Reading a much-loved story from your childhood.It is in those simple familiar things that writer Monica Sharman finds beauty, and more than beauty. In the beauty of the ordinary she finds metaphors for Bible reading, and has collected those metaphors in “Behold the Beauty: An Invitation to Bible Reading.”Her invitation is as simple as the beauty she writes about: “Come with me. Come to that which our ears can hear, our eyes can see, and our hands touch. Extend your hands. Take hold of the Bible, the very words of God Himself.”This is not a call to excitement and thrills. Extend your hands. Take hold of the Bible, the very words of God himself."This is the invitation from Monica Sharman in the preface of her new book Behold the Beauty: An Invitation to Bible Reading. Monica shares her long story of reading the Bible first one way and then another. She offers suggestions for how to read better, but they are couched within her own attempts at coming to the Bible as a student and a friend of Jesus. Her emphasis, though, is on the reading. How these very words changed her life over time through reading, and how that same invitation is extended to you.I was fortunate enough to work with Monica on this project as an editor, but I recommend the book to you as a reader of the BIble myself.

It's not an instruction manual, but a conversation with a friend who delights in God's Word. With captivating stories from her own life, Monica shares how she learned to read and study scripture and the tools she continues to use to more deeply know and understand God and His character through reading His Word. "Behold the Beauty" is a wonderful guide for personal use, as well as an excellent resource for discipleship. (I was provided with a free digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion and review.)
