About the Author Ami Hays’s first daughter, Abigail, was born in 2006 with Type C TEF, several internal defects, and a genetic disorder. What should have been a milestone, Abigail learning to eat, was a difficult challenge no one around her could relate to, including herself. As Abigail began to learn to talk she knew she had eating restrictions and needed to be safe, but it was difficult for Ami to find the words to explain to her at the young age “who she was” inside. So she wrote a book.

Also, the page about food I found interesting as it lists chicken nuggets as a food she can eat when this was a food specifically pointed out as dangerous to my son after his repair. Very poor illustrations and overly simplistic story that I did not find useful or helpful. Returning it as soon as o can print the label.

I think this book is not only excellent for children to know being different is ok but it also gives a fundamental explanation of the condition for adults to understand as well.

Very sweet educational book explaining EA/TEF to young children By COinc This is a very sweet educational book desgined to explain EA/TEF to young children, through the main character, Abigail. It is written in short and simple to understand sentences which, is prefect for young children. Kids often have a lot of questions about their condition (or about an EA kid they might know) but it can be difficult for parents to find the right words. This book was especially great for my family because my EA/TEF child also has a sister and they both loved to read about how Abigail and her sister are similar but also about how they are different, just like them! The illustrations are inviting and my daughter enjoyed seeing a character just like her! This is a wonderful tool for EA children and their sibling as well! Non EA families would enjoy it too!
