The book takes you with Katie on her journey from cosy family life in London to sunny (too hot) Sydney, where nothing and no-one is quite as she expects, including herself. It's a fun read, sometimes sad, and always entertaining.Kendra Smith has captured the real Northern Beaches in Sydney, it's beauty, beaches, dangers and the strange Aussies that live there. Oh, and yes there are dangers, everywhere!

Great characters that I could well imagine as being friends of mine! I laughed and cried with, and for, the characters and their predicaments as I read the entire book in a day! Her tales of kids' names and toy trends struck a chord with me. As a former employee of an elementary school, I could identify with the highs and lows throughout the academic year. This book had me nodding my head in agreement and laughing out loud. Mrs. Gardner truly is just shy of sainthood. The book is well written and eye opening.

Carrie Malinowski takes you on a wild field trip inside the angst of a teacher's heart, where one by one, you'll meet the kids she's always dreamed of teaching. And some she never thought would be in her classroom. Like The Sleaze, "Wanna have sex at recess?" Or The Goat who eats all his Kleenex. And hers. Or The Naked Screamer who barricades herself in the bathroom and needs constant supervision and detailed documentation while Mrs. M keeps track of her and 28 other children. You will gasp at how much Mrs. M spends on classroom supplies, how alternately mean and noble parents can be and how children come to school knowing their "rights" long before they learn to read.You will laugh, you will cry and you will rejoice as Mrs. M. gains in wisdom and skill, and you will fall in love with her right along with her kids when she reads Timmy Mouse on the last day of school.I was a special educator at all levels, including administration, for 34 years and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Carrie has captured the experience of teaching in a way that is both enlightening, shocking, and touching. Clearly, she has a great sense of humor. It comes through in her writing and in her seeming ability to keep her sanity in what sounds like a maddening position. I have never been a teacher. But I am a parent. I suggested that my daughter read this book as she has one child in elementary school and another one with a few years before that. I feel every parent will gain a lot of understanding and compassion for those who teach their children. I had no idea what types of situations a teacher is expected to deal with on a daily basis, or that they are expected to spend thousands of dollars of their own money on classroom supplies. Eye opening is a good way to describe this book. Kudos to you Carrie for presenting your experience in such an honest and engaging manner.

Through the lives of four newly divorced women, Leslie Lehr explores the themes of love, loss, friendship and new beginnings in a humourous, yet thoughtful way. This novel engaged me from the start and I thought the action moved at a good pace throughout. The author doesn't sugar-coat the painful realities and challenges of divorce or single parenting, but shows us how, through humour and supportive relationships, women can find the inner resilience to survive endings and make fresh starts. Entertaining, inspiring and hopeful.

I wasn't disappointed - there turned out to be something clever and edgy on every page, but the book was also very insightful about breakups and life after divorce. Highly recommended if you're looking for an entertaining book about women, friendship, ending bad relationships and creating better ones.

I think I've met some of the characters in the book. Although I have no experience with heartbreak, divorce, and single parenting I do find this book to be very interesting and filled with great stories. Also discussed the culture in the cities he traveled through which helped me to understand the environment he was in. Explained his writings in chronological order and how they built on his previous writings. Also how they related to where he was in his travels interactions with governments and criticizers.

I was hesitant about buying it due to the subject matter of domestic violence, but I've bought all of Jackie Chanel's books so I bought this one. I really enjoyed this book and the showcasing of solidarity of friendship amongst the girls and I loved how this book showed or more so went into the mind of an abused woman. Eve's character was a strong one and with everything that she went through smh yeah I loved her. Chyna well she got on my nerves with how "stupid" she was and the back and forth with Cam she had going on. But as stated earlier this books allows you into the mind of an abused woman and how she thinks and while I didn't agree, you can understand why they stay even if it's wrong. This book stressed the importance of how you can't tell/make someone leave someone they aren't ready to leave. You can only be there for them if they are fortunate enough to live long enough to become fed up and leave. Now I didn't like the ending of this book and what happen with ________ I felt like what happened shouldn't have happened especially because of Chloe. But other than the ending this book was well worth the money and time even with the ending so in my overall opinion I say get this book.

It's a very realistic portrayal of all sides of domestic violence, and ultimately the damage it leaves in it's wake. I appreciate how Jackie Chanel manages to continually introduce us to new characters while maintaining the connection to ones we've met in previous works.Of all her books this was the fastest read, because I just couldn't put it down. There's fun here, but most of all real feelings, relationships, and stories anyone can relate to because we've all either been there or know someone who has.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A hard story to read, but an important story to be told. By Christy This story begins and ends with Dorothy's faith and her love of the Lord. It is both heartbreaking and encouraging. From her exposure to domestic violence as a child until she found herself in a similar relationship as an adult, Dorothy shares the secrets and shame that the abused suffers, usually in silence. This inspiring story offers hope and encouragement to those seeking a way out of an abusive environment. It is beautifully and courageously told, dealing with her mistakes and missteps in an honest and humble fashion. This is not a tell all story about a former NFL player. Neither is it an angry or vengeful tale of an ex-wife. It is a loving and forgiving story of a daughter, a wife, a mother, and a child of God who seeks to put Him first in her life, even when that life is very hard.

Abuse, Betrayal, and Triumphant Faith By Raynee Johnson This book is incredibly sensitive to women who may find themselves or know someone stuck in a violent relationship. Not only does the story describe just how easy it is for generations of abuse to continue in families, the writer gives practical, real-life ways of helping yourself or someone you suspect might be caught up in relationship violence. I appreciated that Ms. Newton told her story in a way that does not traumatize the reader by sensationalizing the details of abuse, yet she gets the message across loud and clear: relationship violence is a terrifying, horrifying, painful, lonely experience that no one deserves. No matter what that person did, the choices they made, or continue to make, nobody deserves to be violated in the context of marriage, family, or otherwise. I came away from this story feeling armed with reliable information that I could use to help others, and I also felt more certain of God's grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Ms. Newton illustrated so sincerely that getting to the point of total surrender to the will of God may feel like death itself but that faith in God is salvation. Her life's foundation is apparently Christ, evident by a faith that, although severely tried, has come forth as gold- valuable and effective. I would recommend this book to believers and non-believers alike because in my line of work I recognize that relationship violence is no respecter of persons-- it transcends every racial, religious, and socioeconomic boundary. Read the book to better understand why women stay in violent relationships and why men abuse the women they claim to love. Warning- you will likely be as incredulous and offended as I reading about the response from others when Ms. Newton attempted to reach out for help. There is a section of the book where the former NFL player who abused Ms. Newton speaks (fascinating!), another section where her children give voice to their experiences (they love their mom so much!), and sections on what to do if you are trapped in relationship violence or suspect someone you know is being abused. One of the most powerful lines in the book to me, among so many, was in reference to being non-judgmental of women stuck in relationship violence: "It is easy to say what you would do or what she should do, but you are not the one suffering the abuse. If you were, you might see things less clearly." That's truth right there.

An autobiography that tells of abuse that is mentally and physically. Dorothy tells about her childhood and how her father abused her mother and how Dorothy was never going to get into a relationship where abuse was. Dorothy was/is a very intellect person. She stayed so very close to God, because He is the only one Dorothy could trust to not hurt her or leave her. Dorothy was the first one in her family to graduate college and become a woman who could support herself. She didn’t want to end up like her mother staying in a relationship because she didn’t have any money or anyone to go to, to get away from an abusive relationship. Then Dorothy met Nate Newton famous superstar football player for the Dallas Cowboys. Things were fine for a while and Dorothy gave up her job and depended on Nate. Then he started abusing her and the cycle started all over again. In Silent Cry Dorothy tells about the things she went through and how she never would have made it if she didn’t have the Lord in her life. Besides the physical, emotional abuse Dorothy put up with a cheating, lying husband and stood by him in all things. She reported Nate’s behavior several times, but him being a superstar no one would believe her or take her side. She stayed until she feared for her life and what it would do to their sons if she stayed. Read this book of incredible faith and how Dorothy made a new life for herself. She now helps other people in the same situation she was in. A very extraordinary book. Highly recommended.I received my free copy from Net Galley for my review. And that's what is provided here, down to the detail in all aspects of your life and belongings AND information trails (amongst the most valuable/vulnerable)-- about how the criminal-burglar goes about their nefarious 'craft'... if I may call it that.Taking here craft, to Top craft, and all the whistles in between, I am very pleased with this book both for its lucidity, and its simplicity. You won't get over-whelmed: Paul won't let you!

Rebecca McCormick found herself doubting if life would ever be worth living again. Just one month ago she had been a very contented housewife and mother. She had kept busy with her home, her hobbies, helping around the farm, and her community activities. At thirty, she had been so happy. When her children both entered school and her friends encouraged her to work like they were, she chose to stay home and continue life as it had been for the past eleven years.

Her husband, Mike, farmed with his father, and they both enjoyed the quiet life they shared. He was kind, patient, always gentle, and loving. Carrie and Andy, their children, were two years apart in age and great friends. Carrie, a quiet child who loved to read and enjoyed music, was the oldest. Andy was very active and extremely curious about everything in his world. Both did well in school and were well liked.

Around four-thirty, Mike and the kids had gone into town for a video movie. Their little ones were chatting excitedly about which film to choose.

This is how Rebecca would always remember them. They were gone now, all of them, and only she was left to go on.

With Christmas only a week away, Rebecca was miserable. Then, a letter came from Mike's Aunt Edna in Minnesota. Mike had mentioned her a few times during their marriage but she had never met Edna. I read it quickly and immediately reread it. There is so much description of the people, places, homes, situations. Hard to believe this is her first book. I am anxiously waiting for her next book.

Very scholarly and thorough history of mental healing in all its many forms By karl melanson A bit tedious reading but containing much interesting history and insights into healing methods from ancient cultures to modern times. Very thorough and comprehensive. Interesting reading for anyone interested in where we've been in this area of healing.

By Daisy S This is a very detailed read, however, if you want to learn how healing was performed in many ways such as relics, rituals, charms, healers, and so many ways over the past 3,000 years plus, this is the book to consider.For me, I am on a healing journey and also love to study history. This book is just what I was looking for being the history buff that I am. So even though this book went into great detail it was never boring for me.* If you are into history and love to read, I will highly suggest this book for you. If you are looking for a shorter book on more modern day natural healing, this may not be the best book for you.Still for the price paid (0.00), it is a great read!
