The detailed intro made me wish I was reading all the sections on health care in different Latin American countries.The 40 or so pages specifically on Guatemala were excellent but I wanted more. There is a detailed political history to set context for anyone who wants to work in Guatemala. Then a bit about the population health status and healthcare landscape in Guatemala. Specifically there was valuable info on childhood malnutrition and diabetes. I would have wished for another 40 pages with more details. Now I will look into the many resources and references in the of this monograph to get more detailed info......

By MTmed I am planning a medical mission trip to Guatemala and figured I would order this book to read on my iPad, just to get a little inside info before my trip. The book provided lots of interesting information and history. It explained various issues related to medications, security and safety, and how the government is working with organizations to help provide safe care for the impoverished people It provided information about drug trafficking, history, partnerships with government, how the health system works, advice on planning your mission, and lots of other helpful information of medical and non medical volunteers headed for Guatemala.
