Give it a try! ----Kara Leigh Miller, US reviewer at www.karaleighmiller.com "As I read this delightful book, I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of the players and at my own flawed flow of thought. Of course, now my husband and kids no longer suspect of my sanity....they know with certainty that I'm nuts. If you're looking for a few tales that will make you think and make you laugh, Wacky Stories is the book for you." ----Melodee Aaron, US best-selling author of over 600 books, melodeeaaron.com Comment from beta reader: "Whichever way you twist it, you'll never guess the twist". About the Author An author who has had many stories published in the women's weekly magazines and literary journals, John was drawn to writing at an early age. At one time in his teenage years he was reading one book a day---the subject didn't matter, but it needed to grab his interest in the first couple of pages, or he would abandon it. And this is the rule he has since applied to all his writing, believing that if you haven't grabbed the reader straight away, you are not writing well enough.. After graduating with an Honours Degree in History he spent many years in academic publishing, at last leaving to pursue his long-held dream of becoming a writer. "Easily among the very best new writers we have seen", "fresh and original", "creates life-like characters---maybe too life-like" (whatever that means!), are some of the comments made by literary reviewers and consultants about his work. His favorite bands are The Moody Blues, and CAKE.

Benson Perhaps the best endorsement I can give this small collection of stories is, that I immediately after writing this review, I will be downloading the next volume in the series. Prior to entering the arena of the novelist I served what I consider a short apprenticeship of a couple of years - writing short stories, so I am fully aware of the pitfalls of getting them not quite right, and the joy of receiving praise for getting them absolutely right. What is absolutely right with John's work? These tales are not the result of ten minutes with a pen - they are the result of a clear plan and then clever execution. This same execution I would suggest, would be followed by a laying-off period for each story, before a final edit. Looking at the quality of the storytelling and the endings, I would hazard that each story is treated to more than merely one edit. These are coffee-time tales written by a man who will only improve on a craft in which he is already skilled. As any writer would, I was away ahead in a couple of cases, but others were sublime in the finishing touch.Personal favourites? 'Too Good To Be True', and 'Living In The Country'.

I for one am willing to read new stuff, and boy am I glad that I read these books by John M.W. Smith. So far I have read one of the Wacky books. These are collections of short stories and they are such a pleasant surprise. I really like each of the stories, they are well written with relatable characters, great plots, complete story lines with good endings. Well done Mr. Smith. I will recommend all of your books to my friends and anyone else that will listen.

By Rudders This is a short collection of eight humorous short stories, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed. The 'twist at the end' in the first four stories are more the sort to make you smile and chuckle rather than gasp in amazement, but every scenario and ending are entirely believable and just the sort of situation that any reader might readily identify with. In the latter stories the twist endings tend to have a bit more 'punch' to them, and the stories steadily become a little more intricate. The author keeps the number of characters to a minimum in each case, and within the obvious confines of a short story, the characters are well developed with convincing and natural dialogue. Each story is written in an easy to read and follow style, yet despite their apparent simplicity, all are actually very clever and well crafted.By the author's own admission, the stories are primarily aimed at a female readership, but the quality of writing and story-telling does I believe give them a much broader appeal. I shall certainly be reading and reviewing the other three volumes in this series.* I bought this book via Amazon.co.uk hence it not appearing here as a verified purchase...
