I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it for all ages! Here is what my daughter Anna, age 10, has to say about it: "It was really, really good! The author (Travis Lambert) needs to write some more books. It was a 10 out of 10. It has dwarves, goblins, giants, monsters, magic. It has some sad moments, but it has lots of adventure and great friendships. I can't wait for the next book!!"

Beyond Believing is a contemporary fiction novel written by D.D. Marx. It follows the lives of Olivia Henry and Finn McDaniels as they come of age and become adults. Olivia was in the fifth grade when her parents announced that the family was moving from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, to Chicago. Olivia and her older sister, Jane, had to face changing schools in the middle of the school year, but even more upsetting for Olivia was the prospect of losing the friends she had grown up with. Finn grew up in Fife, Scotland, a small town on the coast. He and his best friend, Mac, were closer than brothers and, when they turned 15, became caddies for the golf courses in the area. One night, when they were out on a course hunting for lost golf balls, the nightwatchman noticed them and started to chase them. Finn got away, but when he finally got home he heard that Mac had fallen off a cliff and was reportedly in a coma.

D.D. Marx's new adult fiction novel, Beyond Believing, is such a comfortable book to sit down and read. Marx's characters speak plainly and oh so eloquently about their lives, their friends and their dreams for the future that I found myself easily immersed in their worlds. Sometimes having a story alternately told by two or more speakers can confuse or distract the reader, but I found that not to be the case with Beyond Believing. I loved the coming of age stories of both Olivia and Finn, and especially enjoyed the different locales in which the story is set. Beyond Believing's author blends two compelling coming of age stories in a witty, new adult contemporary novel, and she does so in a most enjoyable and new adult contemporary novel, and she does so in a most enjoyable and entertaining way. It's most highly recommended.

An Inspiring Story to Awaken the Heart by D.D. Marx is the first book from The Beyond Series. Olivia is a loving, free-spirited woman and, as she likes to describe herself, a friendship addict. Her journey is shared with loyal friends she met as a pre-teen when her family moved to Chicago. Life is fun until the day Olivia is caught off guard with terrible news: her best friend and “almost brother” Dan has died in a car accident. Olivia’s world shatters. Life goes on, full of ups and downs, but Olivia is never afraid to start over. She becomes professionally successful and even relocates a few times. Nonetheless, she feels a void in her personal life that cries out to be filled. Always seeking inspirational advice from Dan, Olivia decides to take a step further in her career and move on with a project dear to her heart, one that would positively impact millions of people. Things do not end up the way she foresees. Deceived, Olivia seeks shelter with her cousin Garret. As she is trying to process things and is searching for meaning, her life takes another turn. Olivia cannot imagine that the answers she longed for are closer than she expected.

Beyond Believing: An Inspiring Story to Awaken the Heart by D.D. Marx is a delightful story of friendship, love and resilience. As the first book of the trilogy, it left me wanting to read more. Admittedly, the plot development got me hooked; the witty dialogues, the parallel stories, and the situational descriptions provided momentum and set the tone for the surprises. The characters were fun and full of flair. I loved the story of their friendships and how the characters stuck to each other even when they were apart. Also, the twists and turns of the main characters’ lives they were apart. Also, the twists and turns of the main characters’ lives showed a great lesson on resilience and belief. This book demonstrates that, even if faced with challenges in life, we can always hope for a better tomorrow. I recommend this book for those searching for meaning and looking for a fresh start.

Beyond Believing by D.D. Marx is a prime example of the saying, “There’s no such thing as coincidence.” Olivia struggled with many challenges in her young life, well into adulthood. Her close and trusted friend, Dan, always helped her move on in life, and she always overcame each challenge. He kept her on track. In Dan, she found a special friendship. He was her confidante. Her knight-in-shining-armour. So when he dies, she is immediately adrift in an ocean of despair and loneliness. Much like a ship without a rudder, she wanders through life, trying to find her destiny.

When she accepts a fantastic new work opportunity away from home, she quickly discovers that trusting her gut feeling requires her absolute attention. Nothing and no one, it appears, is what they seem. With advice from close friends, and the kinship of her favorite cousin, Garrett, Olivia finds herself thrust into a situation that she would, at one time, have avoided at all costs, never wanting to attract attention to herself. Her decision to expose corruption and bad business practices puts her slapbang into the public limelight, and she soon realizes her career is in jeopardy.

I love a good story and always attempt to anticipate the end; reading between the lines, I did not like what I 'saw,' and it is easy to relate to her inner turmoil. The characters become very real, very quickly, and as I read each chapter I wanted to put things right for her. I was experiencing read each chapter I wanted to put things right for her. I was experiencing all the ups and downs of Olivia’s life. The conclusion makes for a resounding sign of relief. An excellent read.

An Inspiring Story to Awaken the Heart by D.D. Marx follows the life of two people, Olivia Henry and Finn McDaniels. Both characters face the loss of a loved one. Olivia loses her best friend Dan, and Finn loses his wife. Unbeknownst to them, these losses are connected and put them on the path to each other.

At first I thought that Beyond Believing was going to be a book about finding love. It is actually a book about friendship and love. Marx’s characters are very likeable. The friends that Olivia has are truly amazing. They stick together and are always there for each other through the years. I wish I had just one friend like that. The death of Olivia's best friend Dan was heartbreaking, but knowing he still gave her signs, like playing Small Town on the radio, was refreshing. It made me wish that I would receive signs from my lost loved ones. I liked that Marx’s characters have very different personalities. Olivia has a sense of humor that shines through even the darkest moments in the book. Finn is more serious but has a heart of gold. It was almost as if someone else was writing Finn’s character because his personality was so different. The way that Finn and Olivia finally meet is hilarious. I was glad that this was not the type of story where they are constantly missing each other. The way they met was natural, almost like it is in life.

Marx says that Beyond Believing is a “love letter to friendship”, and that is exactly what it is. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read exactly what it is. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read romance and anyone who has ever lost a loved one. I will now begin looking for any signs from my lost loved ones to know that they are still here with me. Personally, I am coming back as a butterfly.

Marx, having graduated with a degree in Communication from the University of Dayton, as well as participating in the Second City program in Chicago, makes a sparkling debut with a contemporary romance that falls into that very popular category of chick lit - a respected category that usually spells fast sales for those who wish an engrossing read that deals with major issues of interpersonal relationships and resolve them in a manner that makes the reader restore faith in contemporary interconnectedness. Of note, she bases her story on the real-life tragedy of one of her best friends: all she ever wanted was the power to visit with him one last time. She dove into a world imagining that he really never left. This is the inspiration that catapulted her into her debut project titled, The Beyond Series, of which BEYOND BELIEVING is the first volume of this trilogy.In the tone of being a hopeless romantic D.D. Marx regards this book as her "love letter to friendship," written in memory of her best friend, Dan - whose name coincidentally (!) is an important feature of this book. There is a very fine graphic on the cover - a locket, with a missing element, that reads `He who holds the key can unlock my heart'. Some stories about love and loss and recovery can become maudlin in the hands of authors less innately optimistic than D.D. Marx, and the manner in which she writes is so conversationally that it feels as if you are the only person with whom she is sharing this story allows her that needed element of humor that keeps the ship afloat. By Carrie I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read this book a few months ago, as an early release copy. I. LOVED. IT. Olivia Henry is an extremely interesting, witty, and engaging character. She tells her story like she's sitting across the table from you over coffee. I was completely hooked on the complete cast of characters, and of course, the developing story between Olivia and Finn. By the end of the book, I was so in love with how their stories intertwined...I was sad to see the book ending. I'm so glad this is only part one of a trilogy. I really look forward to following their story through.My book club read this book and it was extremely well-received! This book is great for a fun, FUNNY, uplifting story. Spring is here, and summer is coming. This would be a great read for the beach or poolside! Definitely enjoyable for a book club summer read! Anxious for more from D.D. Marx!!

Beyond Believing is such a sweet journey. I cared about these characters as if they were my own friends and family.I found myself rooting for each of them. I think when you lose someone you love, especially due to a tragedy and at such a young age, you feel your life is suspended. Obviously, it takes time and healing to 'check back in' to life. Unfortunately for some, this never happens. Luckily for our main characters, Olivia and Finn, they find their way back to life and living. If you want a story that will make your heart smile, this is it! D.D. has me hooked! Can't wait to see what's ahead.

About the Author Jordan Grafman, PhD, is director of Brain Injury Research at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Before joining RIC, Dr. Grafman was director of the Traumatic Brain Injury Research at Kessler Foundation. His investigation of brain function and behavior contributes to advances in medicine, rehabilitation, and psychology, and informs ethics, law, philosophy, and health policy. His study of the human prefrontal cortex and cognitive neuroplasticity incorporates neuroimaging and genetics, an approach that is expanding our knowledge of the impact of traumatic brain injury, as well as other diseases that impair brain function, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and degenerative diseases. Dr. Grafman aims to translate his research into more effective, targeted rehabilitation to achieve the best outcomes for people with cognitive disabilities. Dr. Grafman’s background includes 30 years of experience in brain injury research. He has studied brain function in dementia, depression, and degenerative neurological diseases, as well as TBI. He has authored more than 300 research publications, co-editor of the journal Cortex, and provides peer review for numerous specialty journals. About the Author K L Shandwick Lives on the outskirts of London. UK. I started writing after a challenge by a friend when I commented on a book I read. I just felt there wasn't enough plot to keep the intrigue going. The result of this was The Everything Trilogy. The books themselves didn't take a long time to write, I am more of a story teller than a literary or romantic prose writer. My background has been mainly in the health and social care sector in the UK for most of my adult life, and I am still currently a freelance or self- employed professional in this field. So my books tend to focus on the relationships of the main characters. Writing is a form of escapism for me and I am just as excited to find out where my characters take me as I am when I read another author's work.

It seems like it is always the female point of view . So this was a refreshing change of pace. The story revolves around Alfie and Lily. Alfie has it all the looks and the talent to take him places in the music world. He is working hard with his band, going to music school, Every woman wants to be with him and every man wants to become him. He is a very strong willed guy, who has a single mind on music. Enters Lily girl from England, who has come to Miami to study music. Lily is driven with music just like Alfie. There is one thing in her life that she has wanted to do is play and play well When they come together there are sparks but there are also problems in both their pasts and when they collide there are far reaching effects for everyone . the author does a very good job on writing from Alfie's point of view. She takes us through all the emotions and questions that one man has. She also doesn't set the whole story around the two mani characters. There author brings in various relationships around the characters . Which to me adds to the whole concept . I have read books where it is just based on the main couple. The other characters are just window dressing , Not having much to do. But not with KL 's books all the characters are a part of the story . The relationships make the book seem more real and adds to the sexual chemistry to the couple also. Love the way that music is an big part of this book, there are also some very hot smoking scenes and I loved them all. This is book is a blend of love, romance, music and self exploration. That will take you on a very emotional rollercoaster ride. It is full of angst, raw emotion and love . Which will make you laugh, cry and actually scream at your kindle. You will fall in love with both Lily and Alfie . You want to hug Alfie well ok you will want to throw Alfie on the bed and have your way with him but ok I digress. This is a long book but once you get started you wont want to put it down . So get comfy, grab you favorite spot and your favorite snack. Then settle down to read. Trust me you will have a book hang over after you have finished the book. Great read anytime

You walked past me, your cute little face smiling up at the sun, and I knew there and then, I had to have you. I've never had a reaction to anyone like the one I had when I first laid my eyes on you." ~ Alfie BlackYou heard Lily's story in K.L. Shandwick's The Everything Series. Now it's Alfie's turn to give you his side of their all consuming relationship.First of all, I completely fell in love with Alfie Black in The Every Series and now in Love With Every Beat, I love him even more. Of course his physical description is the first thing you're attracted to. Dark hair, fit body, amazing smile, not to mention the man oozes a raw sexuality that had me panting during many of his and Lily's intimate encounters. Lily and Alfie's sexual chemistry sizzles from word one and it just gets hotter and hotter.Before I say anything else, I will tell you if you haven't read Lily's side of the story in The Everything Series, one click it now. Not that Love With Every Beat can't be read as a stand alone, but it's so much better to know the whole story.As much as I love Alfie, I have to say, I thought he was a terrible man-whore and some of his actions towards Lily were insanely inconsiderate. After reading Love With Every Beat, I was pretty wrong about Alfie. He's so much more than a stunning, sensual rock god.So, the story line is the same. Alfie sees Lily her first day at university and finds himself completely drawn to her. Now Alfie is no saint and has been around the block a time or two, but meeting Lily throws his whole world into a frenzy. He finally meets this amazing girl that he wants mind, body and soul, but he keeps telling himself he can't have those things.Alfie, has suffered some major losses in his life. He lost his mom and dad one right after the other. His mom to cancer and his dad drank himself to death after his mom passed away. He also lost his best friend Gary. Gary joined the army right out of high school and got killed instantly when he drove over a land mine. And here's where Alfie's life gets hinky. He promised Gary he would take care of his girl while he was away. Well now that Gary's gone permanently, Alfie takes that promise to heart and continues to take care of Gary's girl Kara and Kara's daughter Poppy. Kara comes with her own set of baggage (read the book).Kara is not the only obstacle in Alfie's life. His band, Crakt Soundzz is just about to blow up and Alfie feels like he can't have anything holding him back. It all usually comes back to taking care of Kara.When Alfie meets Lily, that whole idea of "I can't love anyone", or "I'm not a hearts and flowers guy" goes right out the window. Anyone with eyes can tell Alfie loves Lily from the second he sees her. He pursues her throughout the story even though on several occasions Lily begs Alfie to leave her alone. He just can't do that. But he also can't admit his feelings to Lily or even to himself. He keeps denying the way he feels because of the obligations he has.His behavior wrecks Lily and every time she feels like she's moving on, Alfie pops back into the picture. For someone who says they can't love, the emotions that go on in Alfie's brain through the entire story scream that he's madly in love with Lily. He becomes obsessed with Lily and although many of his actions come close to destroying them, I promise you'll be yelling at them to JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY!When Alfie finally lets himself admit his love for Lily, I nearly lost it. Here's this beautiful man trying desperately to fight off feelings for the woman he clearly loves, finally admitting his feelings to himself and to Lily. When Alfie finally told Lily he loved her, I melted into a puddle.Unfortunately for Lily and Alfie love may not be strong enough to keep them together. As both of their careers take off you wonder if they have what it takes to be a couple. Yes they love each other desperately. Yes their sex is off the chain hot ( I must say Ms. Shandwick, you can write some majorly steamy love scenes). But, can they make it? Well guess what? You have to read Love With Every Beat to find out. Unless you've read The Everything Series and know the ending.Is Alfie's story worth the read? Absolutely. Alfie's character is just so much more than you got to see in Lily's side of the story. Do I think it made Alfie less edgy? Nope. I fell even more in love with him knowing what was going on in his head.Wow....I had a lot to say (deep breath). Anyway, I'm giving Love With Every Beat a five lip smack review. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Lyrical Hot By Channelling Colee Alfie (the lead) is a sexually competent alpha male. The author, K.L. Segwick, wrote Alfie as the perfect guy to have fun with. Just thinking about how she described his mouth and all the wonderful things he was described as doing in this book; well it makes my lady part weep, it drips with joy.He is delectable and his perseverance and stamina is ferocious. As you can tell, I really liked Alfie. His POV is so sad, sweet, difficult, and causes the reader to be patient, such as the characters had to learn to be.The book is a long installment and to dissect into the important moments in Alfie’s life. It also shows his longevity of love for Lily. Alfie defines the saying love is a battlefield and not cookie cutter perfect. Segwick writes Alfie and Lily as humans, who show their ego, hurt, triumph and confidence.The story (in the beginning) really depicts Alfie as not a great guy, a hot guy, but he was a dick. A big one, per the book.While I was reading, I thought, why would I read a book about a jerky guy, why does he have to be an a$$hole? He is human and in the book world, we are so use to the creation of the Hero, that we forget that not all men are like Christen Grey. They make stupid decisions and when they do, they are not always easily forgiven.There were so many sections in the book; I was screaming, “Go to her!” “Make better decisions!” “Keep that massive dick in your pants.” “Tell her how you feel.” “OMG, he really worked her well. Wow.”I was lost in the beginning of this book because I never read Lily’s two books. Also, this book is long and it took me awhile to get into it. But once I began to know the characters, I was able to understand the book a little bit better. I do not believe this is a stand-alone book. Age-appropriate discussion for children of a difficult topic with a loving, compelling story By Phreaddy There's no upside or sugar coating when it comes to dementia. It's terrible for everyone involved -- the person who becomes ill, the family and friends. For children, it can be especially difficult to understand what's happening to a loved one. I'd recommend this book for any child who has a loved one going suffering from this disease. I like the way it simply and kindly explains what is happening in terms children can understand without any clinical or medical discussion. In fact, the word "dementia" isn't even in the actual text. Even if your family isn't dealing with dementia, I think this book is of value for children. It teaches compassion and kindness -- values I hope my children learn and practice.

The author of "When My Grammy Forgets, I Remember" does just that as she takes Grammy and her granddaughter thru the different emotions and relationships as Grammy progresses thru the different phases of dementia. About the Author Luisa Stigol’s life and memoir reflect her passions: for study, her efforts to see a world without prejudice or violence, and her sincere caring for others She has additionally embraced two avatars: that of a woman in medicine and that of a mother to three children. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1930, graduating as a Doctor in Medicine in 1954 from the School of Medicine, National University of Buenos Aires. Stigol was appointed to the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas.) Years later, her doctoral thesis about breathing in chronic poliomyelitis patients, brought her to relocate her family to Boston where, in 1962, she became a Fellow at the Department of Physiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. Three years later, Stigol returned as Research Associate at the same Department. In 1968, she became Fellow in Pathology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and in 1973, she returned to the practice of pediatrics at Dedham Medical Associates, where she worked for thirty-four years. Stigol was awarded the von L. Meyer Award at the Department of Pathology of Children’s Hospital. Additionally, she was active in the prevention of violence, and among other such activities, appointed as Principal Investigator of the Violence Prevention Project of the Harvard Community Health Foundation in 1991. In 1993, she became a member of the new Committee on Domestic Violence of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS). In 1994, Stigol was given the “Women in Medicine Award” of the MMS. Today, Stigol resides in Boston where she continues volunteer work as a docent for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Review After hearing Yvonne's story I commenced taking the product having been told there was nothing the medical profession could do for me. I had a tumor on my lung, one on my top right hand lung and advised the cancer was in my liver and bones. I confounded the doctors after a CT scan within three months of commencing the course of tablets. The tumor in my lung had reduced by 52%. The tumor on my rib had disappeared and the doctor told me they must have been mistaken as they could find no trace of cancer in my liver and bones.I am English, 80 years of age. The Blitz in London during WWII didn't get me and I was determined cancer wouldn't as well. Adrienne New ZealandYvonne is my brother's partner and when she came to Germany recently I could not believe how well and fit she was, knowing she had breast cancer but had beaten it.I had a tumor on my lung and had half the lung removed. Then I commenced a course of chemotherapy. This left me tired, weak and breathless. My mind was foggy and I was depressed. The chemo ate up my red blood cells so I needed two blood transfusions. I felt like I was 100 years old, instead of 60. I starting taking the tablets four weeks ago. My mind is clearer, I feel strong again and have no more trouble with breathlessness. About the Author At 74 years of age I have the life of a 30 year old and enjoy every moment of it.I write Mystery/thriller novels and publish them on Amazon under my pen name Yvonne Crowe. By Sterling Gate Books This book, written in the First Person in easy-to-read, diarized format, could only have been penned by a cancer survivor. It describes, in mesmerizing fashion, the author’s dramatic and ultimately triumphant journey from the moment she realized she’d contracted E+ breast cancer – or, as she puts it, from the moment she realised “an alien from inner space has invaded my life in the form of a four centimeter tumor”.What follows is a truly inspirational read that will most surely inspire and motivate cancer sufferers the world over.It should be compulsory reading for breast cancer patients in particular for it shows there are very real alternatives to surgery and chemo. Author Yvonne Ellen is living proof of that.Five stars!

It outlines a successful, inexpensive, natural therapy for the treatment of cancer.The author wrote a diary of what she experienced and how she won the battle over a 4.5 centimeter tumor in 15 months.On the whole it appears to have been a positive experience. She examined the underlying causes of cancer and refused to give into fear…. Or sympathy.  This is a book that was written to support other cancer sufferers if they choose to take the road she did.Although the author suffered from breast cancer which she ultimately conquered after 15 months, the product she used has been successful with many other forms of cancer.The author clearly wants the book to be used as a reference for people to take from it what suits them and mix it up, there is never a one size fits all solution so you need to try and experiment with what works for you and the author provides all the places you can get alternative products.I hope you all get what you need from this book and that you all manage to conquer your own battle with the big "C".Jo Dean

Inspiration journey of a cancer survivor By Daniel I am a big fan of Yvonne Crowe’s mystery novels so when someone told me that she had battled breast cancer and survived I wanted to find out more. Unlike her other novels, this is a memoir—an intimate journey of her courageous fight to conquer breast cancer. In her memoir, Yvonne bravely described her personal journey.From the very moment she discovered the tumor to her unwillingness to accept her fate, her remarkable story will captivate you. Yvonne went on to challenge conventional wisdoms as she openly shares her views on holistic medicine. Although her methods seemed questionable she clearly demonstrated that her methods worked…she is the living proof.If you are battling cancer, you should read this book. To some, her unorthodox procedures seemed controversial but towards the end, you will come away knowing that there are other alternatives to battling cancer. The cure for some might just be in those remarkable capsules. As for myself, although I don’t have cancer, I can’t help but have an earnest respect for all cancer survivors and especially Yvonne.

As the relationship progresses, a darker side of Dorian’s personality surfaces which threatens to destroy their bond. Can their relationship survive the unbalance?Unbalanced, by Laura T. Johnson, has a good plot concept and interesting supporting characters; however, the book left me with many unanswered questions. Why did Dorian act the way he did? Why did Cat, a seemingly intelligent and well-balanced woman with good instincts, continually reconcile with Dorian? Why did no one in Dorian’s family suspect anything about his dark side? Further, the book’s conclusion did not provide a satisfactory resolution, unless there is to be a sequel. What began as a good premise was negated by a subpar final product riddled with numerous grammatical errors, use of incorrect tense, changing point-of-view, and lack of fact checking. JohnsonMy Thoughts....This was a very interesting as well as a compelling story about Catherine Palmer and Dorian Wallace.I was able to hang on every word as I read through this subplot about this story. From the read I found myself thinking this happens a lot to us...sisters...wanted love and what had already happened in Catherine's life with her parents and grandmother gone from her...she wanted someone to love her unconditionally. It looks like Catherine as it all but.... Then Catherine meets the the 'campus heartthrob, Dorian Wallace.' Will sparks fly for these two? Well, it seems so but was it really? What was up with Dorian's 'domineering behavior? Couldn't Catherine as well as others see through it all? What will happen when Catherine faces the abuse that is right in front of her as she faces this 'Unbalanced' love? This is where I say you will have to pick up this novel to see how this author presents it to the reader. This author really digs deep in telling the reader this story because she has been faced with so much of it through being abused herself.There can only be one message here and what I learned from this good read was that when one shows 'jealousy, possessiveness, controlling and a violent side' this can only lead one to a road of disaster. There are only two roads one can take ....one way in or one way out

I can either put myself in the shoes of some of the characters or I know some people who have been in the shoes of a lot of the characters in the book. There are a lot of people who do not have family due to many different reasons and they will gravitate towards someone who they feel cares about them or shows them some affection and attention. Do people see the problems with someone they are dealing with? Yes... A lot of times it is overlooked because of the love and affection. Some times people just do not want to be alone and they will deal with things just to make sure they are not. I enjoyed how all characters were explained in the book as well. This book will take you through a lot of emotions... It will have you wondering what is or is not worth it. When a person is fed up, they will know and I cannot wait for part 2 because there were many questions that were left unanswered that may be explained in part 2. I wish there was more of a backstory into why some of the characters acted the way that they did.
