By Don Kidwell No doubt this artist could paint some pretty portraits which would explain him being hired by Rockerfeller and Roosevelt, and I really enjoyed the sights of Venice (have to go there one day) but it was the ending portrait "Gassed" showing WW1 men having been blinded by the chemicals used during warfare which I found absolutely gripping and needing no words to describe the horrors of war. Very good book!

At first I thought it was a bit simplistic but I found as I read more that my initial reaction was deceptive. It offers simple ways of exploring what are the driving forces in our life which may not be what we think they are. The way it is written is very accessible and helpful. There are many things of value to be found here but the one that strikes me of most importance is that it offers a totally different way of looking at the problems and joys of life for most people. In seeing them all as equally valuable lessons and embracing it all as part of a life we choose, we are freed to truly experience life more fully. Much of the understanding and perspective that is expressed here has been learned in her own experiences as well as those of her clients doing past life and Life-Between-Lives regressions. My husband and I have done two LBL's each with Nancy which we have found to be very enlightening and life-changing. What we learned in these sessions and what has been published in the LBL literature makes so much sense to me and has had a profound influence on how I live my life and how I view death. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring the "whys" of their lives or those who are seeking a basic introduction to past life or Life-Between-Lives regression experiences.

By Paula R I've taken some time to formulate my thoughts regarding Dianne Kozdrey Bunnell's emotionally intriguing book.The story brought up issues for me. Having been involved in a "Born Again" fundamentalist church as an adult, and having been an abused child on top of it, I immediately recognized the "power over" exploitation by those who were supposed to be mentors and protectors but weren't; and what that exploitation did to my self confidence, self esteem, and ability to choose wisely. Therefore, the story line is understandable to me, but becomes somewhat unbelievable regarding the extreme extent of the occurrences of exploitation, all perpetrated against the antagonist, Janey. I felt that she didn't have any skill at introspection, and that she just didn't get it at times. She wasn't careful enough.But then, after reading the very end, and the Appendixes, I realized that the story, although based in fact for the most part, was a kind of medley of, not only the author's experience, but of many peoples experience with PAS. The explanation to her students, at the end, pretty much said it all. It did however, over explain the symbolism. It brought it into black/white perspective and would have been better if it were more subtle....or perhaps even left out, so as to let the reader come to their own conclusions. I think, if you have to explain your symbolism, then was it apparent at all?The writing--style and language--was exceptional. However, again, some of the "beautiful" prose was out of place almost. Some of the sentences were unduly complex and unnecessarily descriptive...perhaps a bit of English Major flaunting of word usage? I should clarify....I just noticed it, I didn't necessarily dislike it.All-in-all, the book held my interest, provoked strong emotion, and I identified with the serious question of how the Christian experience, in our time, has become so very commercialized and even militarized.

Bartley Dianne Kozdrey Bunnell's powerful novel "The Protest" tells the timely tale of religion gone awry, of religious authority wielded with the intent to manipulate, to isolate, to alienate and, finally, to destroy. Through inspired characters, rich dialogue and unrelenting suspense, "The Protest" chronicles the lives of one family literally torn apart by "Christianity."Ultimately however, Bunnell's story is a hopeful one of survival and resurrection and of the triumph of deed over word. "The Protest" is an important book in a critical time: I would highly recommend it to all concerned by the abuse and misuse of authority and power, religious and political, to create fear and destroy the opposition.

Dianne Kozdrey Bunnell’s fictional memoir is a riveting tale superbly told about the lengths to which a mother’s love will go, as Janey strives to save her daughters from their father. I was alternately laughing and horrified as I read into the night, unable to put it down. It is a terrifyingly credible novel of what can happen when religion is used for personal power, and the manipulation of the lives of innocent children hangs in the balance. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves beautiful language, compelling characters, and a gripping read.

Besides writing poetry, she’s enjoyed many creative pursuits through the years, some of which are painting, pottery and sculpture, designing jewelry, and teaching wire wrapping and weaving. While in Arizona she also spent time camping, hiking, and swimming; and together with her husband of nearly 56 years, traveling the United States - exploring many of the National Parks. Barbara is an avid reader and puzzle-book aficionado, which in turn, some claim, has turned her into a walking thesaurus. She now spends most mornings as the editor of her daughter’s novels, for which she is paid exorbitant amounts of coffee. In the future, she plans to co-author a novel with said daughter, and one day hopes to revisit her beloved Arizona.

Helped to know that you are not alone and that the patients symptoms are not unique. Reason I only gave it a 3 was that I had wished it were longer. Their was more I wanted to know.

A perfect book for someone who wants to learn to pray -- or wants to begin again. Which means nearly all of us. I devoured it in two sittings, and will now read it again, probably one chapter at a time. Metropolitan Hilarion begins by communicating the essence of prayer with his usual lucid prose, and then gently delves into the rich Orthodox tradition of Christian prayer without ever losing sight of that essence.

Beautifully written! Really gets to the heart of prayer for those of us living in the world. As a companion to this book, consider "Acquiring the Mind of Christ" by Archimandrite Sergius. Both of these small books are excellent primers for the spiritual life--what the believer is to do. Very practical.

By Reni ~ Inked in Chapters When it comes to Changing Tides, I have a unique prospective on the subject matter. You see, my dad is gay. Because of that, I come to this story a bit bias. In Kill Devil Hills, Ellie – the heroine in this tale – is a lesbian. She’s NEVER been into men. At all. Ever. That made it hard for me to switch gears and really accept the fact that Ellie magically shed her gay-ness (That sounds wrong, but you get the point.) for this random, massively huge, alpha male celeb (Nate West... Nathaniel). It just didn’t sit right with me. Is it possible? Sure, anything is possible. Is it probable? No. My dad suffered in silence for years because he didn’t want to be gay. He’s been left nasty messages and called names I’d never repeat. It’s not easy to just up and magically become bi, or even less likely, straight.“So it doesn’t matter to me if he’s a man or woman or a purple alien, and it shouldn’t matter to you – as long as he makes you happy. That’s all that’s important in any relationship.”My life tainted this story. It made the words almost upsetting to me, and yet, I sincerely enjoyed the characters. I know in my heart of hearts that Sarah would NEVER intentionally write something that would rub me the wrong way. It’s a work of fiction. I just found it hard to read after living through what I have, after seeing what my own flesh and blood had gone through because of his sexual preference. On the other hand, it was interesting to see Ellie work through her feelings. Instead of being confused and concerned about her feelings for the same sex, she felt uncomfortable with her feelings for one man.I just want to take a moment to emphasize that love is love. If Ellie loves another woman - wonderful. If she’s into a man - super. LOVE is LOVE.All-in-all. Changing Tides was a pretty good read. There wasn’t much angst in this story, but I will say this… I KNEW IT! If you read the first book, Kill Devil Hills, you can guess what I mean by that. But dude, this is a cliffy. Like most people, I am not overly fond of being left hanging. I’m anxious to see what Sarah does with the next book, and how Ellie and Nathaniel’s relationship plays out. It’s an intriguing dynamic.

By Confessions of a YA & NA Book Addict Ellie wasn't the only one who ended up confused in this book by her sudden attraction to a man, especially when she's never been sexually attracted to one before. This confusion overshadowed everything else and I'm not really sure how to rate this book or what else to talk about. It left me with more questions than it answered.Here goes. I loved Ellie in Kill Devil Hills. I loved her in this book too. She's dealing with a discovery that changed her family permanently and wasn't easy for them to recover from. That something that could be devastating again and she's trying to protect her family while trying to figure out why things happened the way they did. I liked Nate West too. He maybe a Hollywood superstar, but he's blunt, honest, and he wants Ellie. Of course since Ellie is a die-hard lesbian it makes things interesting.I was intrigued when Ellie returned Nate's interest in her. I understand curiosity and even being attracted to someone when not expecting it. They were certainly attracted and intrigued by each other and they may or may not have acted on it. My confusion arose from the fact Ellie's sexuality seemed fluid. There was no real declaration or statement about whether her sexual orientation had changed or stayed the same.Now this is a very tricky topic, especially since people's beliefs differ widely. This story, like the characters is also complex. It seems to me, regardless of how exciting and different this story is, definition is missing. I feel like there are too many loose ends, not just with Nate and Ellie, but what's going on at home with Georgina and Nate, and other members of their family. Sarah Darlington has raised some big questions with this book, but hasn't really answered them. I'm hoping the next book will do so.

Her brother dying made the last year even harder. When Ellie finds out the truth her whole world changes. She also find herself suddenly attracted to a man she meets on a plane. Her whole life is changing and she doesn't know what is true anymore.    Nate West is a popular actor on a popular show. He is instantaneously attracted to Ellie. The fact she tells him she is a lesbian is only a minor setback. He wants her and he can tell she wants him too. He might get more surprises with Ellie than he is used to. She truly is a original.     I have read the first book in this series and fell in love with Noah. I like Nathaniel and Ellie also. Ellie is brutally honest and has a huge heart. She seems to adopt people and bring them home. Having a hot actor in your bed is brownie points.

There wasn't enough written to conclude that they loved each other and that they trusted each other. And not enough history about him being a shifter. Hard to think he was the only shifter. This story has a lot of potential but that's not enough to make it good as it is right now. Makes me want to re-write the whole thing so there is an actual complete story.

Highly Recommended By Amazon Customer What I like best about this book is that the author makes a few awesome points about the mindset and how it evolved over time in regards to money and the accumulation of wealth. For those of you who love facts and figures, this book is for you.As you progress through the book, the author gives you solid examples of how you make your own fate and shape your destiny. Even though I agree with most of what this book is about, I disagree with SMART goal. I believe in being radical and thinking way outside the box and seeing how you can make things that you don’t know how possible for you.

By Allyn I think this books title was a bit mis-leading, it isn't only about how to make money, online or otherwise, but a very well written exploration of how we think, how the richer class thinks and operates and how our mindset effects our goals. I felt like this was a why we fail 101 class and how not to fail 102 follow up. The author clearly is well researched, the book is expertly written and the information priceless. Well done! I recommend this to anyone who needs a tweak in how to see the way things work, and how to do better for yourself.

About the Author

James H. Kleiger, PsyD, ABPP, ABAP, is a diplomate in clinical and assessment psychology and Fellow in the Society for Personality Assessment. Dr. Kleiger is a practicing psychologist and psychoanalyst in Bethesda, MD. He is past President of the Baltimore Washington Society for Psychoanalysis and previously the Director of the Postdoctoral Psychology Training Program at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, KS. He is the author of Disordered Thinking and the Rorschach (The Analytic Press, 1999), along with numerous papers, book chapters, and presentations on assessing thought disorder and psychosis, psychotherapy, and psychoanalytic perspectives of psychological assessment.

Ali Khadivi, PhD, is Associate Chairman for Clinical Care, Evaluation and Research, Department of Psychiatry, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, and an associate professor of clinical psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A Fellow in the Society for Personality Assessment, Dr. Khadivi is an assessment psychologist, teacher, consultant, supervisor, and lecturer who has written and presented extensively on the topic of assessment of psychosis and severe mental illness. He maintains a clinical and forensic psychology practice in New York City.

An excellent resource for clinicians in any setting By Sean Condon, Ph.D. One would think that—after more than a century of clinical inquiry and research—we would know psychosis when we see it. It turns out that it’s not that simple. Drs. Kleiger and Khadivi take a comprehensive look at this multifaceted clinical challenge, bring together the state of the art in contemporary research and ideas, and demystify psychotic processes and experiences in clear and straightforward language.The book is full of practical guidance, but is not just a handbook: it helps clinicians conceptualize complex psychotic symptoms more clearly and better understand their human impact. While Kleiger and Khadivi cover the DSM 5 diagnostic framework in considerable detail, they also go beyond the technical aspects of diagnosis to explain the evolution of thinking about psychosis within psychiatry at large. In addition, they directly tackle the numerous challenges psychotic symptoms present in actual clinical practice, such as identifying high-risk patients, assessing symptoms in culturally diverse populations, gauging suicide and violence potential, and understanding psychotic presentations in children and adolescents.I rarely see full-blown psychosis in my current practice, but nevertheless found this book to be an invaluable resource. All clinicians are wise to be mindful of the full range of human functioning, and to be cognizant of the subthreshold psychotic symptoms and their correlates that can arise in the personality, substance use, and mood and anxiety disorders we frequently encounter. “Assessing Psychosis” offers long-overdue reassessment of this critical topic, and provides insights that can help any clinician understand his or her own patients with greater clarity and sensitivity.

By Margy Bookman As a Psychiatric APRN, I was delighted to find this outstanding reference and very applicable book on the complex topic of psychosis. It is not a dry textbook type manual, on the contrary, the vignettes presented in the beginning of the book will capture the attention of clinicians that have been perplexed by these patients and responsible to make a clear diagnosis and treatment plan. This has been extremely helpful in my clinical practice that I refer to frequently. The book is very well written and clearly supported by research. I feel fortunate to have discovered this excellent resource.

The authors take the reader through primary definitions, historical concepts, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic assessments of psychosis, including the most recent DSM-5 criteria. For the seasoned clinician, this little book provides a comprehensive update on the current thinking of psychotic illnesses. For the student or early career practitioner, it will serve as an invaluable primer on how to assess and think about psychosis when approaching every patient. I highly recommend it.

About the Author An author who has had many stories published in the women's weekly magazines and literary journals, John was drawn to writing at an early age. At one time in his teenage years he was reading one book a day---the subject didn't matter, but it needed to grab his interest in the first couple of pages, or he would abandon it. And this is the rule he has since applied to all his writing, believing that if you haven't grabbed the reader straight away, you are not writing well enough.. After graduating with an Honours Degree in History he spent many years in academic publishing, at last leaving to pursue his long-held dream of becoming a writer. "Easily among the very best new writers we have seen", "fresh and original", "creates life-like characters---maybe too life-like" (whatever that means!), are some of the comments made by literary reviewers and consultants about his work. His favorite band is The Moody Blues, and CAKE.

Every story is different which makes it an enjoyable read. Even though they are short stories John manages to include a beginning, middle and an end which is very important in all stories. John also makes sure that every story is complete and none are left on cliff-hangers that I personally find annoying.I like these stories because they are short and can be read quickly. John has managed to create suspense in all these stories and just like in his other work he has managed to create an unexpected twist to the ending. Overall a good read.I received my copy of "Scary Stories for Women Volume Two" from the author for my honest review.

The books are a collection of short stories. These stories aren't really 'scary' but they are suspensful. Whatever you might call them, they are well written. They are good. They are complete. They have a beginning and an end which is important to me. I really hate for an author to leave me hanging. Especially if there are many unanswered questions. Well, you will find none of that in Mr. Smith's 'Scary' and 'Wacky' books. I had a tough time putting the kindle away.There are a few errors in the books, but not many. Not enough to be distracting.I hope Mr. Smith never stops writing these kind of books.
