San Francisco, 1971: hippies in the streets, music and revolution in the air. The evening Marek Sumner opened his door to the wild-looking Felicity Powers, he knew nothing would ever be the same again. But even love and passion couldn’t keep them together. Forty-three years later, having lived in the world’s most dangerous places as a foreign aid worker, Felicity is back, still offering him love, passion, and adventure. But why would Marek risk having his heart broken a second time? Now a well-known author, he loves his calm, solitary life in an isolated farmhouse. He and Felicity are just too different; their relationship could never work. But Felicity is just as fascinating and joyful as ever, and that wonderful sexy magic is still there too. As for love, perhaps it’s even deeper and more delightful the second time around.

Review Reviewed by Janelle Fila for Readers' Favorite Felicity's Power by J. Arlene Culiner is a contemporary romance with an older hero and heroine, and asks the question, what happens when you come face to face with an old lover many years later? Marek Sumner and Felicity Powers were drawn to each other and responded with a hot and heavy romance. But they had their differences. Felicity wanted a life full of adventure. Marek wanted something more stable. Unfortunately passion wasn't enough to keep the pair together. Years later, the pair reunites and rekindles their passion for one another (that really never left). While Felicity wants to give the relationship a try, Marek is gun shy. He's still looking for stability and quiet and Felicity is still outgoing and adventurous. Can years change the fact that they are not compatible? It is up to Felicity to use her second chance to prove to Marek that their love is worth fighting for. I love the idea of stories that showcase old loves. Seeing parallel ages of characters is always interesting, too, since you get to see a wide development that isn't often found in other stories. This is a unique romance, though, in the fact that the characters are older. Most readers are expecting a young love, that is attractive and fresh and exciting. The idea of an older love can be so much more satisfying, thinking about what the characters gave up over the years, but some readers may have a hard time getting past the ages of those in the current romance.

The first is posted for A Swan’s Sweet Song, and I liked it very much By Cary Morgan Frates First, I want to let everyone know that I was asked to honestly review two books by author J. Arlene Culiner. The first is posted for A Swan’s Sweet Song, and I liked it very much. The second, for Felicity’s Power, was not posted because I believe it serves no purpose to post a bad review. There are trolls everywhere and they seem to have no earthly purpose other than to hurt. I did, however, let the author know why I feel the way I do about this book, and she has asked me to publish my feelings anyway, as an honest, and perhaps interesting counterpoint. So here is the gist of what I said (beware, this may contain some spoiler info) ~I also read Felicity's Power and ran into a few issues, mostly my own. Honestly, I think a dyed in the wool 60's feminist would have no issues with any of it. The writing was fine, but I must admit to a very strong anti-sixties bias, so I knew going in the mere subject would be a concern with me. Nevertheless, I read lots of stuff that isn't "me" and can still recognize if it’s a good story or not. With FP, the frequent flashbacks did become a distraction, but even that wasn't truly my problem. It boiled down to: I liked the hero, I didn't like the heroine. She came across to me as pushy, self-centered, her way or the highway. I kept thinking they'd both get to a place where they could meet in the middle. Alas, as I read it, there was no half way. He capitulates 100%, so she never has to learn the fine art of compromise.I don't give bad reviews because I feel very strongly that they accomplish nothing. Also, I can't give this a bad review, because the writing is good (the author definitely got a rise out of me!) - I just can't get past my personal dislike for Felicity. My advice? Check it out. If you like the 60’s, then you’ll probably love it. If you have nothing in particular against the 60’s, you’ll probably love it.

It’s the first time I’ve read one where the two main characters are not of the young set. In this read Felicity and Marek were both in their sixties and that I appreciated from this author. I do tire of reading of just young love in every book I read. This book gives a fresh new outlook on the seasoned age finding love again in the later years of life. Naturally the author tells the story of younger days and their falling in love but ends with their finding each other again later in life.Felicity Powers is from a prominent New York family, raised with a nice home, family, the best of clothes, and the typical stereotyped New York life. But this gal is an adventurer; she can’t stand to be cooped up in a hum drum life. After college she hits the skies and travels from country to country working as a Foreign Aid worker helping those in need. This is her life, her calling, but she can never forget Marek, her young college love. You see, from the moment their eyes met she was in love with this young writer. Their love was filled with hard times yes, but does that really matter so much when you’re in love, especially in those college years. They endured, they verbally sparred with one another, and they passionately loved. Was it just lust or maybe just the thrill that drew them? Or could it be the draw was making love in a garden of roses, living on the edge without a penny between the two of them. Taking road trips in a broken down clunker POS car that needed constant tinkering to keep them on the road, running for adventure on their own love with not a care in the world. Ahhh, young love, do you remember those days? I do!Marek Sumner a young literature major with big dreams, coming from a very poor California family Marek has only known poverty in his life. A dead beat father and an old school mother that wouldn’t take her son and leave the broken down shack they called home. Marek being raised near the shore grew up with typical little boy fantasies, you know, pirates and ships, creatures of the sea. But as he grows up his dreams are full of the written words of his imagination. He meets Felicity Powers in college, a young girl full of excitement, beautiful sexy and sassy. They have their young love and then go their separate ways. Her to the world of the jet setter traveler searching out countries in need of aid and he to the imagination and becoming a well know author and public speaker. But like Felicity, Marek never forgot the love they shared, could never get her out of his dreams. Both marry along their life path and both ending in divorce but after 40 years of separation they find each other again. Is the spark still there? Can they actually rekindle that old flame they once shared so passionately? Do they really want to give up their comfortable way of life to take another chance so late in their lives? Does love come again you know, do we get a second chance at true love? These are questions some of us ask ourselves every day, can life be that kind to our forlorn hearts? Can we find true love when we get older, or are we smart enough to know better or dumb enough not to step out and take the chance? Hmmm, only time will give us that answer I suppose. This book was a little hard for me to get into at first, but I think it was just me. It goes back and forth somewhat between the young Felicity and Marek to the old so you have to pay attention to what you’re reading. But the author keeps on with the story and brings it all together reinforcing our doubtful belief that love can come around again for some especially if you’re a romantic at heart which both of these characters are.The editing was good as there were only a couple places in the text that left out a word here and there, but the story itself was enlightening and invigorating. To read a story like this it takes you back to your younger days. It will make you remember being young and stupid with not a care in the world but going through life learning our own distinct life lessons and hopefully gaining knowledge from those lessons. And then fate maybe brings us a new love and in this books’ case an old love found. It will give you hope for the future for us readers living a single existence and I think that this is what this author is trying to get across in our think skulls. There is hope in life, don’t give up on our dreams of finding that very special someone for us to share our golden years with. A companion, lover and friend. I just hope in my case he’s sexy hot with some good stamina. You know the cover model types. Yea right huh!I would recommend this book especially to the older seasoned readers. I don’t know that the younger set would enjoy it but some might. Being that I’m not a young pup any longer I could relate to the possible fear in our minds and the excruciating pain that would come from a new love or even an old one that couldn’t become that bright flame in our lives that would maybe leave us with a broken heart. It’s hard to forget how that pain can be so extremely hard to overcome and the big question, do I really want to go through that again. Do I want to even take the chance? I think we have to take the chance, if we don’t who knows what we might be missing. Give fate and life the opportunity to show us that we can find love even in our later years. I hate to say old, I’m not old, I’m seasoned. So my thumbs up to this author for writing a story of rekindled love for us older farts. For making us to open our minds and hearts to the possibilities that life can still bring our way. Hey were not dead yet, we take God’s giving breath of life everyday through all our struggles and hard lessons of life we still continue to take step after step through life so why not open our hearts to the possibilities of love and a healthy sex life again.

My taste is mainly SF, fantasy and paranormal romance, but I also love suspense and, and there was plenty of that in this book, mainly concerned with whether these two bright souls, who seemed so perfect for each other, yet so different, would ever come together. When I do read a contemporary romance I can be pretty sure whether I'll love it or hate it, from the first page, and in this case I definitely loved it! It gripped me from the start.I liked both the characters, although I could have smacked them both on occasion, when neither of them seemed willing to compromise. However this was also their strength, and if they had capitulated early on they would have been different people and the story would not have been nearly so intriguing. The flashbacks were well done and not intrusive, and the story beautifully written. I was transported back to the early seventies, to songs about flowers in ones hair, and making love not war. A time when somehow the world seemed more innocent and hopeful.J Arlene Culiner has a unique and poetic voice and I kept turning the pages anxious to find out where the story was going to lead me. I found it refreshing that although we first meet the characters when they are very young, the main story takes place over forty years later, when they are both in their sixties. They are reunited after a long separation, and their feelings for each other as just as intense. After all, why should love and passion be the prerogative of the young? I really enjoyed this story and was sorry when it ended - it left me satisfied but still wanting to read on, and that's the highest compliment I can pay any book!
