Review From a well-known author of multiple publications on cardiovascular disease and research, this book provides comprehensive insights into known etiologies, pathophysiology, clinical presentations, diagnostic procedures, and management strategies for heart failure aimed at clinicians managing these patients and specialists investigating the scientific basis of the various stages of heart failure. The book fulfills its purpose of providing a deeper understanding of the various stages of heart failure. Its particular strength is the broad, in-depth discussion of clinically relevant topics. Readers will appreciate the illustrative pictures, diagrams, graphs, and tables, which will help in digesting the material. This is clearly designed for those who routinely care for heart failure patients and advanced level trainees, including cardiologists, researchers, internists, nurse practitioners, and housestaff. After clearly elaborating the epidemiology, morbidity, and mortality associated with heart failure, the book discusses various risk factors that lead to the development of this disease. Then, it provides novel insights into various factors and mechanisms that contribute to the propagation of various stages of heart failure and delivers an overview of available assessment tools and management regimens for each stage of heart failure. Finally, it briefly illustrates how to put the evidence to use in therapeutics for heart failure. It provides the most comprehensive coverage to date of most aspects of the different stages of heart failure, and the interdisciplinary approach makes it valuable to physicians caring for patients with heart failure. This book underscores the medical importance of recognizing the various stages of heart failure, their economic costs, and the interplay of the various mechanisms/factors involved. The diagnosis and treatment of heart failure for the practicng physician By David Marsh, MD Dr Jaski's, "The 4 Stages of Heart Failure," is a handbook PLUS. It covers the wide range of heart failure with the most up-to-date information and data, including summaries of randomized clinical trials. The illustrations and tables depicted are clear and concise. They are truly helpful in understanding the concepts. All aspects of systolic and diastolic heart failure are covered--from diagnosis to treatment. I especially liked the section in the Appendix summarizing recent, relevant, evidence-based pharmacologic studies. I would highly recommend this book for the practicing internist or cardiologist. The size of the book makes it easily accessible from the white coat pocket of the house officer.

Best explanations to minimize the chance of heart problems and complications By BJM You will find reading this book easy to understand if you are an informed lay person like me. I found valuable information that a caregiver or patient will find critical to health. The first stage helped me understand what risk factors I needed to know to prevent progression to more advance stages. Heart failure is the number one killer in the U.S., more than cancers and other diseases. Well-written and worth having on your bookshelf BEFORE you need it.

As a working cardiac nurse practitioner and college instructor, I have read a lot of medical books. This book is written for any medical professional (nurses, doctors, etc) who want to advance their knowledge in ALL areas of Heart Failure. This book goes way beyond the old New York Heart Association classification (which stages only function); this book gives a comprehensive review of the 4 stages of HF. I like books written to educate me without taking 500+ pages to get the message across. This book concisely, yet completely covers HF from stage A (the asymptomatic patient during the onset of heart failure) to stage D the terminal stage where the patient is dying and either needs heroic interventions or palliative/hospice care. It outlines the epidemiology, risk factors, the pathophysiology of each disease process, how to evaluate each HF stage with labs, biomarkers, diagnostic tests, physical exam findings, interventions advised and more. I really like the Fast facts at the beginning of the chapters, very useful tables and charts, pictures to aide learning and the recognition of doctors who dedicated their life's work to advancing the field of heart failure care.Lastly, I love that when you buy the paperback version you get a "free" digital version for your computer or ipad. I did not know that until I opened the wrapper and read the inside cover. All in all, this was a great book, great value that will enhance my practice and patient care.
