By Jon This Bible was done very well. I am friends with some of the contributors so that makes this an even better purchase. Great Bible for the new Christian and a great Bible for the "seasoned" Christian looking for new ways to share their faith with others. I purchased the hard cover book and it's of a better quality than most of Tyndale Bibles that are put out.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Truly a treasure to be enjoyed all year long! By Bluerose's Heart I was looking for "fall-y" type books that were also inspiring, and ended up finding The Pumpkin Patch Parable. Very soon afterwards, I heard about this treasury with all the "parable" books by Higgs. I couldn't resist! This book proved to be perfect reading material for us, and will be a seasonal tradition for us now, Lord willing. There's a story to read for each season. The Parable of the Lily is for Spring, with a main focus on Easter, and The Sunflower Parable is one for summer. The Pumpkin Patch Parable is an alternative to Halloween, and really is a special treat. The Pine Tree Parable focuses on Winter, particularly Christmas. After reading The Pumpkin Patch Parable for a fall read, my Grasshopper ended up asking me to read the other three stories, too. He loved the whole book, and especially loved that the same farmer was in all four stories. They all surround the farmer and his family, along with the plants that they grow.As you read through the story, there's Bible verses that coordinates with each page placed at the bottom. I loved this, and tried fitting these verses into the reading a couple of different ways. I felt that reading the story straight through, and then coming back reading the Bible verses worked out best for us. It allowed for more discussion. This book truly is a treasure! We loved it, and highly recommend it! It's a great way to add an inspiring lesson and discussion into each season.*I was provided a review copy, in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Parable Treasury by Liz Curtis Higgs By Zoe @ Blessed and Bewildered My Painful Lesson:I am so grateful that God is forgiving when I do or say stupid things.  Things that are not fully thought through.  Inerrant things.  That is what I had done in this review...I had given approval below for a book which didn't earn it and frankly twisted scripture far out of context.Awhile after I published my review I read a review by Tiffany Malloy at Learning to Love.  Ouch....shame shame shame on me.  I didn't take the time to delve into the scriptures and verify that they were used in context. I just read it to my kids, discussed it in relation to the scripture at the bottom of the page, and went with my general perception.  That is dangerous, misleading, and just plain not what I wish to be advocating on my site.  I'm sorry that I let you down when it came to recommending this book.Words of wisdom from Malloy:“Each of the stories includes verses of Scripture at the bottom, connecting each part of the story to a Scripture verse. While some of the verses work, others are a stretch. I get nervous about using Scripture in this way– pulling it out of context and relating it to something that is completely unrelated. For example, in the Pine Tree Parable, the text on the page says, “The next holiday season brought more neighbors to the farm. The perfect tree was taller than ever.” The Scripture at the bottom? “So the tree was taller than all the other trees in the field. Ezekiel 31:5” Do you know what happens just 5 verses later of that chapter? The wicked tree gets handed over to the enemies for its wickedness and pride, and the foreign nations cuts it down. Whoops! Pretty sure the editors should have thought that one through a little better.”I originally gave this book a 4 star rating.  I have demoted it to 2 stars.  Go and read Malloy's full review.  It is what I wished I would have done in the beginning. Review:The padded hardcover edition of Parable Treasury is a joy to look at. It is beautiful. The stories are sweet and they are illustrated with joyful, colorful, beautiful photos. The typeset is large allowing young readers the joy of reading it to you.The publisher recommends these stories for children ages three to five or three to seven years old depending on the site you are referencing. We all know that those age ranges are flexible. My tests subjects were above the recommended age and so unsurprisingly Parable Treasury didn’t captivate them. My nine-year old is a relatively thoughtful and patient soul though and so he willingly answered my questions that the book naturally brought forward about God; a very positive platform to begin deeper discussions with your child. There is great value in reading this book with your children, even if they are squiggly like my six-year old or just being patient and loving like my nine-year old. Scripture is written throughout the book showing the biblical basis for the story, allowing you to delve deeper into the story behind the story.  The age-old, unchanging, life-giving story. Parable Treasury is a good Christian family story.I received a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. My thanks to the author and publisher. For all of my reviews visit my blog at https://blessedandbewildered.wordpress.com

The real killer is found, and Amanda drives off in search of Alex

Amanda is shocked when the police find the man responsible for her husband’s death, and though it is a member of The Unknowns, the man has nothing to do with Alex. She is filled with regret for not trusting Alex and sets out on an impossible mission, to find a man who doesn’t want to be found.

He meets up with his club, broken and full of anger

Alex meets up with The Unknowns, vowing never to fall in love again. He is broken and angry, determined to push everyone away for good.

They must find the courage to confide, and heal the mistakes of the past

When Amanda reaches Alex she tells him that no matter what, she will be with him and that if he ever finds the courage to confide in her, she will stand by him. Alex has to do what he has never been able to in all of his life: tell the truth about his past in order to secure a happy future. EXCERPT “I mean… if you’re going to stay here with me or if you’re going to head out and start your life up.” He thought about this for a moment and shrugged. “I was sort of hoping I could do both at once. I’d like to start my life over, but I’d like for you to be a part of it.” She smiled and leaned over for a kiss. It was quick and sweet. The passion in his kisses was another indicator of his lifestyle change. She knew he loved her even though he had not yet come out and said it. She could tell in the way he kissed her and even the way he looked at her across the room. “I’d like that, too,” she said. She slid over next to him and kissed his cheek. “But there’s one other question that we need to address first,” she said. “Yeah? What’s that?” She kissed him again, this time making it longer. When their tongues met, it was like electricity. “If I climb on top of you, is your knee going to be able to handle it?”

Then Tidsworth identifies and follows three hopeful shifts every church is called to make: member identity to disciple identity, attractional to missional church, and consumer culture to sacred partnering.

Keelen I finally understand how important it is to be a disciple at church, rather than just a member, and to be a missional church rather than an attraction church. The attraction church pretends that the post moderns are still looking for a church to belong to. WRONG! That is church-as-it-used-to-be. Instead, the church needs to find out where God is at work in the community and partner with that work: the missiional church. The book provides excellent examples of our attitudes and misperceptions in the church-as-it-used-to-be. And then it gives hints on how to become a missional church through a process of "Holy Experimenting". He also provides examples on how to develop disciples (as compared to members), using a "Rule of Life" and other discipleship development techniques. I got the least out of the last section of the book, on moving from a consumer culture to "Sacred Partnering", largely because I think our church is doing a pretty good job with it's fellowship efforts and reaching out to others with love. There is one graphic in the Missional Church section that is worth the price of the book. I'll leave it to you to find it.

Healthcare providers in the American medical system may find that patients from different cultures bring unfamiliar expectations, anxieties, and needs into the examination room. To provide optimal care for all patients, it is important to see differences from the patient's perspective and to work with patients from a range of demographics. Caring for Patients from Different Cultures has been a vital resource for nurses and physicians for more than twenty years, offering hundreds of case studies that illustrate cross-cultural conflicts or misunderstandings as well as examples of culturally competent health care.

Now in its fifth edition, Caring for Patients from Different Cultures covers a wide range of topics, including birth, end of life, communication, traditional medicine, mental health, pain, religion, and multicultural staff challenges. This edition includes more than sixty new cases, introduces a new chapter on improving adherence, and updates the concluding chapter with examples of changes various hospitals have made to accommodate cultural differences. Grounded in concepts from the fields of cultural diversity and medical anthropology, Caring for Patients from Different Cultures provides healthcare workers with a frame of reference for understanding cultural differences and sound alternatives for providing the best possible care to multicultural communities.

Douglas As Director of Nursing for a small, rural county health department, I was looking for cultural information on dealing with Hispanic populations. What this book covers is all of that and more.It was a real eye opener! Ms. Galanti gives case synopses on caring for patients from many diverse cultures. She covers cultural differences with nutrition, religion, family support, response to pain, and a wealth of other topics.I purchased this book for our staff library, and a copy for myself and my nurse-mother. Anyone who deals with people from other cultures(not just health care providers) needs to read this book!

Galanti writes with the clarity and simplicity of someone who knows her subject well, and she illustrates her points about cultural misunderstandings that impact health care with the fascinating true experiences of medical professionals. An extremely valuable and interesting book that holds the reader's attention from beginning to end!

Peterson My students loved the real life situations in this book!I recommend that teachers use this to incorporate multiculturalism in a very meaningful way in biology classes, and welcome ideas about how others use it. The way I did it was to present the problem, have students brainstorm what they might do, and then reveal the resolution (or lack of one) from the book. I am so glad I found this while browsing the medical section. You are not likely to find a used copy for sale because the stories are so interesting to everyone.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. basic resource By R. Shoff This book depicts 20 paintings appropriate to view with children. Unfortunately, there is no text or further descriptions. More information would make it really useful for lesson plans or further study. But, a good resource for a starting point.

By Rob Natiuk EDGAR DEGAS (1834 to 1917) was a famous French artist – paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. More than half of his works features dancing and dancers. Critics labeled him as Impressionist but he preferred Realist.Degas was obsessed with painting early in his life. In his high school and college years, he had turned a room in his house into a studio. His art teacher gave him this advice: “Draw lines, young man, and still more lines, both from life and from memory, and you will become a good artist.” Do you think that’s good advice? Why or why not?Look at his self-portrait #1. What can you tell about him? What did Degas want others to see? Painting #3 we have a dance class. How does it resemble today’s dance studios? What’s different? Besides dancing, what other subjects did Degas love to paint? Look closely at paintings in a category, such as portraits of people and people in common pursuits. How well do you think Degas captured the “soul” of these people? To observe paintings and think about the why’s and how’s of the artist makes them more meaningful.

Escaping the turmoil and heartbreak of war-torn Kabul, Raihana settles with distant relatives in the strange, cold, damp country of Denmark. Homesick and heartbroken, Raihana bravely attempts to start a new life, trying hard not to ponder the fate of her husband, who was taken prisoner by the Taliban and never heard from again. Soon after arriving, Raihana finds herself in a language school, struggling to learn Danish, which she thinks sounds like the buzzing of bees. To improve her speaking skills, Raihana apprentices herself to Gunnar, a recent widower who is steadily withdrawing from the world around him, even neglecting the bee colonies he worked so hard to cultivate with his late wife. Over the course of the bee season, Raihana and Gunnar forge an unlikely relationship, despite the disapproval of their friends and relatives. But when the violence Raihana thought she had left behind in Afghanistan rears its head, she and Gunnar are forced to confront the ghosts of the past as they navigate the uncertain future… ‘A quietly powerful story about a young Afghani woman adjusting to a new life in Denmark. The Sound of Language, by Amulya Malladi

From Publishers Weekly Cold, wet Denmark is a strange land to Raihana, the widowed Afghan refugee at the center of Malladi's well-intentioned but wooden fifth novel. After her husband is killed by the Taliban, Raihana moves to Denmark, enrolls in language school and, with the help of a supportive teacher, lands an unusual apprenticeship helping Gunnar, a Danish widower and beekeeper, harvest his honey. Though their relationship is initially strained, Raihana and Gunnar soon develop a restorative friendship, but the road to redemption is not easy: Raihana feels pressure within the Afghan community to remarry, and the idea of an Afghan woman working alone with a Danish man soon has both their communities in a tizzy. Meanwhile, racial violence simmers day-to-day. Unfortunately, Malladi's treatment of cultural tension is one-dimensional at best; most of the supporting characters are xenophobic, if not flat-out racist, and their actions play into an overarching philosophy that expounds the benefits of tolerance and multiculturalism. Malladi means well, but her parable-like treatment of complex issues is too pat to resonate. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

OneEntry from Anna’s Diary A Year of Keeping Bees15 March 1980When we first decided to become hobby beekeepers, it was because our friend Ole had been doing it for a very long time and seemed to find a lot of solace in the rituals and responsibility. But I had some doubts. The wings of honeybees stroke about 11,400 times per minute—hence the distinctive buzz. I wondered about the buzzing of the bees. I was sure that constant hum would drive me crazy. But now, after a few seasons, the buzz of the bees is like a soothing rhythm, almost like a song, the song of spring.Skive, Denmark—January 2002Bzzzzzz, that was how she thought it sounded.Bzzzzzz, like the buzzing of a thousand bees. The same sound she used to hear when she visited her uncle Chacha Bashir in Baharak. He had been one of the wealthiest men in town with his silk and bee farm. Silk and honey, he would say, “The riches of the kings are mine.” Then the Taliban killed him and no one knew what happened to his family. That was how the Danish language sounded to Raihana, like the buzzing of Chacha Bashir’s bees. The Danes mumbled, she thought as she watched them in supermarkets, on television, and on the streets. She had never seen so many white people before, and this was the first time she was seeing white people at such close proximity. So she stared at them, she just couldn’t help it.They were different from what she had imagined. They were not all tall and fair and beautiful, some of them were short and ugly. And they mumbled when they spoke. The standing joke, Layla had told her, was that they spoke like they had hot potatoes in their mouths and Raihana agreed. She had escaped a second brutally cold winter at the Jalozai refugee camp in North Western Pakistan when the Danish government offered her asylum. It was difficult for a single woman with no family, no husband, and no education to survive. Her choices had been limited. She could either die in a refugee camp where the cold wind from the mountains pierced its frozen fingers through the tents to all but peel the skin off the bones, or she could go to this country where her distant cousin and his wife had agreed to give her a home.A part of her didn’t want to leave the camp. She had to wait, she thought, wait for Aamir, or maybe go back and look for him? But even she wasn’t foolish enough to go back to Kabul. Everyone knew that Osama bin Laden was responsible for the plane attacks in America and everyone knew that the Taliban were the same species as al- Qaeda. America would attack; that’s what powerful countries did. The Taliban would fight back, they said, and though the Afghans in Denmark, like many others, didn’t like the idea of American troops on Afghan soil, it was better than the Taliban. Some thought the Taliban had been unjustly rousted out of power, that they were the good guys.So Raihana joined the small number of refugees living in Denmark, all of whom watched the news with desperation, wondering when they could go back. Afghanistan, they knew, would be a war ruin for several decades to come, but there was still hope. They wished that, somehow, Afghanistan would no longer be synonymous with tortured men and women living in penury. Maybe things would change and Afghanistan would become a safe haven, a progressive country, a normal country.“Have to go home someday, can’t live here all our life can we?” Kabir would say almost every day. “Don’t unpack everything, Raihana, we’ll go back soon.”“Go back to what?” Layla would ask her husband, her hands on her hips as her son, Shahrukh, pulled at her salwar.“Mor, slik,” he said, pleading with his mother to give him candy, which she had strict rules about not giving to him.“Look at him, hai, Shahrukh, it is not Mor, it is Ammi, say Ammi,” Kabir said as he always did, but Shahrukh never took him seriously. “Mor is some Danish woman, not Layla, she is Ammi. Now say Ammi.”“Leave him alone, he’s just two,” Layla said. “And he’s calling me mother, not some evil name. All his friends call their mothers Mor, so he calls me Mor.”Raihana watched the young couple battle about going back, about staying. She had been scared when the people from the Danish immigration told her that Kabir wanted her to live with him. She remembered Kabir from her childhood, a long time ago. He was her mother’s sister’s husband’s brother’s son. The families had not been close, only meeting at weddings and celebrations. Kabir’s family had lived in Kabul while hers settled in a village outside Kabul. But he was the only one who had offered her a chance to leave the refugee camp and she had taken it. She hadn’t had much of a choice. The rumor was that Aamir had died in a Taliban prison, but a part of her never believed it. However, she knew she had to leave Pakistan because whether she liked it or not, there was a good chance the rumor about Aamir was true. But she wished—wished until she went mad with it—that he was alive. She wished they had been able to leave together. She wished she wasn’t alone and cold because even though Kabul had been hell, she’d had someone to share it with, someone to keep her warm. But in the refugee camp in Pakistan, there was emptiness, insecurity, threats from other men, and fear.It had been a stroke of luck that when she rattled out the names of relatives and where she thought they lived, she had named Kabir. The others had not panned out, maybe they couldn’t be found or maybe they hadn’t wanted her, she didn’t know. What she did know was that Kabir and Layla had welcomed her with open arms and that was a debt she would never be able to repay. As she sat at the dining table chopping carrots for the Kabuli pilau she was making for dinner, Raihana was grateful for the turn her life had taken after she’d moved to Denmark. When she’d first come to Skive nine months before, she had been worried that Kabir would be a religious type. She didn’t intend to wear a hijab or an abaya, not after having left Afghanistan and the rules of the Taliban so far behind.Kabir hadn’t asked her to wear a hijab and neither had Layla, who never went out without donning one herself, in addition to an abaya. Kabir, who drank merrily on Friday nights to celebrate the weekend, didn’t ask his wife to get rid of her hijab and she didn’t ask him to stop drinking.“Islam says smoking and drinking is wrong,” Layla told Raihana on one of the Friday nights when Kabir was out of the house. “What do you think?”Raihana didn’t know what to say about things like this. She believed that people should do what they wanted but knew that was not what Layla wanted to hear.“I think it is wrong,” Layla said before Raihana could answer. It wasn’t like Raihana was talkative, and she didn’t always respond to people. Layla had met women like her, men too, people who had scars so big hidden under their skin that they were really one big wound. She didn’t know the details about Raihana’s life in Afghanistan, but no one knew the details. Raihana wasn’t talking and her past was not well known. When Raihana had first arrived, Khala Soofia, who lived next door, had tried to get Raihana to talk about her past, about her life in Kabul, the dead husband, but Raihana didn’t say anything. Khala Soofia had come to Denmark in the early 1990s. Her husband had been a doctor in Jalalabad. Her son had died of cancer, and her daughter had moved to America with her husband, also a doctor, and their children. Soofia talked about moving there all the time.Soofia’s husband, Dr. Sidiq Rehman, had spent several years when he first came to Denmark petitioning the Danish integration minister and the Danish Medical Association, and writing letters to EU Parliament members, that he should be allowed to work in Denmark without having to go to medical school again. He understood that he had to learn Danish, which he had done by diligently going to language school. Now he’d stopped the petitions and the letters. He didn’t come out of his house much. He was depressed, they said, because he couldn’t practice medicine. Still everyone called him Doctor Chacha. While Doctor Chacha silently mourned the loss of his life’s work, Soofia kept hoping that her daughter would send for her. “Visa problems,” she always said. “But it will happen soon. You know daughters, they need their mothers.”Everyone nodded patiently and no one pointed out that Soofia’s daughter rarely wrote and when she did the letters were filled with excuses as to why she couldn’t find the means to bring her parents to America. Soofia read out the letters to whoever would listen and would try to put a positive spin on her daughter’s excuses.“You are just like my daughter, my Deena,” Soofia told Raihana when they met at a birthday party. Habib and Jameela were celebrating their son’s first birthday and had invited all the Afghans in Skive for a party. It had been a tumultuous first year for the boy, who had been born with heart problems, but after two surgeries he seemed fine and the doctors predicted he would have no further problems.Raihana was barely paying attention to Soofia, who talked constantly, either about her daughter or about local Afghan community gossip. But soon enough, Soofia got to Raihana.“So, where is your husband?” she asked.Raihana was not stupid. She knew people were curious.“Dead,” she said quietly and then tried to change the subject by asking Soofia about her gold bangles. Soofia was easily distracted, especially when ...

Malladi's best novel yet By Ratmammy THE SOUND OF LANGUAGE by Amulya MalladiRating ***** (5 Stars)February 23, 2008THE SOUND OF LANGUAGE is by Amulya Malladi, a writer who has come a long way since her debut novel A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. This reviewer has been privileged to watch this writer grow, and with each new book she writes she gets better and better. THE SOUND OF LANGUAGE is a departure for Malladi, because this is the first book in which the central characters are not of Indian descent, and the main body of the story takes place in Denmark, not India or America.Raihana is a woman escaping the horrors of Afghanistan and settles in a foreign country with relatives. Denmark is as far away and as different as one can get from Afghanistan and her initial experiences in this new country are not happy ones. She cannot speak the language, finds learning the language quite difficult, and misses her husband Aamir, who was taken prisoner by the Taliban and is presumed dead.As she learns to speak the language, Raihana equates the Danish speech akin to the sound of bees. Coincidentally enough, she is placed into a program where she is asked to work for an elderly man, Gunnar, who is a keeper of bees. Through him, she will improve her Danish and find a means to earn a living at the same time. She cannot forever live with her cousins Kabir and Layla, although they have been very kind by inviting her to live with them in Denmark. But, eventually Raihana will have to move on and make a life for herself.Raihana's Danish is actually very good relative to her time spent in the country, but with her work with Gunnar and his bees, she begins to feel comfortable speaking the language, and becomes somewhat comfortable with the culture. Gunnar's own story is that he has lost interest in life since his beloved wife had passed away. A good friend of his recognizes that maybe if he got involved in something important, it may bring him back to life. Raihana's past experience with bees is what brings the two unlikely people together, but what is extraordinary is the friendship that develops between them, despite the prejudice that goes on around them, and the language barrier that they eventually break down. This is Amulya Malladi's best novel to date. She obviously did immense research on the industry of honey and bees, and she was able to make the culture and the people come alive. The reader will feel a connection and empathize with the immigrant Raihana. She is alone in the world, living far away from her native Afghanistan, a young widow with no means of making a living. Through the kindness of her distant cousins, she is able to make a new life for herself. Her future is very vague, and without the skill of speaking the native language, Raihana knows her future is doomed. This reviewer loved the pairing of Gunnar and Raihana. The two very unlikely friends will strike a chord in the reader's heart. It is a friendship that is highly unlikely in this world of Danes and Afghanistan immigrants, as there is a lot of racial tension between the two groups. Both Raihana and Gunnar know the danger of befriending the other, yet their conscience tells them that there is nothing wrong with it. Gunnar sees new life when he begins to trust Raihana and opens up his house to her. And Raihana becomes confident with her beginner's Danish, as she soon becomes comfortable with the language and impresses those around her with her ability to learn it quickly.Having always had a fear of bees, this reviewer is now ready to learn more about making honey. Malladi gave an in-depth look into this fascinating industry, and did so with meticulous detail. The reader will be intrigued not just by the relationship between Raihana and Gunnar, but by the work they do every day. Malladi paints the process as a thing of beauty, and the characters' love of bees can be contagious. Other various themes in the book include the prejudice encountered by the Afghans after 9/11, as well as the fear and uncertainty any immigrant feels coming to live in a foreign country where they cannot speak the native language. The reader will see Raihana grow as a person, and while she never loses her yearning to return to the country she fled, she embraces a new culture that reluctantly welcomes her and her people with open arms. THE SOUND OF LANGUAGE gets 5 hearts. - Courtesy of Love Romances and More - M. Lofton

Ms. Malladi developed characters who were interesting and intriguing. There was one thing that disturbed me about this book, however. I felt slightly annoyed with Ms. Malladi's portrayal of practicing, observant Muslims as extremists and non-practicing Muslims as preferable- the "good ones." The fact is the Muslim communuity is much more diverse than that and is far more complex. There are practicing Muslims who are outgoing, open-minded and tolerant. At one point in the book I thought Layla would serve as an example of such Muslims. Yet, when she is contrasted with the main character, Raihana, who does not wear hijab and wears "Danish clothing" it is clear that Raihana is the preferable Muslim. It's unfortunate that Ms. Malladi's characters fall into the same boring stereotypes of Muslim women. Nonetheless, The Sound of Language was a solid read.

Fascinating 5-star read By Armchair Interviews While it is not difficult to find books depicting the refugee/immigrant experience in the United States, Amulya Malladi has given this book a twist by setting it in Denmark. Raihana Khan is an Afghani woman who was able to leave her Taliban-controlled country. She is alone in a Pakistani refugee camp when she receives word that a cousin living in Denmark would take her in.Raihana arrives in Denmark with no knowledge of the language or culture. To her ears the Danish language sounds like the hum of bees - completely unintelligible. But Danish law requires her to go to language class and learn to speak and read it. Her cousin's wife, Layla, is also in the class and is initially helpful in translating Danish into Dari - Raihana's native tongue. She is a good student and her teacher, Christina, pairs her with an old friend who has recently lost his wife, to practice speaking Danish with a native speaker, and also to learn beekeeping. Gunner is not initially excited about his new assistant. He harbors several prejudicial ideas about what an Afghani woman might be like. But Raihana is bright, educated, hard working and truly interested in the bees. She wins him over and at the same time finds that she truly loves working with honeybees. This book deals with the many difficulties of being a refugee and a widow - particularly in a small homogenous country such as Denmark. People are not generally happy to have an influx of non-Danish people in their midst. The refugees themselves are not sure they even want to be in this cold, damp place where everyone eats pork and seem to look askance at all Muslims. Malladi currently lives in Denmark and has firsthand immigrant experience.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The play of cultures was fascinating. I have read two other enjoyable novels by Malladi - Song of the Cuckoo Bird and Serving Crazy with Curry. This book is even better than those.Armchair Interviews says: Well-written story that brings this person's struggle to life.

Feliciano This book is a great guide to an Advent practice of art journaling in the Bible as a way of meditating. It introduces the Advent practice clearly. But more than that, it is a good introduction to Bible Journaling, giving information on how to do it and what tools are helpful/needed. It would be useful even to someone who does not want to join in the Advent practice, but I think the greatest benefit will be following along and actually journalling during Advent. The daily pages to be used during Advent are helpful in two ways. In the first way, they are helpful as prompts for the specific scriptures about which we will be journalling over the next few weeks. But in addition, they provide a way of thinking about scripture wih an eye to finding key words and essential meaning in the passage. This will be useful as a framework for thinking about other scriptures in the future.

By Lynne Thompson Thank you to Sara for giving us not only an inspiring way to spend time in the Word during Advent, but also a great book about bible journaling as well. I love everything about the book! The calendars are helpful and made so that everyone can find a timeline to follow--whether journaling daily or weekly or just the few days before Christmas. One of the most helpful books for the bible journaling enthusiast I've seen!

Jennifer L. Armentrout, New York Times best-selling author of the Wait for You series, delivers a new novel of first love, second chances, and scorching chemistry between an artistic bartender and the tough, sexy cop who's determined to win her.

Roxy's loved Reece Anders since she was 15, so when the straitlaced cop finally surrendered to a steamy encounter years later, Roxy hoped he'd fall for her, too. He didn't. Or that's what she's always believed. But then Reece storms back into her life when the man who injured her childhood friend is out of prison and wanting to make amends - something Roxy cannot do.

The last thing she wants is to go there with Reece again, but he's determined to prove to her that he's exactly what she needs. Especially when a sick creep starts messing with her. But what's more dangerous to Roxy - a psycho after her or the past that refuses to let go and allow her to open up her heart again?

Roxy was supposed to be cute, quirky, a tad naive and independent. She is truly childish, selfish and stupid. I hate to think that of the heroine or protagonist but it's the only feelings I walked away with. I did not enjoy her at all and there was not enough character development for Reese, IMO. So little, that I truly didn't care if these two ended up together or not.It won't stop me from buying anymore of her books but it certainly put me off books for a few days. One thing that had me rolling my eyes were the instances in her apartment. How many times did she think something was wrong and didn't do a thing about it? Just chalked it up to her apt being "haunted" in a facetious way. Completely stupid. Then there was the incident with the cell phone. Call me crazy but if a stalker is seconds from leaving your home when you wake up, call the police. Don't scroll through your contacts wondering who to call first. Stupid doesn't begin to cover it. I can't even list the many little things that irritated me.

Every time she transitioned scenes it was done so poorly the reader had no idea what was going on. Also in one chapter she switched Roxy's brothers' names so often and one of them wasn't said to be present. The errors in the story make this a very hard book to read. I enjoyed it as a contemporary romance that appeals to readers of an often overlooked age group, however, it could really benefit from better proof-reading and continuity. This book was recommended by other authors I really enjoy but I doubt I'll be reading another J.Lynn book after this experience.

I love how all the books are connected together by reoccurring secondary characters, but each story still has a unique feel to it. Roxy and Reese’s story was different than I had expected, which made it even more enjoyable. Fall with Me was the perfect mix of steam, romance, emotion, and suspense. I was intrigued by what we saw of Roxy and Reese in Stay with Me and looked forward to seeing why Roxy was so intent on avoiding Reese. What I didn’t count on was Armentrout breaking my heart in the process with a story of friendship and the pain and guilt of regret.Roxy has been in love with Officer Reese Anders since she was 15 years old. They had a one-night stand almost a year ago, but Reese made it clear he wished that night never happened. Hurt by Reese’s apparent dismissal of their time together, Roxy does her best to distance herself from him. Suddenly she begins to receive scary messages that make her worry about her safety. Believing it is the man who ruined her best friend’s life and is currently looking for forgiveness, Roxy reluctantly involves the man who broke her heart. Reese is determined to keep Roxy safe at all costs, as well as set the record straight about their past and future together.Probably since Armentrout is an auto-buy author for me, I realized after I had started Fall with Me that I had never actually read the synopsis and knew what had happened to Roxy’s friend. That first chapter hit me hard. Roxy’s anguish and guilt were palpable. Although as a reader I never held her at fault, I think that if I were in her shoes I would have felt the same way she did. Despite her self-blame, Roxy was a dedicated and loving friend. It was clear during her weekly visits how much she adored Charlie, and how difficult it was seeing him as a shadow of his former self. I was rooting for her to find a way to forgive herself.I adored Roxy’s wit and quirky attitude, not to mention her awesome t-shirts. It made me laugh every time she attempted to avoid Reese because that man who was not going to let her get away without setting the record straight. I appreciated how straightforward Reese was with Roxy. He wasn’t interested in playing games. Reese was sexy, dedicated to his job and Roxy, and just an all-around good guy. What I loved the most about him, though, was how he helped Roxy understand that she couldn’t live her life for her friend. He was incredibly supportive and encouraged her to follow her heart and her passion.Everything was on point with this story. There was great chemistry between Roxy and Reese and a good balance of romance and heat. Roxy’s story tugged at my heart more times than I could count, and I definitely shed some tears. Add in healthy doses of snark, angst, and suspense, and Armentrout knocked it out of the park. I loved the overall message about letting go in the book. Nick was a primary secondary character in this installment, and I enjoyed getting to know him more. I can’t wait to read to his story next. Whenever I am looking for a great book in the New Adult genre, I know I can count on Armentrout.

In this eBook I’m going to show you simple proven strategies to help you flip the switch from exhausted to extraordinary! Although your environment might not change, YOU will change by learning how to decrease your stress from the inside out. As you’re reading this book, just remember that rarely can anyone do a complete 180 and implement every fatigue reversing strategy at once. Instead, I want you to choose a few actions to implement and stick with them. Once they become habits, then add a few more to your list until you’ve incorporated most or all. It’s just like learning to become a nurse. You first learned how to assess vital signs. Once you mastered vital signs, then you learned how to assess each body system from neuro to musculoskeletal – one system at a time. Now, you perform comprehensive head to toe assessments without even thinking. And, may walk into a room and know right away the status of your patient just by looking at him! Remember, just like in nursing school; take it one step at a time and aim for progress – not perfection.

By Amazon Customer Renee's book is positive, enthusiastic, & contains real life tips for how to improve your outlook on colleagues, peers, nursing, as well as life outside the hospital. I have worked in nursing for 25+ years & can identify with each of the many examples Renee uses & support her concise, clear, & very simple tips to save yourself from the negativity of our culture. Nurses are outcome focused. I love that Renee focuses on simple, concrete steps we can take to influence our own outcomes, but at the same uses my favorite expression "Its about progress not perfection." It's a value at twice the price! Well done Dr. Thompson.
