'm that girl that needs to be surrounded by the Word and reminded daily to focus on Jesus. I love when women share with other women in such a transparent and down to earth way. These ladies have brought us a devotional for every woman.The topics are applicable to every women of every age. Young women will too enjoy this devotional. Each devotional covers two pages. Scripture is shared, the devotional, prayer, and then the reader has a space created for them to reflect. This is an aspect that I truly love. How awesome to pick up this devotional later down the road of our journey and look back, seeing just where we were and how Jesus moved in our lives. LOVE it!!This is a great way for us Jesus girls to grow daily, knowing more of Him, and understanding more of ourselves through prayer and reflection. This too would make for a great gift!!The leather is soft and the inside of this devotional is very inviting with the soft hues of purple and beautiful design. I love having a devotional that takes me straight to scripture and stories of the Bible. Stories that still resonate with us today. It's Never Too Late is a good little short story that about the whole cougar scene and how it 'works'. I liked it, it was a good fun read that kept me entertained for a little while I was taken away dreaming haha.

Even this present day, I still have (from time to time), mild acne. When I was a teenager, I had moderate acne on my face, shoulders, and some on my back. The skin doctor helped, me somewhat, yet I suffered (and still do). I have read many books before this one and they helped to a degree. However, I was amazed when I read this book because I really did learn more about acne. This book contains NO FLUFF, it is a very basic book, yet it has info on how and why someone gets acne, the types of acne, how to treat acne and diet for acne.This book contains overall solid advice for treating acne, and maintaining healthy skin. Barbara Granath includes the use of common over-the-counter treatment creams, as well as dermatologist prescribed treatments. For over-the-counter products, she includes the well known salicylic acid and benzoyle peroxide- I would also add glycolic acid into that category, as well, as the 3 tend to make a great team when put on the correct schedule. However, Barbara has taken the time to collect the proper research to make this book an excellent guide for treating acne, and healing the skin. I also appreciate that the research resources are included, as this gives further verification that the information is valid. I would recommend this book to anyone treating or studying teen or adult acne.

I wanted to like it I really did. I read all the positive reviews and thought why not. I mean seriously who doesn't like drama filled angsty rock stars? Yet with this story I was really kind of disappointed. Almost immediately, reading this book felt like walking into a conversation that I'd already missed two-thirds of.The hero of this story Brand had some serious mental issues. Much of the book leads the reader to think one thing is happening when in actuality something else entirely is happening. Mental illness is a very serious topic in the world today and I don't think this was handled well in this instance. As the book draws to a close there is a lot of forgiveness and confessions about the past but there isn't a lot of Brand seeking help which I think he would need after everything that happened to him.I don't understand all of the positive reviews for this story. I doubt that I will be reading anything further by this author.

While the story line wasn't bad, it was hard going. The book was incredibly slow and I felt as though I was constantly catching up. I didn't realize that there are other books in the series. There were repetitive words and phrases that left me feeling lost instead of amused, as was the author's intention. The ending was incredibly rushed. Not a fan.

I'm glad I requested the title and have read. It wasn't a favorite for me but I enjoyed the time I spent reading Reft.The plot of this story is very unique, told solely from the point of view of the hero, Brandon Carmichael. I loved this aspect, being inside Brandon's head was a total experience. He's a damaged soul hiding his pain and his true self from the world. Solitude amongst chaos he prefers rather than chaos in his personal life. The detailed writing of his thoughts lent itself as a more cryptic plot device giving clues throughout about what might have happened to Brand but never revealing the whole truth to the reader. This proved intriguing and kept me glued to the pages.The heroine of Reft, Layna, proves to be seemingly predictable to the plot. I had her figured out almost straight away but I enjoyed her just as well. Her ways of handling Brand and his quirks, her love of good banter, or just how she treats silent moments proved to be really great moments in the book. And there were a lot of really great moments between the two to make this enjoyable. Brand's band mates were great additions as secondary characters as well lending some humor to the book and also a nice glimpse in the stability and love Brand has in his life.Everything added up to a story I'm glad I read one which held my attention and intrigued me. I thought the conflict came rather quick and the result of that conflict resolved the story. I thought there were some clues left throughout that didn't quite add up in the end, maybe that was purposeful I'm not sure. And the ending underwhelmed me a bit. I was hoping for a bit ... more, from Layna especially. But overall I enjoyed and think anyone interested in a unique, contemporary romance would get an enjoyable read from Reft.

Sadler As an English woman, I was insulted by the way this "writer" tries to write about an English character living in the UK. Put it this way, this book was so badly written, under researched and pathetic that I couldn't read more than a quarter of it. Example#1: English people do not say things like "Gee!" #2: We do not have bridal showers nor baby showers, nor do we refer to nappies as diapers. We do not go to an endo when we are pregnant. #3 We do NOT say things like "Us Brits..."Do us a favor and at least do a bit of research next time you try to write a book set in the UK.

The synopsis -- a twenty-nine-year-old who stages her pregnancy in order to secure a marriage proposal from her boyfriend -- is original, but there are various loose ends throughout the novel.At first, all Jane Taylor wants is the special attention and gratification of being pregnant, not to mention a guaranteed marriage proposal from her boyfriend Trevor. But then things become rather complicated as the trimesters progress, and the charade takes over Jane's life -- especially when someone offers a book deal she can't refuse. But why doesn't she just stop the charade? I wasn't able to grasp the reasons for Jane's insistence on living a lie -- notwithstanding the gigantic book deal. The author fails to provide the aforementioned insight, and Jane's erratic behavior has no actual logic. But then again, perhaps her eccentricity implies that the scheme isn't supposed to be logical...Despite those loose ends, The Thin Pink Line offers an original plot, sharp and crisp dialogue and wonderful characters. Also, Jane's desperate attempts to legitimize her pregnancy will have the reader roaring with laughter. Red Dress Ink has released a fresh approach to chick lit with this wonderful gem. Illogical and strange conduct aside, Jane Taylor is the proverbial neurotic heroine... And The Thin Pink Line is a must read!

Instead I found myself both entertained and challenged. Not only did I enjoy getting lost in Jane's wacky world, but I found myself faced with the question of just how far would I be willing to go to get what I want. This book is not your average beach read. The story is pure fun, but the writing is smart and witty.

From the Author This is a bit of an irreverent and summarized look at my journey to figure out whether I should give up10% of income and Sundays on the religion thing, when it seems to be hypocritical and irrational.  It was first written in 1994 after I spent a good number of years trying to do everything religion taught me, until I just got fed up with the whole thing.  Like the navigator who didn't fall off the edge of the earth when he dared to test his assumptions, life became so much clearer when I realized that God wouldn't fry me with a lightening bolt if I dared to question His ways much less His existence.  I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

About the Author After having much financial, business and even spiritual success at a very young age, Jim Ballew experienced a Job-like period in life where he lost his family, home, career and health in a short time.  Some of his own doing, and much unfair and uninvited.   His journey to understand more about "why" bad things happen to good people (and how God's forgiveness brings good things to bad people) has become a life long investigation.  At one time disdaining that "Jesus" was the answer to everything, he now writes (and attempts to live) in continuous communion with Him trying more and more to understand, Isaiah 26:3 which says (AMP):You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You--in both inclination and character],  Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].Of course the word "peace" here is not just tranquility, but shalom - meaning health, prosperity and completeness where nothing is broken or missing.

This is a Christian apologetic book, By mjplatt The title is not a criticism...it's to let folks know the nature of the book, which is unclear from the description. The book is a very short, very shallow presentation of a few of the standard apologetics that have been around for years and years. the author's intent seems to be to denegrate mainstream religious movements and encourage you to essentially form your own religious beliefs and view of a god. In otherwords, everyone will end up with their own individual religion, or version of one. For those wanting a meaty discourse on apologetics, this is not your book. For atheists or agnostics hoping to find new or strong arguments for a god, they are not in this little book. One can easily find strong refutations of the tired hacks presented here. All one needs do is avail one's self of Google or search in books here on Amazon.

There is no doubt..the author is a true believer By Rom Awful, the author starts off with a misleading title, then proceeds to present the worst arguments I have seen in a while. Afraid of scrutinizing your own beliefs so much? Just goes to show, you can't debate a true believer......

Just another indoctrinated individual who states the bible is factual and that is proven by history. Enough said about this fact checker. He is either not very bright or he really thinks that he will lure some unsuspecting nonbeliever into reading this book. Once into the book the nonbeliever will see the " light". Really? Anyone who reads this book and falls for it is beyond help in the first place in my humble opinion. But in my experience, the dishonesty and deception is pretty typical of these folks who are missionaries to we heathens. Their dishonesty is disheartening ( supposedly so religious and all), and their grossly faulty logic is discouraging. One last point, the "author" ends with " he gave you free will." But if you use it to disagree with god, he'll kill you. Great, huh? Moreover, there are many good books, full of logic, that refute the free will treatise. Check them out. Don't waste 99 cents on this one. Donate it to a good cause.

Interesting And Detailed Look At The Laetrile Studies At Sloan-Kettering By David Bennett I have read other books by Ralph Moss, including "The Cancer Industry," and I think he is one of the most sane voices in the alternative medicine discussion. He takes a friendly, yet critical, approach to unorthodox approaches to cancer.This book explains in detail what happened when Sloan-Kettering decided to test laetrile (in reality, the chemical amygdalin; laetrile is its popular name) in the 1970s. When veteran researcher Kanematsu Sugiura found that amygdalin injected at high doses prevented the spread of cancer in lab rats, the research institution began denying and downplaying the positive results. Moss worked for Sloan-Kettering and, along with others, decided to release the positive results to the public over against the official view. For this, he got fired.This book is mainly a detailed defense of Moss' decision to defend Sugiura's results and go public with the suppression. He explains the role of major S-K figures in all of it, and their various levels of support or hostility. He presents them fairly, detailing the close relationships he had with them. In this book, he gets into a lot of the details and personalities. This book is not a rehashing of "The Cancer Industry." I think it is less interesting, because it focuses only on laetrile and not the treatment of other therapies. Nonetheless, I think it is a necessary book to shed as much light on what happened as possible. As a fan of Moss, and myself a critical and friendly supporter of unorthodox medical ideas, I enjoyed reading it.

Review of Doctored Results By Dale Ann O'Neal Doctored Results, written by Dr. Ralph Moss (2014), provides an informative, well documented, and historical perspective involving the major cover-up of the controversial anti-cancer drug, laetrile. The book chronicles the steps taken at a major health care facility to investigate the effects of laetrile, the key scientists involved in the research, and the subsequent attempts to suppress positive findings. Dr. Moss makes a compelling case that a highly respected and reliable Japanese scientist, through multiple replicated research studies, found that laetrile had a profound effect on inhibiting metastases and also enhanced the well-being and overall feeling of health in animal studies. The scientist was discredited and criticized for the unexpected promising results, and the medical establishment denounced the efficacy of laetrile as a treatment for cancer, thus preventing the progression of research to clinical trials in humans.Dr. Moss’s educational background in the Classics, combined with his career as a medical journalist, are reflected in the depth of his critical thinking skills, his ability to describe the scientific method, and his emphasis on integrity and evidence-based research findings. His writing style is both technical and sophisticated, and at the same time, presented in a captivating manner that can be appreciated by highly educated health professionals and understood by members of the general public who are interested in exploring the potential of unconventional treatments.The reader is left with the intellectual desire to know more. A leading cancer hospital / medical center exposed for deliberating lying about a very promising low cost drug treatment By Ben Serebin An insider to a leading cancer hospital exposes and provides us with a real wake-up call that this nationally acclaimed medical center in NY would lie to the public and work so hard to prevent a low cost and successful treatment from reaching the public. Knowing this happened, really indicates there is no limit to the levels the government (e.g. FDA, NIH, NCI), industry organizations (e.g. Sloan-Kettering), and most likely large pharma would go to. I read this book after seeing the smoking gun documentary (Second Opinion) about the cover-up and deceit surrounding laetrile in the 70's at Sloan-Kettering (yes, the Sloan-Kettering in NYC). So frustrating that this low cost successful drug treatment was most likely banned due to it's inexpensive cost. Outrageous.
