About the Author Alain Nu’s life-long passion for mysterious and unknown realms was formed in his early childhood. Growing up in San Francisco in the late 1960’s, Alain was exposed to the world of fortunetellers, street performers and other practitioners of the mystery arts. By Daniel Harris Ulin An exceptionally interesting read from the fertile mind of Alain Nu.Mr. Nu is a true legend in the mentalism/mind reading arena, and this book leads the reader into his intriguing world in a highly compelling way. It's quite a journey, I must say. This is a tough book to put down---I challenge you to resist reading another chapter...and another...and another in sequence.Whether you're an amateur/professional mentalist, an aficionado of the art form, or a complete newbie, you'll find "State of Mind" utterly fascinating..Highly recommended.

By Amazon Customer State of Mind is a wonderfully fun and informative romp through the intersecting worlds of magic, mysticism, positive thinking, manifestation, ghosts, qi gong, and more. If you've ever had that feeling that there's more power in your mind than polite society would lead you to believe, you'll love this book. If you want to know what happens when a skeptic hangs out with tv's most popular ghost hunters and their new-fangled ghost-finding gadgets, this book will not disappoint you. If you want to read an exclusive and fascinating interview with the ever enigmatic Uri Geller, you'll find it here. If you want to hear the latest on the still fantastically mysterious and extraordinarily effective placebo effect, State of Mind has that, too. Alain Nu covers so much ground that it almost feels like a sleight of hand that he was able to fit all he did in only 318 pages.I'm certainly not aware of a better intro to so many facets of the mind's surprising powers and their relations to strange phenomena. On top of that, Nu is a practicing mentalist/magician, so he naturally comes from a much more skeptical (and less gullible!) place than most authors who delve into these realms. What you get as a result is a much more even-handed treatment of mysterious phenomena than your standard New Age foray; and, what's more, State of Mind contains a handful of actual mentalist routines that you can use to amaze your friends and colleagues.There's something for everyone here, really, and while I've never seen Nu's act (he used to headline at Ceasar's and had a show on TLC), I really want to now.I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It will leave you feeling more positive, more open-minded, more wonder-filled; and, if you're willing to try out the techniques he suggests, you can spread those qualities yourself.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A thoughtful journey By Chris Alain Nu's book, State of Mind, is a thoughtful journey through the concepts of "mind over matter." On the way he provides a lot of interesting information and food for real thought while leaving room for the reader to draw their own conclusions about the material. He begins by exploring well established phenomena such as the placebo affect. As one goes deeper into the book he goes deeper into possibilities, exploring concepts such as meditation, visualization, divination, and other ideas that some may consider a little far out. Nu provides a lot of personal experiences and stresses that many of these things are experiential in nature. To that end he provides many suggestions for how to not just think about these things but to explore and experiment with them and encourages the reader to not simply think about the subject but to try it all out. The section on gadgets is especially interesting. Whether you consider yourself a skeptic or a seeker there is something to ponder. If you take the time to explore the questions and exercise provided you may gain some experiences of your own.
