Devotions provides real-life teaching based on key principles from the Bible. It will speak to young girls at a level they can relate to, using relevant terms and fun illustrations. Each devotion features an opening verse, devotion, self-evaluation quiz, ideas for application, memory verses, and original illustrations. Topics include caring for others, humility, cheating, worrying, and much more!Girls will be encouraged to grow spiritually as they delve into these devotions each day.”Series: Non-fiction/Devotional.Spiritual Content- Each devotional has six Scriptures quoted; All about God & Jesus; ‘H’s are not capital when referring to God; A handful of prayers; Mentions of Church.Negative Content- Minor cussing including: a ‘blah, blah, blah’, a ‘dumb’, and a ‘stupid’; A few mentions of parents divorcing or splitting up; A mention of a family member selling drugs.Sexual Content- A mention of not having a boyfriend; A mention of a mean saying a girl looks fat in her new jeans;*Note: A few illustrations of girls wearing short-shorts, miniskirts & tanks.{Non-fiction/Devotional}243 pages~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*Pre Teens- Three Stars (and a half)New Teens- Four Stars (and a half)Early High School Teens- Four StarsOlder High School Teens- Three StarsMy personal Rating- Three Stars (and a half)I’ll admit that I was a bit disappointed that the ‘H’s weren’t capital when referring to God, but even with that, this was a great devotional. Written in only pink text & colors, “More for Girls Only! Devotionals” had great lessons. Each Devo had a main Scripture, then a story/lesson with an illustration, a check-up time (a simple quiz on how you’re doing on the topic), how you can improve and lastly, five more Scriptures and three famous quotes. (Like, quotes by Corrie Ten Boom, past presidents, Helen Keller, and C.S. Lewis to name a few. There was also a couple of quotes by Gandhi, which I thought was strange.) In the 60 Devotionals in this book, only a handful seemed geared specifically towards public school girls. The illustrations are really cute as well. Philippians 4:8 is also quoted, so that just made this Devo even better. ;)*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author.*I received this book for free from the Publisher (Tyndale House Publisher) for this review.

Devotions by Carolyn Larsen and illustrated Colonel Moutrade is geared to the pre-teen crowd of 8-12 year olds. My daughter is 7 1/2 currently so she's bordering being age ready for this devotional book and the many topics it covers. As a mom, I wanted to make sure the content would be relate-able and something she could easily understand. Aside from comprehension and relatibility I also wanted her to be excited and eager to push through the devotional without my prompting. This book has hit the mark in every area I was seeking. There are sixty stories within that each focus on different dilemmas, feelings, and situations a young girl may be faced with. The topics cover things like caring for others, honesty, self-worth, purity, forgiveness, prayer, friendship, and much more. Each story is tied back to scripture, motivational sayings, quotes, and a self evaluation quiz to see how you are doing in that specific area. The book is an encouragement and a fabulous jumping point that can help during some of the toughest times in a girls life. Instilling the truth of God in their life daily with a devotional prompt will put them on the right path to weather even the toughest of storms. The illustrations in this book are many showcasing girls of every race, fashion style preference, and so on. The illustrations are eye catching and a great reminder that God loves all of us despite every single difference and interest.I like this book encourages girls to pray, memorize scripture, and offers very practical advice in how to handle many different types of situations. The devotions aren't dated so one can pick up this book at anytime and start reading through. I totally recommend it!“I received this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.”

This devotional would be a wonderful tool in their spiritual development By sc2424 Do you have a daughter or granddaughter who is in the pre-teen years? This devotional would be a wonderful tool in their spiritual development! This devotion book, More For Girls Only! Devotions written by Carolyn Larsen is spot on for this age group. It is printed with pink ink (!) and is more than just a story for the day illustrating good behavior. It is very Scripturally oriented. The day's reading begins with a Bible verse (or verses) and then a story illustrating either a desirable characteristic or an undesirable one. The story ends with some thought-provoking (and discussion-starting!) questions about the topic.Following the story is "checkup time" which is a 1-5 scale (1=never, 5=always to answer how you feel you fall on certain questions (such asI pray for missionariesI know that others are affected by my choicesI feel God's love throughout the dayI know I need God's forgiveness every dayI'm good at waiting until I'm certain God has given me guidanceand so forth.Following this is a "key" which gives you an interpretation, such as:mostly 1's: we get it, you like to do things your way. But God's way is actually better for you. Ask him to help you believe that.mostly 2's: Could it be that you don't trust God to guide you? . . .mostly 3's:etc. You get the pictures. Like those "quizzes" in magazines. The next section is "Things to do" and gives several action items to check off and try to do that will increase your growth in that characteristic.Following that is "Things to remember" which is a listing of verses that relate to the topic which can be used for Bible memory as well as some quotes by Christian writers on the topics.I really like the format as well as the topics of this devotional. I have already used book one with my 11 year old daughter and it has opened up wonderful times of discussion and prayer for us. It doesn't take a huge amount of time, but I believe it is a great help in her life.I definitely recommend this book. The age group it's written for is 8-12; it could probably be used with older girls, but I'd say it's best within this age range.I received a copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review. I was not required to write a positive review.
