Edge of your seat, beautifully written prequel to *Love The Way You Lie* By Megan Wilson .THAT..WAS..AMAZING.I couldn't come up for air and often found myself getting mad during *life interruptions* like my 6 year old twins and husband simply speaking to me.*I found this prequel is very interesting, VERY thrilling and beautifully written. It pulled me in at page one! Skye Warren did a great job at describing the main characters life and all that she's dealt with, and also telling me enough about the supporting characters that by the end, I felt as if I knew all of them.* I found myself anxiously turning the pages to see where she would take all of them in the story.*By the end I was on the edge of my seat and more than ready to read *Love The Way You Lie*. Fabulous prequel.*********tini-tiny spoiler quote*********MY Favorite quote:"I can’t stand him looking at me. Not because I don’t want him to see. Quantum Chemistry By Normand Hamel In the introduction the author tells the following anecdote: I will always be grateful to my younger son, Ben, for a comment he made when I was halfway through the first draft, with no end to the project in sight, and assailed by the usual doubts authors have about whether they are wasting their time. He picked up a stack of printout, sat quietly reading it for more than an hour, then turned to his mother with these words: 'I like this book. It's really interesting. Even if you don't understand all the words, it's still like a story book.'Well, that's exactly the kind of book I thought it would be when I started to read "In Search of the Double Helix". And because of the title I thought it was specifically about the story of the discovery made by Francis Crick and James Watson: the identification of the DNA molecule, the so-called molecule of life. But I quickly realized that this fascinating story comprises only one chapter. It is the longest chapter but still covers less than 20% of the book. So I thought it would be useful for potential readers to know the exact content of the book. Here is a summary of what is covered in each chapter.Chapter 1 is a review of Darwin's theory (20 pages).Chapter 2 offers a summary of Mendel's findings (29 pages).Chapter 3 is about sexual reproduction at the cellular level (27 pages).Chapter 4 covers the basic concepts of Quantum Physics (30 pages).Chapter 5 introduces the reader to the basic principles of Quantum Chemistry (26 pages).Chapter 6 explains what Molecular Biology is all about (49 pages).Chapter 7 tells the story of the race to identify the structure of the DNA molecule (63 pages).Chapter 8 presents a survey of the developments that followed the DNA discovery (40 pages).Chapter 9 is dedicated to the subject of jumping genes (26 pages).Chapter 10 gives a summary of the previous chapters (29 pages).In this book John Gribbin tries to make the case that quantum physics is at the heart of DNA. But we could only say so if for example a gene mutation was a pure quantum phenomenon, like say the decay of an atom. But it isn't. The science behind DNA is called molecular biology and it is is based on quantum chemistry principles, which are themselves derived from the laws of quantum physics. In my opinion it would be more appropriate, and less confusing, to say that the science of DNA is based on chemistry. And indeed you will find quite a bit of chemistry in this book.For many readers the most interesting chapter will be the one that tells the story of DNA with Crick and Watson. But after reading other accounts of this story, in for example "The Double Helix" and "The Dark Lady of DNA", I was slightly disappointed. I expected, but did not find, the same clarity as in Gribbin's other books like "In Search of Schrödinger's Cat" and "In Search of the Big Bang", among others. On the other hand I have read in the concluding pages of that chapter the best account of how the discovery was published. Gribbin's view on this is extremely lucid and helped me to better understand what had been going on until the discovery was made.Overall this book is quite heavy on the science. Perhaps unnecessarily so. For at times I had the impression the author was going too deep in various subjects that were not directly related to DNA. But I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone preparing for a career in science.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The most significant book for me in decades-- By Tintinnabulation I stumbled across the book "In Search of the Double Helix" a year ago. I got it from the public library. To me it is so rewarding to go over the material again and again-- each time I gain more. I had to get my own copy. What a treasure! We have gone so far in the understanding of not only evolution, cell microbiology, quantum physics, DNA....yet, we have so much more to go. Before you cash in your chips, get the book "in Search of the Double Helix".

I got to say first that the Addicted Series is my favourite book series of all times!!! I absolutely LOVE all the characters, I ADORE all the stories and i never had a book making me go from laughing super hard to bawling the next.All that being said, I was a bit hesitant with Thrive, once i knew that it would span the same time as Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower so I didn't know what to expect. And I only had one word after i finished: AMAZING!!Since the first book I feel like Lily was a gift given to me by Krista and Becca, and in this book I was so proud of her, of her growth, her building confidence, of her standing up of herself and being there for her sisters. The book opened up with a bang for me because that first scene of Lily saying what she wanted for her 21st birthday had me in fits of laugh!!! Lo also grew leaps and bounds on this one, although the set backs were heartbreaking! ***SPOILER*** The dinner scene at the Calloways by the end of the books were Lo yells that he'll never have babies broke my heart and I cried right along with Lil.After 12 hours of reading Thrive, the end left me feeling like they're finally getting there, to a point that they are strong enough to deal with whatever comes to them in Addicted for Now with minor or no set backs at all. **SPOILER** And I can't wait to meet baby Maxi or baby Luna!!!All I have left to say is: WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE COMING OUT?!?

We see new found strengths in Lily and get torn apart by Lo's desperate battle against self loathing. The characters are as familiar as family yet bring new challenges for one another. Krista and Becca Ritchie are never content with static charcters and once again deliver a dynamic, thought provoking and hypnotic read. In Review: Thrive (Addicted #2.5) by Krista & Becca Ritchie By Kim {kimberlyfaye reads} I've been mulling over what to say about this book without spoiling it, but still doing it justice, since I finished it well over a week ago. I also haven't stopped thinking about these characters and this story since I finished. I think I've got it, but just realize that no matter what I say, I can't possibly make you understand how amazing and powerful this story is.It's been quite awhile since we got a new story focused mainly on Lily and Lo. Sure, they were always in the background (and sometimes foreground) of the spinoff Calloway sisters novels, but I couldn't help but wonder what was happening to them while the other characters took center stage. Well, the answer is A LOT. And that's all I'm going to tell you. Don't fool yourself into thinking that there's not much story untold, even if you've read Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower. Because I can't stress just how wrong you are if you think that. The good, the bad, the ugly. The sweet, the sexy, the heartbreaking. Thrive tells it all.Thrive delves deeper into addiction and all the effects it has on a person and those in their life, but it does it in a way that, while heavy, wasn't unbearable. Yes there were moments that had me in tears, but there were also the little moments that made me laugh and swoon. The Harry Potter references were plentiful and I grinned every time, particularly over "alohomora." I loved each and every single one of the geeky references. Because, let's face it, Lily and Lo are geeks and I effing love them because of it. I love Lily's awkwardness and Lo's raw sexual power. When Lo calls her "love," I melt every single time. Seriously, these two are so OTP it almost hurts me.As was true with every other book in this series, the secondary characters play a huge role. As I've read (and LOVED) both Kiss the Sky and Hothouse Flower, I was fascinated by reading all the events from Lily and Lo's POVs this time. Those two definitely knew a lot more, a lot longer, than anyone thought. I had truthfully forgotten just how much I loved Lily and Lo, as the last books focused on Rose and Connor and Daisy and Ryke. But, they really are the perfect couple. Yes, they're co-dependent almost to a fault, but they make my heart sing when they're together. But, each and every one of these characters, these couples, holds a special place in my heart and I could never, ever pick a favorite. They each bring something so special, so uniquely them, to the table. I can't imagine this series without every single one of them just as they are. Each new installment in their stories gives me more reasons to love them even more than I did after finishing the previous book.I had very, very high expectations for Thrive and they were exceeded. What's a stronger word for exceeded? Because that's what they were. I highlighted about half the book. I couldn't even narrow down my favorite parts to include them in my review. Just know they were plentiful.Earlier today I was writing up a fun survey post and one of the topics was "most recommended books." Clearly the Addicted and Calloway Sisters series hit the list. Like I said on that post, if you're a fan of new adult books with grit and unforgettable characters and you're NOT reading this series yet, you really need to reevaluate your life choices.When I think this series can't possibly get any better, Krista and Becca find a way to blow me away and make me feel things I didn't know I could feel. Then they leave me wanting more. And boy, do I ever want more after finishing Thrive. How long until Addicted to After All...?There are only three books left in this series and I'm already dreading it ending. Regardless of how it all shakes out, it's going to really suck to give these characters up. This is a series I'll be rereading for a very long time to come.

This book is a valuable resource of Laurie's lifetime of teaching. Unlike other more secretive traditions, the Cabot Book of Shadows is open and available to all who seek the wisdom of the Craft. Laurie's straightforward writing style makes the information highly accessible. There is no other volume on witchcraft of which I am aware that is this comprehensive.Unlike many traditions, Laurie's take on witchcraft is based in science. You will learn about Alpha brain waves and how you can readily access your relaxed, subconscious mind, visualizing and projecting your thoughts, leading to their ultimate realization. She teaches you protection, and how to avoid mental traps that lead to backfiring of projections. The art and religion of witchcraft build upon this foundation.Whether you are seeking initiation into the Cabot Tradition, or looking to broaden your knowledge, your investment of time with this book will lead to solid spiritual enrichment.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Worthwhile theory and practice for all witches By Book Wit Very interesting and informative take on witchcraft as a science- and as a literal craft. Gives you pretty much the whole course, including reading list, for initiation into the Cabot tradition. As a solitary, the rituals were essentially a no-go for me, but coveners will probably like the unique take on Wiccan ritual, via an Arthurian bent. The section on being a member of the magical clergy is also refreshing and something I haven't seen very often. The exercises and meditations were instructive and personably related, and I enjoyed the first section's workbook feel. I would recommend this for anyone, beginner or more experienced.

About the Author James E. Whaley, RPh, MS, is currently an associate professor of health sciences andchemistry at Baker College of Owosso (Michigan) and coordinator of the Pharmacy TechnicianProgram, which is offered at nine Baker College campuses. Curious - The Power of A Question Led Life By Michael Taylor "Curious" by Tom Hughes is an excellent read for the person who, instead of wanting to feel like they need to know everything, is instead comfortable with leading and teaching others through questions. As the author notes, Jesus Christ often enlightened people through the use of strategic questioning. The book is around 215 pages and covers such topics as:1. Great leadership knows when to take charge and when to let go.2. With God's help, we can find what we are truly looking for.3. 3 benefits of asking questions.4. Benefits to leading a group by asking questions (since I teach Sunday school lessons and also served as an adjunct faculty at a local community college, I assure you that asking questions leads to much better learning than just spouting out facts or statements).5. Being secure in your identity in Jesus Christ frees you to serve people instead of using them.6. Principles for making wise decisions.7. God can use our struggles and pain to minister to people with similar struggles.8. Importance of living in community with other believers (I do want to add a qualifier - be sure that it's with people that are good for your spiritual development and not for trying to fill a void in your life).9. Do not waste your life on what will not matter in the end.10. 3 regrets to avoid in your life.A great read and will be used often for future reference. Recommended.

In this book, Curious, Tom Hughes tries to impart wisdom into leaders through the journey of leading by asking questions collectively. It is the author's conviction that asking questions helps leaders and leaders-in-training to sift through problems, issues, and circumstances seeking to find the best possible solution rather than the easiest or simplest.Hughes points to Jesus' style of teaching through parables that allowed listeners to ask questions and search for the answers by process of elimination. Tom Hughes packs the book with thought-provoking content that is inspiring and applicable to our everyday lives. He also shares great insights from some stories in the Bible. Each chapter ends with a few helpful questions you can reflect on or share with a group. I'm only two chapters in, but I've already been challenged and inspired. A couple favorite quotes from the book are:"Jesus is the master at leading us with questions. We are obsessed with clarity and answers. He often answers our questions by being intentionally vague.""Unintended pretending is what happens when you act in small or large ways as though you know more than you know, can do more than you can do, or can deliver more than you actually can deliver."I definitely recommend this book for Christian leaders, those who are following Jesus, or those who are curious and wondering what following Jesus is all about.

The main character's (Cissy) story of reconciliation was powerful! Ms. Jada Kaye, did a wonderful job; her words painted a technicolor tale.

72 of 76 people found the following review helpful. Terrible. By Sarah Reisenbeck I have never read any of Fern Michaels' books until now. This book was so bad that I had a hard time finishing it. The beginning was not bad at all, it made you get into the book and it was like a murder mystery. Then all of a sudden,she gets struck by lightning and can read minds!?!? What!? How ridiculous is that!? Okay, maybe she wanted the book to be a little out there, but then all of a sudden it turns into a romance. I like my occasional romance novels but this was so juvenile and cheesy that I skipped paragraphs. Not trying to give away all the details but when she stuck her tongue in his ear all I could think was oh dear lord that is disgusting! Not romantic at all... Sorry to burst any bubbles, but the ending was so bad I didn't even read the last page. It was too much. Think twice about paying $20 for a crappy book. Go to the library like I did and you'll see. I wouldn't waste my time on it again, though.

I have enjoyed FM books in the past and this book was so bad that I can not believe that she wrote it. I have read about famous authors who have staff writers do most of the writing and the authors edits, adds and approves it.The story line is very mixed up... a lovely young woman has imposter parents for 22 years and doesn't realize it, but they are not her parents or are they. They loved her but were able to abandon her. They were world class spies who did love their country, or maybe not, just wanted the excitement of being spies? She can read minds for a while, but not when it would have really made the story interesting as in during meetings with the FBI. She treats a visitor like crap, but he still falls in love at first sight? Poorly written and poorly edited. Don't bother.

This book started out with promise but there are just too many things that I disliked about the book to give it more than one star. It was interesting in the beginning and held my attention. But that quickly changed. In all honesty, it was not written very well and many parts of the book were unnecessary and ridiculous. I bought this book cheap from a store that was going out of business. I thought this was an unknown author and when I looked it up on Amazon, I was shocked as to how many books Ms Michaels has produced but even more surprised as to how popular this particular book is! Granted, most people did not write much in their review which makes me wonder if anyone actually read this book!Basically, Lucy is a successful business woman. Raised in a boarding school since she was 10, she did not have a real relationship with her parents. So when she received word that her parents were killed in a car crash, she felt very little remorse and only did the daughterly duty which was to take care of the funeral arrangements. She arrives to her parent’s home and starts to go through their things and begins to discover secrets about her parents she had only seen in movies.This is where to novel take a ludicrous turn.Spoiler alert!Lucy gets hit by lightening and loses her memory. Just as quickly she gets her memory back but winds up with the ability to read minds! If this were a sci-fi or fantasy novel I might buy into it but… no… There seems to be no reason for this to be a part of the book other than to lengthen it, or to create some comic relief but even that fall short of actual humor. There are times when she could use it to her advantage but doesn’t. While she is bed ridden, the handsome architect of the house, Luke, stops by. She is rude to him but he somehow is still smitten by her. When she leaves her parents house and heads home, the fbi shows up and try to get inside the house. They see Luke for assistance but he won’t cooperate. Luke then flies to visit Lucy to warn her, the fbi is looking for her. Seriously? Who would do that to someone they just met especially if they thought they were mixed up in the fbi? This is nothing more than a failed attempt at romance. The dialogue between Lucy and Luke are ridiculous and I found myself wanting to put the book away but forced myself to continue. Luke was not a necessary character to this book. Everything he did to help her could have been left out of the book altogether since, in the end, it did nothing to solve the mystery.From here, it just gets worse and worse. The whole last third of the book is very anticlimactic. Ms Michaels builds the story and adds a bit of suspense all for it to end with the fbi saying, “yes, your right. Your parents were spies.” That is it. Lucy and Luke get married and live happily ever after.There are a lot of predictable aspects of this book but then, every story will have that. Still, the writing is not great and I’m surprised she is such a popular author based on this book. I wouldn’t waste your time.

ALLEN I owned the prior edition and gave it only four stars because it lacked a chapter on prenatal care. This edition corrects that omission. I have been using this book for the past month to prepare for the April 2015 re-certification, which I first took in 1986. I highly recommend this book for that purpose. Each disease section is organized so you can jump right to the section you want. For me, the symptoms, signs and labs are very familiar, but the treatments have all changed a lot over 30 years, so I jump to that. The book is written mostly by family medicine faculty rather than other specialists, so they know what we see and focus on that, rather than obscure diseases that we will refer out anyway. I owned both the print and kindle editions for the 3rd edition. The formatting of the numerous tables don't format well in the kindle edition, so I strongly recommend the print version.

I can say that this book is simple and organized and really it really refresh my memories especially I passed USMLE step 3 in 2013 and need to refresh my memory and it is written by family physicians and this is very important not by internists or surgeons with my full respect to them

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This book is kinda nuts! (In an entertaining way) By Radioactive Nutmeg I love RPGs. I love the Diablo games and I am very well aware that runes are quite common in video games. In real life? These stones never crossed my mind until I saw this book and went on to read a ton of chapters starting with a small history lesson on runes and then moving on to Norse mythology (yeah I apparently failed to read the title completely). The mythology connection was a surprise and being a fan of mythology I got even more hooked. Put my mind in the fantasy world for a bit and it was fun.

I haven't been able to find where the author actually shows you what the runes look like. Good thing I already know. I wonder if a hard copy of the book shows them.
