About the Author

John Boyages, MD, PhD is a cancer specialist with over thirty years experience in the management of breast cancer. Following his training at the University of Sydney and a fellowship at Harvard Medical School, he was appointed as a specialist radiation oncologist at Westmead Hospital in 1989 and established one of Australia s largest breast cancer screening and treatment programs. He is now the director and professor of breast oncology at the Macquarie University Cancer Institute, and a busy clinician who cares for patients at Macquarie University Hospital. About the Author Kelly Cowan just celebrated her 20th anniversary at Miami University Middletown, an open admissions campus in Ohio. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Louisville, and later worked at the University of Maryland and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She specializes in teaching microbiology to nonmajors, and especially to pre-nursing and allied health students. She herself fell in love with microbiology while pursuing an undergraduate degree in dental hygiene. About the Author Georgia Huston is a student at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. She is a psychology major with a minor in art, and plans to become an Art Therapist and work with foster children. She has an internship counseling at-risk children and youths for the state of Texas, and she occasionally helps seniors and the mentally challenged with art projects. Georgia continues to work as a volunteer for Whole Child L.A., where she designed and manages a private social networking site for kids suffering chronic pain. As a young teenager, Georgia was stricken with severe pain from no apparent cause. When doctors failed to help, she spiraled into hopelessness. Her battle through this devastating period of confusion, frustration, and loss was life-changing. After recovering, Georgia created the Teen Pain Help Foundation (www.teenpainhelp.org) where as Executive Director she continues her outreach, spreading the word about children and young people who are suffering from chronic pain, offering them useful information and hope. Privately, she still counsels young people suffering with chronic pain when possible. Georgia continues to do public speaking, media interviews, and websites on the subject. And, she continues to write about pain.

By Helen Costantino This book , as well as Vienna's Waiting , written earlier by this gifted young lady, has proven to be a wonderful gift to someone close to mewho has suffered from chronic, unidentified pain for several years. The journey that a sufferer makes, especially when validation by physiciansis hard/impossible to fine, is a heartbreaking one. Georgia not only shares her story but the story of others in a readable way that makes thedifficulties understandable and gives the reader hope. Knowing that others, particularly young people, deal with pain and learn how tomanage their lives is inspirational. That a girl so young would publicly address this and go on to start a foundation to help others in similarsituations is a tribute to her character, intelligence and generosity. The support that her family obviously played a part in her progressis a reminder of the importance of a caring network . We go through life with many different issues; we need to realize that we can not do it alone. The two books by Georgia Huston are superb. An important read on many levels.

The book offers hopeful paths for coping, managing and healing this crippling elusive condition.I highly recommend the book for young people suffering from this condition and those who love and care for them and want to ease their pain. Miss Huston shows us that there is the possibility of living a happy and productive life while managing the condition.

I found it to be a very difficult read - sad and uplifting all at the same time By John While I gave Ms. Huston's book five stars, I found it to be a very difficult read - sad and uplifting all at the same time. Her book is a series of interviews and stories from people who suffer from chronic pain, including herself. Ms. Huston must have a great deal of skill to extract the in depth interviews she presents us with. Congratulations to Ms. Huston for giving us a look at this world - both the pain and the courage! This is a most valuable tool for anyone that suffers this terrible, debilitating condition.

A great book that educates about Bulimia By BR This book clearly discusses what Bulimia is, its causes and effect to the person suffering from this disease. I learned a lot from this book especially the treatment and preventive measures which can help a lot if we know someone who’s suffering from bulimia. In chapter 4, it discusses the preventive measures needed for this disease which is great as prevention is better than cure. Ms. Jaeger skillfully drew me into the lives of figure skater Tiffany Lennox and roving journalist Cole Greer and kept me hooked until the end (well beyond the midnight hour). Eaton I am usually drawn to historical fiction, but I found this book so well written, that I have already devoured the second novel and am anxiously awaiting the 3rd installment. By Richard Maverick This book offers a great way to look at the bible if you are a christian hence my 5 star review. I have done my fair share of bible reading. I have read the entire thing cover to cover. While I don't personally recommend reading the bible, especially not to young children, I can see the cultural and religious significance it has had. If you are a christian this book is for you! If you read the bible from an atheistic or historical perspective this book is simply an interesting cultural way to examine scripture.

Even more, this book presented methodology of building brain power independent of smart drug or behavior change (tracking, control, thinking, reiteration). In this sense this book was easy to read and the chapter names let you study your areas of interests.This book goes deep in the cognitive enhancement science, but I will call it a guide or maybe semitechnical overview (I don't know) so it has no Anthony Simola's personal voice or details of any his personal experiments that he has done (but I don't know this). He is neutral and has anger (or critism but I think personally he goes too far) with computer brain games, such as Lumosity for example, he thinks they are not effective with ''very weak'' research. Well maybe the author is a very weak person, who knows!Also I have a biochemistry background (diploma USP Universidade de São Paulo) and Anthony Simola recommended this very high intake with supplements. Even with medical warning, he is responsible for this recommendation. In the end I wanted more and there are even better other books on Amazon.

Interesting and Inspired By Cassie Simola's guide to cognitive enhancement has done so much more for me than simply allowing me to think clearer (which it completely has). Not only have I seen an improvement in my critical thinking, but I've noticed a renewed vitality as well. The book is comprehensive to the point where improving your mental health involves improving your physical well being too. I particularly enjoyed his chapters on the supplements and the relationship between energy and eastern dietary practices (the Sattvic diet aka The Gandhi Diet).I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to increase their mental and physical energy!

The book discusses a wide range of different aspects of cognitive enhancement varying from memorization techniques (I hihgly recommend using these in your studying) to nootropics and mastering energy with Eastern practices. Its comprehensive approach offers much to reflect and chew. I personally enjoyed reading the parts on smart drugs and lucid dreaming and the whole final section of the book addressing the interesting future of cognitive enhancement.

Crazy good By Kia Book 3 was too much drama,Kartie trying to figure out who has Keyz and trying to find out whose loyal to him has him off his square. As a result of an interpreting error, Willie's brain hemorrhage was misdiagnosed and he was left quadriplegic. On January 22, 1980, 18-year-old Willie Ramirez ate a fast food hamburger. That evening, he fell down unconscious and his Cuban family thought it was the hamburger that made him sick. They tried to explain to the emergency room doctor that he was "intoxicado", which in Cuban Spanish means "ill due to something one ate." Willie's teenage girlfriend mentioned that they had been arguing, which caused the ER doctor to piece together a story that was completely wrong. He thought Willie was intoxicated—that he had taken an intentional drug overdose because he was upset about the fight with his girlfriend. No qualified interpreter was called because the parties believed they were communicating adequately. Although not consciously prejudiced, the doctor was influenced by an implicit association between drug abuse and young Cuban men. But Willie was a health-conscious athlete who never used alcohol or drugs. Willie was mistakenly treated for a drug overdose while his brain continued to hemorrhage. The interpreting error was perpetuated by a series of mishaps. Willie was admitted to the intensive care unit by an upper class Spanish-speaking Bolivian doctor who failed to confirm the medical history because he was disdainful of the working class Cuban family. The entire medical team who attended to Willie accepted the initial diagnosis of "drug overdose" and did not question it until the patient nearly died. For 36 hours, everyone missed the signs of the brain hemorrhage. When it was finally diagnosed, surgery was performed to stop the bleeding but it was too late. Over 30 years as a quadriplegic, Willie becomes an extraordinary person with rich intercultural relationships. He goes on to marry and even has a biological daughter. Based on interviews with Willie, his family, doctors, lawyers, and caregivers, "An Intoxicating Error: Mistranslation, Medical Malpractice, and Prejudice," is the story of how language barriers and prejudice affect his life and the lives of those around him.

By no means an isolated case By S I am a certified Spanish medical interpreter working as an independent contractor in California, and the horrifically dangerous situation described in this book still occurs on a daily basis all over America. How many times have I arrived at an appointment and been told my services were not needed, because the patient had arrived early and was seen by the doctor with a family member or administrative staff person acting as the interpreter? In one of these situations, the patient ended up having her fallopian tubes removed as a means of birth control without ever knowing that her husband could have simply had a vasectomy. The patient told me that her 15 year-old daughter hadn't understood the words the doctor was using, and was very embarrassed about repeating sexually-related comments to her parents, so there were parts of the doctor's explanations that she simply hadn't repeated. There are laws in place that guarantee Limited English Proficient patients have qualified interpreters at every medical appointment.The medical community needs to stop taking linguistic issues so lightly. Just because someone "speaks Spanish" does not mean they are qualified to interpret for others.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. WOW! It was GREAT-I loved it! By Julie Haigh I read and reviewed Tiina's first book, 'Fine-Tuning Hanna' a little while ago. Tiina very kindly provided me with an advance copy of her new novel, TwinPlay, to beta read. I gave 4 stars for her first book-which I also loved but this is even better-I couldn't put it down and read it in about two days. It was great right from the outset; easy reading, I could get straight into it and it soon hooks you in, keeping your interest. The story centres around identical twins, Sara and Sorcha. Sara is more outgoing, makes more of her looks and Sorcha is quite the opposite and doesn't really wear makeup etc. A little while into the book I was thinking: 'If this all happens it's a bit predictable but it's fun all the same': At first, I thought it bore some similarity to Deceptions by Judith Michael, a novel I had read in the early 90s, but it soon became completely different-gripping stuff! Brilliant! So easy to read, I just whizzed through this, many a great chapter, I just wanted to read on and on. There's great dialogue between the characters-it flows really well. I read this avidly, eagerly squeezing a few chapters in work breaks etc. I couldn't wait to get to the next bit and see what happened. I loved this book! So many twists and turns! I just couldn't put it down! There were so many moments where I thought: "Uh oh! What if this happens?" etc-then something else would happen and take me by surprise-such an exciting book. I REALLY enjoyed this! Couldn't put it down. Excellent.

While it's similar to Fine-Tuning Hanna in the sense that it's partially located located in a Nordic country (in this case Sweden) and dives into the subject of self-revelation/self-discovery and romance, TwinPlay is certainly nothing like any other book I've read before. It's more intense. Intense in the sense that it contains adult content (sex). Despite of that, I decided to give this book a thorough and honest try, without judging it at first sight.Sorcha is quite the opposite of her twin sister Sara. While Sorcha is a devotedly married and catholic woman and almost shameful for Sara's decisions in life, Sara's mind is constantly consumed by sex and living in the now. Then one day everything changes when Sorcha decides to confide in her sister and both sisters are suddenly drawn into life changing events (both good and bad). This trial will test their sisterly bond and will catapult Sorcha into a life she never thought she would try and Sara will explore feelings she never previously gave any consideration to.Comically, I almost felt like Sorcha during the first few chapter...almost embarrassed and uncomfortable. But, Tiina Walsh is a skilled writer and wise enough to write romance without it being overly graphic or silly. Instead she was able to even put a sceptic like me at ease, all thanks to the internal struggle and dialogue each character is having throughout the book. This books is filled with warmth, struggle, heartache, compassion, humor and disbelief.If there's anything I have to remark on is that I could have wished for a more descriptive writing in terms of settings, moods and physical traits. It would have raised this book up another level. Apart from that, TwinPlay was truly an enjoyable book! Just like with Fine-Tuning Hanna, those tiny quirks of using Swedish words here and there was rather charming. Looking forward to many books to come by Tiina Walsh. She's certainly opened up a new world to me when it comes to books I generally don't tend to pick up.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very enjoyable read!! By MJ Symmonds I received an email from Tiina Walsh asking if I'd like to get a copy of her new book TwinPlay to preview. Of course I was all over that offer. Twinplay is about identical twin sisters Sara and Sorcha. Although identical in looks they are polar opposites in personality and lifestyle. Sara is a fiery sexpot who plays by her own rules. Not interested in a serious relationship with a man just no strings attached casual trysts with numerous men and a no second encounter rule. Sorcha is the mild mannered, religious sister who trys to please everyone else in her life at the expense of her own desires & feelings. What happens when Sorcha gets the opportunity to live as Sara for a while? What happens when Sara realizes that there may be more to life than just casual sexual encounters? This is a very good chick lit book. I really enjoyed all the characters, but did feel that I would have liked more about Sean. Although this story was more about the sisters I think I would have liked to have had more about Sean in the story. I think that Ms.Walsh could very easily make this into a series with new main characters but have Sara and Sorcha as background characters so we could see what happens in their lives after. I encourage you to read this book!!!

It is a very accurate presentation of the road he travelled tobecome and live the life of an NFL sports agent.In many places in the book I came to tears as I read of the difficulties and disappointments that he faced, but saw how his optimism and his faith carried him through. All I could do was to pray for him everyday and encourage him to do his best and leave the rest to God. I observed in this book the great heart he had for helping his clients. I also saw, first hand, his passion for the game of football and for the business of football. This is a great book for anyone who thinks they would like to become a sports agent. A Book for Everyone By Amazon Customer A sports agent wakes up every day not knowing what challenges, exhilaration, disappointments, opportunities and roadblocks will be faced. Some people have the ability to take on and thrive in this environment, and Eugene Lee shows us that he is one of these. This engaging and well written book gives us a look inside the business of professional football from the agent's point of view. The author is a good story teller and uses this ability to engage us with examples of real experiences with real people and situations. He explains the events that caused him to enter the world of sports agency and helped him to develop the necessary relationships. He presents his recruiting adventures along with their successes and failures, and all the other activities he is involved with. Throughout you experience his thinking and emotions.Besides being a book of general interest, it would be valuable to anyone who thinks that he or she would like to be a sports agent. Additionally, every business professional would find the methods used by the author to be helpful and motivational. But for all readers, Eugene's optimism and faith shows throughout all of the book which inspires us to be the best that we can be, going the extra mile, and helps us understand what it means to be our brother's keeper.Even though I am not a very big fan of professional football, I thoroughly enjoyed and learned from this book and recommend it to everyone.

I read it start to finish in well under four hours, I could not put it down! I can't wait for the next one to come out in a few months to see how Colt and Piper are doing!

I love her books! I read Bridge to Destiny earlier this year, and it had me on the edge of my seat, much like how I felt when reading Kaleidoscope.Libs excels at writing stand-alone novels with tons of character growth. There is so much depth packed into her stories, which doesn't always happen with stand-alones, in my opinion. I loved that Kaleidoscope has an emphasis on healthy friendships, especially between girlfriends. Too often, women are at war with each other, so it's always nice to see a healthy relationship between two female characters.Piper's happily ever after is just within reach when the rug is pulled out from under her. She discovers her fiance with another woman (I'm not spoiling anything: this is in the summary). It's basically the worst thing that could happen. Piper's world is turned upside down and as a result, she decides to move and completely start over.Piper's move allows her to reinvent herself and she ends up being a lot more assertive by the end of the book than she was in the beginning. I loved seeing her grow and own her assertive nature, even when it was difficult and it would have been so much easier to let things go.I was surprised by the conflict resolution, but upon further reflection, it was true to the story line and perfect for this book. I love a great stand-alone contemporary fiction novel, and April Marie Libs is an author to follow. I can't wait to read her next novel!
